La Llorona
by Nevada Kerr
The tired keener crawls
Under font and waterfall
Probing for her drowning daughters
Bending toward their calls
She forfeits Heaven's dower
Bewitched by tear and taunt
Her begrudged maternal cries
Vociferous and long
She swoons and reels deflowered
Screeching like a haunt
A fragrant mead turned sour
Rendered fetid by the swamp
A spectral ventriloquy
A requiem of tongues
From eerie dusk till dawn
She shrieks her river song
