PETRIFIED
by Nevada Kerr
I felt a tug, the pull of fear
A sweet repulsion drawing near
A grinding friction, a stabbing thrust
The fatal grip of faith and trust
A grave desire for flesh and bone
A fetal hunger that had no end
A plaintive cry, a mournful groan
It came unbidden, then again
I was a rock, cold and hard
I was a brick, I was a shard
Lonely gristle, heart of stone
Cosmic dust returning home
I felt a deep abiding anger
Yet I could never get enough
It wasn't strange with every stranger
But I don't remember feeling love
