CRUICIBLE

by Nevada Kerr

You found the place where I'm overgrown
Too early, ascending, combustion postponed
In a whirl of fire, orchestrating the burn
You transpose desire, ashes filling the urn

Plutonian cur with match and fuse
Red nostrils steaming, melting my shoes
Heartsick, relentless, smoldering dawn
Fever still fierce in the fugitive storm

Dragon volcanic scorching my mouth
Seething with rage and thrashing about
Inside I'm crumpled, white and soft
A folded paper airplane, wings aloft

Cremate me quickly without remorse
Thick fog drifting, embers off course
I try to descend but I float in the air
Flesh turned to smoke, surrendering fear
