WITHERING
by Nevada Kerr
Somebody gave me bad advice
Revolting rot and rash
I was battered and demoralized
Left high and dry and dashed
At the risk of sounding stale
My pride was up for sale
Repenting love to no avail
At the bottom of the scale
Green around the gills
I took the harlot's bait
The jealousy that kills
The ghost town widow's hate
Convinced I'd never lose
The hope that made me glad
Your lonely orphan cruise
Was enough to drive me mad
I paid the dearest price
For loosening your screw
Does my misery suffice?
How did I come down with you?
