ASKING FOR THE MOON
by Nevada Kerr
I thought you made a promise
You said that this would last
Am I the doubting Thomas
Perhaps we moved too fast
Signing contracts, spending money
My soul for sale or pawned
Your blood spilling like milk and honey
On a green suburban lawn
We threw away our old life
Too many things to carry
Much too high at any price
To pretend that we would marry
Not a chance that it was real
The good life we awaited
What time or fate revealed
Were hopes and dreams inflated
Just like John and Yoko
On the brink of something new
Did I tell you that I saw us falling
Before the bullets flew
