AVALANCHE
by Nevada Kerr
The piper was paid in advance
I owe nothing to fate
But the more that I flatter chance
The longer I wait
Besieged by a haggling ghost
With a daymare demand
I wander a lapsing coast
Toward a desolate land
In this maze of amnesia
I can't remember your name
Did we part company
Free of all shame
Was I the sad lunatic
Who screwed up your game
An undaunted bedlamite
In the cat and dog rain
These questions I ask myself
When I'm writhing in pain
Does gravity wrangle with time
Will love come again
