SUNLIT NIGHT
by Nevada Kerr
Hypnotic the way the oceans rise
And the polar ice caps melt
We opened arid desert eyes
To a drowning Bible Belt
It was a sunlit night when we stumbled
And sank into the ground
Earth and sky griped and grumbled
But we hardly made a sound
Moving sideways through the rubble
Clutching golden down
Twisting in a tangled huddle
Like falling circus clowns
Crazy bird flu weather curfew
We were never warned
One hit wonders, drastic blunders
Big and small towns gone
