SOLITAIRE
by Nevada Kerr
I'd do anything to feel
Passion and zeal
A tingle, a crack
A soul-stirring smack
Some thought transference
From your brain to mine
A gesture or sign
That humans are kind
I strained every muscle
To hold up my head
When I came down
Off that high horse
My pale face turned red
My heart on my sleeve
Hardened and dead
I just need some contact
From the boat that I missed
A bump in the night
A casual kiss
In an unguarded moment
Of impermanent bliss
