Spectacle
by Nevada Kerr
Metamorphic beauty shakes
Breaking static forms
The vain mirage without camouflage
Wears a bloody crown of thorns
Symmetry too seemly stirs
Twin hag and harridan
A splendid elegance immures
Their crumbling skeletons
A hoodwinked cupid lurks
Behind love's glassy stare
The one-eyed phantom shoots his arrow
Into the loveless air
Sightless and unseen
Behind the theatre screen
Prodigy and guiser
Await the final scene
Inside each work of art
Lies firm hope's counterpart
The incoherent spectacle
Of the decomposing heart
