Smouldering
by Nevada Kerr
Sand in my eyes
I enter the dream
Morpheus watching
For the Opium Queen
In a lullaby coma
I swim the night stream
Leaden and breathless
Amidst Sibylline leaves
I touch the benumbed
Happy Valley drones
With a feverish kiss
I warm their cold bones
Wide awake
On a bed of thorns
Biding my time
I draw in my horns
Thunderbolts fly
Where sleeping dogs lie
They carry no thoughts
Back to the mind
Absolution
In the waters of Lethe
The sight of a future
I'll never forget
Close my eyes
Go out of my head
Waiting is a torment
Care is a dread
