BOWIE CONCERT TICKET SALES
28th April 2002

To state that DAVID BOWIE concert tickets are selling "like hot cakes" at the moment is an understatement to say the least. I'm struggling to find any of the ticket outlets that haven't already sold out except for maybe Belgium.

The BowieNet members specially reserved tickets for Meltdown in London are now completely sold out, with the vast majority of BNet members obtaining tickets.

If you're planning on getting hold of tickets for the "soon to be announced" shows in Europe and USA then don't hang around - get in there fast. Don't forget that BowieNet members will have access to great tickets for the Area: 2 Festival Tour with Moby later this summer.

The Area 2 festival tour will cover the USA - from Canada down to Los Angeles. Expect quite a few shows to be announced.

24th April 2002

DAVID BOWIE emailed this message through to me today and asked if I would kindly post it for everyone to read.

I really appreciate you folks who were big enough to give a quick apology for 'tetchy' mails yesterday. It was a complete shambles and I felt so bad about it. I really am sorry as I wanted it to swing along so smoothly. thank goodness it seems to be operating OK again now though.

For folk going to either NY, London or any other of the Euro shows, we all are really looking forward to it and can't wait to play for you.

Bad Cover Version cover Out now in the UK is the new single releases from PULP. Released as two CD singles, CD1 and CD2 features the Heddon Street cover a la Ziggy Stardust. There's also the DVD release which features the promo video, the making of backstage footage and a photo gallery.

CD2: Bad Cover Version (video version)/Disco 2000 (by Nick Cave)/Sorted For E's & Wizz (by Roisin Murphy).

DVD: features the classic video for 'Bad Cover Version' and the making of the video.

The promo video shows an array of look-a-like rock stars singing along to the track in a spoof of the Band Aid charity single 'Do They Know It's Christmas'. The look-a-likes include DAVID BOWIE, Kurt Cobain, Robbie Williams, Liam Gallagher, George Michael, Elton John, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bono, Missy Elliot, Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Kylie, Bjork, Gary Numan and even a bad Jarvis Cocker. THE BITS FLEW FAR AND WIDE

If you need the English translated pages there's a couple here available to help you plan for the Danish and Norwegian festivals DAVID BOWIE is performing at... Denmark Horsens (tickets go on sale next Saturday) and the Norway Quart Festival (tickets on sale NOW)...

BOWIENET AUCTIONS latest offering is a signed David Bowie proof of a new lithograph. Designed by the artist Rex Ray and signed by David Bowie, this is the artist proof sent to David for approval. This design will appear later this year on a signed, limited edition lithograph. Approximately 18" x 24". Besides getting yourself a genuine DB signature and a nice piece of art, you're also helping Save The Children charity - Find Bowie items on eBay...

Make sure you get your copy of NME this week. On sale today in the capital and the rest of the UK tomorrow. They are celebrating their 50 years with a special issue. The top 50 artists to have had an influence will be revealed but as a taster they now reveal the Top 10 - which also includes The Beatles, DAVID BOWIE, Oasis and Public Enemy. The list takes into account: Appearances on front covers. Volume and significance of features. Dominance of end of year writers polls. The response from our readers in the weekly letters page. The presence of their name and influence in the paper (e.g. the number of acts referred to as the new them, the endless questioning of other artists for their opinions of them, the terrible pun headlines on their name or song titles...). And the speed with which they took over. Bowie has the highest number of front cover shots of any artist. All twenty-one covers are reprinted along with specially written comments from David on each one. Check out the NME website...

Bowie tribute band CH-CHANGES play De Salon at the Oosthavenkade 9, Vlaardingen-centrum on Saturday April 20th. After last Sunday nights big success in the Vagabond, it should be another great night. The gig also features the great Roxy Music band Re-Make/Re-Model. The bands play between 23.00 and 2.00 at night. (from Shtratman)...

BOWIE'S HEATHEN SLEEVE UNVEILED
16th April 2002

Heathen cover Today ISO/Columbia records revealed the cover for DAVID BOWIE'S new album 'Heathen'.

The cover of the album, due for release on ISO/Columbia Records on June 10th, will feature a startling picture of Bowie by noted photographer Markus Klinko and his partner Indrani.

To complement the amazing shots of Bowie that were taken earlier this year in New York, David enlisted the innovative British designer Jonathan Barnbrook to provide an individual and original typeface for the sleeve.

Post-production work on the image's eyes was then carried out by photographer Markus Klinko's partner and computer whiz, Indrani.

'Heathen' will be Bowie's 25th album and sees him reuniting with producer Tony Visconti for the first time in 20 years, the album also sees appearances from Who guitarist Pete Townshend and Foo Fighter Dave Grohl.

To accompany the album Bowie will be embarking upon a series of live dates throughout Europe and the US more details of which will be announced soon.

For Bowie collectors, anoraks and fans of Nick Berry (hi Blam) - during last Sunday's episode of HEARTBEAT on UK's ITV station you could hear db's 'The Laughing Gnome'. Big deal, so what? Ahh well it wasn't just your standard run-of-the-mill version though. It was basically a loop of the intro without any vocals so it made quite interesting listening! Behold it appeared not once, but twice on a ventriloquist's dummy for what it's worth! (from Martin)...

BOWIENET AUCTIONS latest offering is a signed David Bowie uncut poster proof. This poster was created by the artist Rex Ray to commemorate a concert at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City in June of 2000. This full-colour proof is signed by Rex and David and measures approximately 13 inches x 18 inches. Besides getting yourself a "real" DB signature and a nice piece of art, you're also helping Save The Children charity - Find Bowie items on eBay...

FREDDIE MERCURY TRIBUTE ON DVD
8th April 2002

The 1992 FREDDIE MERCURY 'Tribute For Life' Concert is due for DVD release on May 13th. The region 2 package will contain two DVDs. The first disc will contain the second half of the show only, whilst the second disc will be home to a host of extra features.

The benefit show from Wembley Stadium in London on 20th April 1992 brought together a whole host of stars. Highlights of the show for me were David and Annie Lennox performing an amazing version of Under Pressure, with Annie quite definitely star struck singing with one of her biggest idols. This benefit show also marks the final live performance from Mick Ronson, who performed with David and Ian Hunter on a memorable rendition of All The Young Dudes.

The track listing is as follows:

Tie Your Mother Down - Queen/Joe Elliott
     I Want It All - Queen/Roger Daltry
Las Palabras De Amor - Queen/Zucchero
Hammer To Fall - Queen/Gary Cherone
Stone Cold Crazy - Queen/James Hetfield
Crazy Little Thing Called Love - Queen/Robert Plant
Too Much Love Will Kill You - Brian May
Radio Ga Ga - Queen/Paul Young
Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen/Seal
I Want To Break Free - Queen/Lisa Stansfield
     Under Pressure - Queen/David Bowie/Annie Lennox
     All The Young Dudes - Queen/David Bowie/Mick Ronson/Ian Hunter
     "Heroes" - Queen/David Bowie

     '39 - Queen/George Michael
These Are The Days Of Our Lives - Queen/George Michael
Somebody To Love - Queen/George Michael
     Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen/Elton John/Axl Rose
We Will Rock You - Queen/Axl Rose
We Are The Champions - Queen/Liza Minelli/Full Cast

Disc Two features a documentary made by DoRo about the event, including backstage footage and rehearsals, and features an introduction by Roger Taylor filmed recently. There is also a short piece on the Mercury Phoenix Trust and still photographs from fans and from the official photographers.

The television version of the documentary will be broadcast on May 25th on Channel Four and June 15th on VH1.

HEATHEN FEATURES TOWNSHEND AND GROHL
5th April 2002

David Bowie's 'Heathen' To Feature Pete Townshend and Dave Grohl

Fri Apr 5, 7:37 PM ET

The upcoming DAVID BOWIE album features contributions from not one but two high-profile guitarists. Heathen, due June 10th on ISO Records/Columbia (June 11th USA), sees The Who leader Pete Townshend playing on the album's likely first single in the US, 'Slow Burn'. Bowie describes Townshend's performance as "the most eccentric and aggressive guitar I've heard Pete play, quite unlike anything else he's done recently."

Besides Townshend, 'Slow Burn' also features the Borneo Horns, the group that Bowie took on the road for his Serious Moonlight tour.

Townshend recorded his parts last October, when he and The Who played the Concert For New York City at Madison Square Garden. Townshend last recorded with Bowie on the song 'Because You're Young' from Bowie's 1980 album Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps). Also laying down guitar parts for the album is Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl.

The music on Heathen was produced and mixed by long time Bowie cohort Tony Visconti, but in addition, two remixes have been announced. Moby has reworked the album's likely opener, 'Sunday', while the French electronica team Air has reworked the song 'A Better Future'. Release information on the remixes will be announced soon, but they're not expected to be included on the album.

The tracklisting for Heathen (not in running order) includes: 'Sunday', 'Slow Burn', 'I Would Be Your Slave', 'Afraid', 'Marching', 'Wood Jackson', '5:15 The Angels Have Gone', 'A Better Future',' 'Heathen', 'Slip Away', and 'Everyone Says Hi'.

HOW'S THAT SOUND MISTER?
1st April 2002

Remember last February and the news of the multi-track transfer and archival of the 'The Man Who Fell To Earth'? The reason for the project by SRT (Sound Recording Technology) in Cambridgeshire, UK is for the DVD release in early 2003 by Anchor Bay Entertainment. (2003 Jan-June).

The Man Who Fell To Earth, 16x9, THX, DTS, Dolby EX, Interviews, cc. Anamorphic 16x9 enchanced for widescreen TV, THX Mastering, DTS Soundtrack and Dolby Ex.

Anchor Bay Entertainment also have a UK market so hopefully it will be released worldwide.

Note the inclusion of interviews... I presume these will be the same ones used originally on the laserdisc release by Criterion. The laserdisc featured audio commentary by director Nic Roeg, David Bowie and co-star Buck Henry, deleted scenes analysis, with photos and continuity book excerpts. More than 100 production photos, costume sketches, and behind-the-scenes snapshots.

Thanks to GP for locating the Anchor Bay release info.
