In the current issue (May), LOU REED faces a barrage of questions. There is also a great colour photograph of David and Lou, (which I've never seen before). One question to Lou from Christopher Ashton in Manchester asked...

"You once described Bowie as a "very nasty person". Was it satisfying to give him a slap when he declined the offer to do your album in 1979?"

"I NEVER described David as a nasty person. I think David's great. Friends have tiffs and you stay friends. If you weren't in public, no-one would know or care. It's odd they'll ask something like that when I did David's 50th birthday party (laughs). I mean. Jeez."

Also in this issue features 'When Rock Stars Go Crazy!', which nominates the top 100 greatest acts of rock 'n' roll folly. David gets his own "special" area rather than just one of the placements.

EARL LINKS BACK UP WITH THE DUKE
28th March 2000

After an absence of some 17 years, EARL SLICK has re-joined DAVID BOWIE'S band. He flew in New York on Thursday to start rehearsals the following day, for the forthcoming New York City gigs and the Glastonbury Festival appearances in June.

The hint was given out a few weeks back when David mentioned in the BowieNet chatroom that he'd been on the phone to Earl.

The last time Earl was involved with David in a working capacity was on 'The Serious Moonlight Tour' back in 1983, when he stepped in at the last moment for Stevie Ray Vaughn. Amazingly, Earl had literally four days to learn the complete set. He sat in a Brussels hotel room with Carlos Alomar and "got things done". True professional or what?

Check out the official Earl Slick web site.

MR ZIGGY PLAYS ROME - ANOTHER GIG LINED UP
26th March 2000

Another fine concert last night in Rome, by the Italian band Mr. Ziggy And The Glass Spiders. From 'Moonage Daydream' to 'Hallo Spaceboy', with 'Cracked Actor' (new addition) and a jazzy 'Breaking Glass' that clearly shows that they are not just a "tribute band".

Next date in Rome: 21th April, Radio Londra Cafe.

DAVID BOWIE AND HANSON DO THE NET BOP
24th March 2000

David and the Hanson Brothers DAVID BOWIE may not be touring this year, but that doesn't mean he's sitting around knitting booties as he and IMAN wait for the stork. The Thin White Web Entrepreneur has just added teen sensations Hanson to his list of web clients, which includes the New York Yankees (YankeesXtreme.com) and Baltimore Orioles (OriolesWorld.com). Bowie's UltraStar Internet Services has been working on a site to bring a new and improved Hanson to the unsuspecting world in anticipation of their new album, 'This Time Around', due May 9. At midnight on March 29, Hanson.net will go live, giving fans a peak at the new album which features guest appearances from Beck, John Popper and Jonny Lang...

From RollingStone.com.

E-BRIEFING: The news behind the Net.

Teen group Hanson, which like every other band already has a Web site, is signing on with David Bowie's Internet company to launch its very own Internet service provider.

Next week, Hanson is kicking off - what else - Hanson Net. For $14.95 a month, fans will be able to get their fill, including pictures, music and virtual backstage passes. Isaac Hanson, at 19 the elder statesman of the pop group, says the move is a natural for the three-brother band. The net "is a great thing to have, to supply information and media to your fans, to be able to activate that fan base, and to give them something extra."

Many of Hanson's fans already access the Web site, he says. Using Hanson as a Net provider as well, they'll be able to enjoy Hanson-customized Web browsers, tour news, audio and video - and the band will be able to communicate with the entire membership at once via e-mail. "We're into the whole Internet service and everything about it. I think there are a lot of opportunities," Isaac says. "It's just a really cool tool."

Rock vet Bowie made news last year when he launched his branded service provider, BowieNet. His customized service includes all sorts of information for fans, including a diary and personal pictures. And for the fan who wants to put his money where his mouse is, it now includes an online bank.

IMAN APPEARS IN THE APRIL EDITION OF VOGUE
22nd March 2000

IMAN JONES features in the US April issue of VOGUE magazine. Besides a rather gorgeous naked photograph of Iman, she gives an insight on how David and herself are handling the prospect of their little bundle of joy due this August. Iman confides that after first hearing the news David was floating around with such a blissed-out smile. She told him "People are going to think you are back on drugs!" Iman also goes on to say that she doesn't want to know the sex of the baby but David does. He says he's "too old to wait any longer."

(Ed's educated guess... Baby girl... 8lb 8oz... 15th August).

STARDUST MEMOIRS: DAVID BOWIE IN THE NY TIMES
19th March 2000

In today's issue of THE NEW YORK TIMES magazine DAVID BOWIE grants himself a rare interview, and deconstructs three decades of rock-icon style - from Carnaby Street rags to Air Force uniforms, with some interesting intergalactic jumpsuits along the way.

You can read the "self" interview online by clicking here - just simply fill in the form and register. Some rather fetching new images included in a fourteen photographic slide show.

THE SUNDAY TIMES: RICH LIST 2000
19th March 2000

Today's issue of THE SUNDAY TIMES contains their annual survey of Britain's one thousand wealthiest people. Their 'Rich List 2000' colour supplement features DAVID BOWIE in 292nd equal place with fortune of £100 million.

DAVID BOWIE: £100m 292nd=

The internet has found a fan in Bowie, 53, who last year became the first rock star to release an album - called 'hours...' - on the net before it hit the high street. But with his model wife Iman expecting a baby, perhaps Major Tom will find less time to indulge his love of cyberspace. Bowie is returning to live in Britain after 25 years in New York and Bermuda. He scored his first hit in 1969 and has never looked back. But 'hours...' was not a big success, and Bowie does not add to his income with vast American tours. He has plenty, though, from the 1997 "Bowie Bonds", which gave him £34m against future royalties. With various net ventures, such as the Bowiebanc.com bank, he is worth £100m. (1999: £100m, 227th=).

DAVID AND BRIAN ALONE IN A BLACK BOX
12th March 2000

Alone To those weary of hearing about black boxes in the context of air disasters, the news that Harmonia Mundi will be distributing BLACK BOX records in the U.S. is welcome indeed.

Black Box is a small cutting-edge British label founded in 1997 that features classical, jazz, and adult contemporary music from a band of young, intriguing, and sometimes offbeat artists.

They include two CDs, 'Alone' and 'On Fire' by Simon Haram, principle saxophonist for the London Sinfonietta and the Michael Nyman band. The highly emotive Alone, in which the sax sings impressively, includes music by DAVID BOWIE, Brian Eno, Arvo Part and Michael Nyman.

DAILY MAIL: THE RICH REPORT 2000
12th March 2000

Today's edition of UK's THE MAIL ON SUNDAY has a full colour supplement magazine listing Britain's 300 top millionaires.

Inside, along with a rather splendid full colour photograph of our David from the Astoria gig in London, the report lists DAVID BOWIE in equal 233rd position, worth a reputed £120 million. It reads:

At 53 David Bowie, a rock legend of 30 years, is about to become a father once again. He is also enjoying a renaissance creatively and financially. After pulling off his ground-breaking Bowiebond deal in which he sold the rights to his back catalogue to Wall Street investors, netting himself £34m, he has emerged as a major player on the internet and late last year staged the first ever rock show on the new medium.

He now has his own Internet bank, BowieBanc.com, and his beautiful model wife Iman complains that he doesn't go to bed at night because he's too busy surfing the Internet.

BowieBanc formed a partnership with Internet bank USA BancShares.com, aiming for a slice of the increasingly lucrative on-line banking market with a full online service including mortgages, bill payment facilities and current accounts, complete with Bowie-branded cheque books and credit cards. He has also raised a further £5m by selling his home on Mustique.

This year he will headline Glastonbury as a new young audience discovers Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and the Thin White Duke - all personas he has adopted on his records.

From The Mail On Sunday.

BOWIE ON BOWIE ON FASHION
11th March 2000

Rock legend and style icon DAVID BOWIE, now 53, will interview the less... er... mature David Bowie, in next Sunday's New York Times (March 19). According to sources, Bowie will be featured on the cover of the paper's Fashions of the Times magazine insert. Inside, he'll sit down er... with himself for an in depth Q and A session that explores his celebrated, and influential sense of style, from the '60s through the year 2000 (we're not quite sure how they're doing this, but we gather the elder Bowie will pose the questions, while the younger Bowie will respond with archived quotes from interviews and TV appearances... but we could be wrong). Bowie also selected all the archival photos from the various stages of his career.

SCI-FI CHANNEL UK TV TO SHOW NEW HUNGER SERIES
10th March 2000

David as Julian Priest Starting tonight Friday, 10th March, 9.30 p.m. on the SCI-FI CHANNEL UK TV is THE HUNGER series as part of their Season Two Premieres. Staring DAVID BOWIE as the character 'Julian Priest' and directed by Tony Scott, this is a "must watch" and thoroughly recommended.

A half-hour series dealing with need, desire and the terrifying results of consuming forbidden fruit. This anthology mingles the forbidden and. It is hosted by rock and film legend David Bowie, who suggestively introduces each episode with demented insinuations and appears again at the end, revealing the fearsome truth. There are morals here, but the corruption acquired while experiencing the show ensures you'll never learn a thing... except more about your dark side.

EXCLUSIVE DAVID BOWIE IN A SPIN!
3rd March 2000

SPIN MAGAZINE has a exclusive interview with DAVID BOWIE who talks about his latest venture into the world of video games! (Ed. David in fine comedy form for this one).

A couple of extracts:

What drew you to Omikron?

Two big French guys and a hairy Irishman descended upon my place of work and dazzled me with the embryonics. My son, Joe (27), also took it apart for me and deemed it 'very cool'.

Do you play any games yourself? If so which?

I'm pretty good at Twister.

Your wife is hot.

So's your mother... difference is Iman's in Omikron: the Nomad Soul as a character, a kind of gun-for-hire, along with some other very French females, some of whom inhabit the Red-Light district.

HOLLY PALMER REVIEW - "A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME"
2nd March 2000

Make sure you take a listen to the latest single release by HOLLY PALMER entitled 'A Rose By Any Other Name' (PRO-CD-4212-R). The track is taken from her forthcoming album 'Tender Hooks' on Reprise Records and produced by HOWIE B has got this reviewer smitten.

Holly Palmer ..."This is not a threat"... damn right it ain't! What a beautiful track. On the very first play, Holly's sensuous voice fills your head with all sorts of mischievous thoughts. Her soft whisperings compliment the "tingly" backing groove and takes you from 'fore' to 'play'. If this track doesn't get you in the mood, then nothing will... "This is how it should be"... (PK).

'Tender Hooks' is scheduled for release May 16th on Reprise Records, catalogue number 4/2-47361.

Visit Holly Palmer's web site.
