OUTPOST
by Nevada Kerr
Are you sure we had a purpose
Before wind and weather turned
How did we profit from the surplus
In the night the sun would burn
Why were we so surprised
When the water level rose
Was the giant's stride compromised
Did our common sense implode
I thought that our resistance
Was mapped out in our teens
You and I cold and distant
Immune to foreign genes
On Earth Day the computers scan
Hordes of half-starved tourists
The party provides a hologram
Of a green and fertile forest
Breathing through plastic tubes
We seldom get a chance to roam
Winter fades, it's forever June
Inside this sterile dome
