ENCHANTING DAVID BOWIE
30th July 2015

Published today is a brand new title ENCHANTING DAVID BOWIE: Space/Time/Body/Memory by Toija Cinque (Editor), Christopher Moore (Editor) and Sean Redmond (Editor).

Available in three different formats: Hardcover / Paperback / Kindle, it contains 368 pages and published by Bloomsbury Academic USA.

Enchanting David Bowie: Space/Time/Body/Memory Synopsis: A longstanding, successful and frequently controversial career spanning more than four decades establishes David Bowie as charged with contemporary cultural relevance. That David Bowie has influenced many lives is undeniable to his fans. He requisitions and challenges his audiences, through frequently indirect lyrics and images, to critically question sanity, identity and essentially what it means to be 'us' and why we are here. Enchanting David Bowie explores David Bowie as an anti-temporal figure and argues that we need to understand him across the many media platforms and art spaces he intersects with including theatre, film, television, the web, exhibition, installation, music, lyrics, video, and fashion. This exciting collection is organised according to the key themes of space, time, body, and memory - themes that literally and metaphorically address the key questions and intensities of his output.

Reviews: This scintillating collection considers David Bowie's contemporaneity, showing how the star looks very different today - and how every different Bowie is a hero, if just for one day. With each chapter like a crystal ball ricocheting around a multi-level labyrinth, Enchanting David Bowie is full of surprises and delights for the fan and scholar alike. - Christopher Schaberg, Associate Professor of English, Loyola University New Orleans, USA, and author of 'The Textual Life of Airports' and 'Deconstructing Brad Pitt'.

Consider for a moment, David Bowie's extraordinary body of work, not just the music, but also his assimilation of different media practices: writing, painting, performance, film and video. This volume coheres around four thematic vectors - space, time, body and memory - to interrogate Bowie's remarkable corpus of cultural production. In the process, Enchanting David Bowie - itself a standout work - not only illuminates but also construes 'Bowie' - or versions of Bowie - that are at once compelling and fascinating. - Constantine Verevis, Associate Professor of Film and Screen Studies, Monash University, Australia.

You can purchase Enchanting David Bowie: Space/Time/Body/Memory NOW.

NOTHING HUMAN LOVES FOREVER
28th July 2015

The Hunger Blue-ray Horror movie THE HUNGER is to finally be released on Blu-ray disc this Summer.

The 1983 movie directed by the late Tony Scott, stars Catherine Deneuve (Miriam Blaylock), DAVID BOWIE (John Blaylock) and Susan Sarandon (Dr. Sarah Roberts).

Synopsis: Miriam Blaylock collects Renaissance art, ancient Egyptian pendants, lovers, souls. Alive and fashionably chic in Manhattan, Miriam is an ageless vampire. "Vampire" is not a word you'll hear in this movie based on the novel by Whitley Strieber (Wolfen). Instead, debuting feature director Tony Scott stakes out a hip, sensual, modern-gothic makeover. Catherine Deneuve radiates macabre elegance as Miriam, bless with beauty, cursed with bloodlust. David Bowie is fellow fiend and refined husband John. In love, in life, in longing they are inseparable. But when John abruptly begins to age and turns to a geriatrics researcher (Susan Sarandon) for help, Miriam soon eyes the woman as a replacement for John. The Hunger is insatiable.

Released via Warner Archive Collection (exact date TBA). The specifications are yet to be finalised, but supplements include:

MOAFF 2016 FESTIVAL HEADS UP
25th July 2015

Okay, so it's still over a year away, but we can announce that MEMORY OF A FREE FESTIVAL 2016, which falls on Saturday 13th August, has none other than legendary producer TONY VISCONTI as the musical curator.

As you know, Tony Visconti's connections with DAVID BOWIE run deep. He produced the albums David Bowie (aka Space Oddity), The Man Who Sold The World, David Live, Young Americans, Low, "Heroes", Stage, Lodger, Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), Heathen, Reality and The Next Day.

Tony has recently completed a successful UK and Japan tour with Holy Holy (who perform Bowie music mainly from his Beckenham years), playing bass and thrilling audiences.

Also, Tony performed alongside Bowie at the Beckenham Art Lab in the Three Tuns (now Zizzi's) and for a while lived at Haddon Hall, Bowie's Beckenham home, where most of the music from this era was composed.

We don't yet know which acts Tony will select, but with his connections he probably has some interesting artists in his address book. We'll keep you updated on this as the festival takes shape.

NEW DAVID BOWIE BOOK IN THE PIPELINE
22nd July 2015

Here's a heads up on a new DAVID BOWIE book entitled: Psychedelic Suburbia by journalist MARY FINNIGAN that is currently in the pipeline.

Due for publication this Autumn, it promises to be a first hand account of the Beckenham launch pad days.

Independent publishers JORVIK PRESS located in Portland, Oregon, USA, have a witty statement on their website in their 'forthcoming' section...

'Oh no, please not another David Bowie book! We know quite enough about what Bowie did to his friends and lovers and what he did for his millions of fans, but his origins in the late sixties have been shrouded in hearsay. Until now, that is.'

'Here's the story of what Bowie did to Beckenham, Kent, the town in southeast England that launched him on his trip to stardom. Written by a freelance journalist and friend who was one of the first people to encourage and support him. Coming Fall 2015.'

ENDA TALKS ABOUT UPCOMING DB PROJECT
21st July 2015

ENDA WALSH is interviewed by Padraic Killeen and talks about his upcoming project with DAVID BOWIE.

In December, the Dubliner's collaboration with David Bowie will premiere off-Broadway in the New York Theatre Workshop.

Titled Lazarus and starring Dexter actor Michael C. Hall, the show centres on the character that Bowie played in Nicolas Roeg's 1975 film The Man Who Fell To Earth - that of an alien who comes to earth in order to save his home planet, which has been stricken by war and environmental disaster.

The show features classic Bowie songs as well as new material written especially for the score.

Walsh signed up for the gig after producers arranged a meeting with Bowie. "He had read my plays and had seen some of it performed in St Ann's Warehouse in New York," he says.

"He was fantastic. I think he talked to me for an hour and a half or so about the work, just sort of interviewed me: 'why did you do this and this and this, and what's this recurring motif?'

He knew thematically where I was at and where the work was shifting toward. And, of course, he's just a ferocious reader. It was as if this man knows every fucking word I've written."

Notably, despite Bowie's towering status within the pop culture firmament, Walsh remains cool and nonchalant as he discusses it all, describing the iconic star as a natural collaborator and an incredibly friendly man.

"The sweetest thing about it is that really, really quickly - like, within three minutes - you forget that he is who he is and then it's just all about the work. But like, occasionally, you do go, 'Oh f**king hell. That's David Bowie. What's all this about?'"

You can read the whole interview via the irishexaminer.com website.

The box set's accompanying book, 128 pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen photos as well as technical notes about each album from producers Tony Visconti and Ken Scott, an original press review for each album and a short foreword by legendary Kinks front man Ray Davies.

The CD box set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums and the CDs will be gold rather than the usual silver.

An alternate cover has been created for the 2003 mix of Ziggy Stardust by Ken Scott, which features an outtake from the original Heddon Street photo session. There is also newly originated artwork for Re:Call 1 featuring a 1973 in-studio image from renowned photographer Mick Rock.
