EPIPHANIES
by Nevada Kerr
Recollections I remember
Cost too much to hide
Bred to be disremembered
With the drugs that you prescribe
The finer patents of relief
Manufactured for the times
Therapeutic love and grief
Products of renewed design
An ideal market for the genes
Whose founders never stumble
Chemicals to keep them clean
As complex wires jumble
The soft light transfer is complete
The molecules are holding
A humanlike sense of breach
Dreamy-eyed and molding
Too few proteins in mother's brain
The damage has been done
Robust corn that needs no rain
Stem cells on the run
I slipped a gear and went astray
In the quantum circuit swoon
Utopia nearly bloomed today
But ruin came too soon
