THE MISSING LINK
by Nevada Kerr
Of evolution on a grander scale
You dream before you die
Two heads for every tail
Stem cells side by side
Celibates at the ovum sale
Filled with fertile pride
Despite confinement and travail
Bear fruit and multiply
Tremble when the primates wail
And fellow creatures vie
With limber limbs that never fail
To sprout an ear or eye
Female parts for the perfect male
If daddy can't decide
Respected skin turns a shade too pale
Smiling robots cry
Something else takes control
Don't ask how or why
Luminous without a soul
You walk across the sky
