ADORATION
by Nevada Kerr
Disconsolate and overcome
By sacrifice and ceded boon
A bride covets her desire-strewn
Wholly marred and fated chum
Mated, martyred, married, mum
The myth she mutters by the moon
Deathless love survives the swoon
As each tending groom turns grisly glum
They force their way with staid aplomb
Through honeyed veil and plaintive tune
Impromptu knights spurred too soon
Seize the ripe and ready plum
Desire deadened, dazed, or dumb
Halts and hobbles from night to noon
Incanting hymns that wizards croon
But lovelorn suitors never hum
