INSOMNIAC
by Nevada Kerr
Forced awake by the thrall of work
Where are my sleeping pills
My overactive mind's a quirk
Feeling drowsy is a thrill
A few hours of rest are all I need
I'm dreamless in the night
I don't expect a life of ease
Just turn out the light
If I make it to the land of nod
I'll fool away the time
Loiter like an idle God
And clam up like a mime
I'll close my eyes to the world at large
And forget my busy day
Disremember every care and charge
And sink into the hay
Lay me down in the soothing hush
Beyond the noisy crowd
Leave me snoring like a deadbeat lush
Still behind this shroud
