PULLING UP STAKES
by Nevada Kerr
I turned my back on yesterday
Broken strands of DNA
Epic tales of dreams that failed
A roving dog without a trail
In the twinkling of an eye
Flesh decays, pain subsides
Across a void of galaxies
Particles of light collide
An architect of thought control
Grips my giddy sleepless soul
Frantic phantom fairies troll
Poetic terror takes its toll
I drag a lure with bated breath
Up the creek and deep in debt
I keep my tongue between my teeth
Close my mouth and hold my peace
I really don't know what to say
When cells divide and lovers die
I'm sorry but the math has changed
Nothing ever stays the same
