Report: Some early Denver thoughts
From: SLS
DB! My little Rocky Mountain Reality was a wintry BLAST! So many of us waited for hours in winter's chill to have a chance to be close with DB in the intimate Fillmore Auditorium. Luckily, I met several wonderful people including IggyBug and her husband, Lauren (who made sure I got right up front and center with DB!), et al during the long and sometimes gruelling wait to capture choice spots in the auditorium's 'first come, first serve' seating arrangements. Only DB would be worth that!
It was fair to say DB did not disappoint!
A show that began with Rebel Rebel and the NKS pretty much guaranteed that the tone would raucous, riotous and loud! With the only 'breathers' being Loneliest Guy, BMTDK, the spellbinding Fantastic Voyage, and a more guitar-oriented Sunday - the mood ran pretty much at a fever pitch during a 2-plus hour show.
For me, the magic happened with Five Years and Fantastic Voyage! Both songs are beautiful, moving and chilling after 2 decades - it was the first time but I hope not the last time I will hear these live!
I know some here have been fortunate enough to see DB in smaller venues but this place, in spite of pushing and shoving, made for a great and different DB experience!
I'm Afraid of Americans certainly has had a more eerie resonance in the 00s. Funny, it was not among the 2 tracks (Dead Man Walking and 7 Years in Tibet) which Earthling worth owning but it was like many of the Reality tracks - made to play LIVE!

Nice weather, eh? I think I could've handled waiting in the COLD much better if I'd been closer to the front of the line. I didn't know people would be lining up so early (a friend said that was very unusual). I "only" waited in line for 3 hours, and pretty much kicked myself the whole time for having arrived so late. Damn. How cold was it (cold enough!)? "Sometimes gruelling," indeed!
I ended up at the right side of the stage; I mostly got DB's profile. Aside from an obnoxious drunk couple, the crowd up front was very well-behaved.
Fantastic Voyage was amazing! I never thought I'd hear that one live. And Blue Jean was such a treat! Five Years was stunning, but it would have been perfect if he'd played "Soul Love" right after it.
It was a great show with a very appreciative and enthusiastic audience. I enjoyed sharing the experience with friends, and seeing David looking freaking incredible! How does he do it?!

A Reality Tour: Fillmore Auditorium
19 January 2004.
Denver, Colorado
I wanted to share the Denver experience. It was a wonderful show!
My little Rocky Mountain Reality was a wintry BLAST!
Approximately 36 hundred DB fans descended upon Denver, CO for a stop on the North American leg of the Reality tour. So many of us waited for hours in winters chill to have a chance to be close with DB in downtown Denvers intimate Fillmore Auditorium.
Luckily I met several wonderful people including IggyBug and her husband, also Lauren (who made sure I was right up front and center with DB!), et al during the long and sometimes gruelling wait to capture choice spots in the auditorium with the first come, first serve seating arrangements. Only DB would be worth that!
DB was awesome throughout! A show that began with Rebel Rebel and the NKS guaranteed a raucous tone! This was nothing like 2002's Area 2 mini tour. With the only breathers being Loneliest Guy, BMTDK, the spellbinding Fantastic Voyage, and a more guitar-oriented Sunday - the mood ran pretty much at a fever pitch during the 2-plus hour, 29-song-set.
One might expect the audience to sing along with All the Young Dudes and China Girl but I'm Afraid of Americans worked the audience into a frenzy! Like the guitar-heavy Hallo Spaceboy (played closer to the 1. Outside version) and the 80s nugget Blue Jean, Americans was made to play LIVE.
Inevitably, the addictive Days seemed to be a fan favorite.
For me, the magic happened with Five Years and Fantastic Voyage! Both songs are beautiful, haunting and moving after three decades - it was my first but I hope not the last time I will hear these live!
The Fillmore, being a smaller venue, made for a great and different DB experience!
