FROM STATION TO STATION BOOK UPDATE
28th March 2007

From Station To Station Update on the forthcoming book 'From Station To Station' Travels with Bowie 1973-1976 by GEOFF MacCORMACK mentioned on here last December with Genesis Publications Ltd releasing binding details of the collectors edition...

In 1973 DAVID BOWIE's boyhood friend Geoff MacCormack was given the opportunity to accompany the Man Who Fell To Earth as he travelled across the world. For the next three years Geoff was by Bowie's side, travelling through Japan, across Russia on the Trans-Siberian Express, through Paris and Rome, and all over the US.

He was on stage when Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust. He helped record six albums, including Pin Ups, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans at the legendary Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and Station To Station.

A Traveller's Tale:

What better way then to encompass these unique stories and photographs as recounted by Geoff than by replicating a traveller's diary.

It is natural then that we use leather binding along the spine as a necessity for hard wearing and endurance. To accentuate the exclusivity of this title we have used premium goatskin leather (known for its high durability and beauty), 22 carat gold page edging and with a padded board underneath custom-designed Imitlin we succeed in mirroring a cloth-bound journal.

From Station To Station Highlighted Details:

The attention to detail hasn't stopped there. We have replicated a folio-style box to continue the travelling theme. This hand-made case features a hidden magnetic clasp to hold your copy securely and in mint condition. Covered with facsimile replicas of the actual travel stamps collected it is a piece of art in its own right.

From Station To Station Views of the Box:

All this work and that's just for the book's cover and box. Over the coming weeks we shall be showing you the Deluxe binding and taking a more in-depth look into the content of this very special limited edition.

It is a truly collectable limited edition that should be high on your wish list. Please don't hesitate to contact any of the Genesis team if you have any queries.

LEONARD RIDES GUITAR TO STARDOM
11th March 2007

The POUGHKEEPSIE JOURNAL have published an online interview with DAVID BOWIE band guitarist GERRY LEONARD.

In the article Gerry talks about how he hooked up with David to play on the Heathen and Reality albums and then went on to become the musical director during the 'A Reality' world tour.

Highlights include: "Then I met David," Leonard said. "David came and saw Spooky Ghost down at The Living Room. David came in with his overcoat and sat in the audience. I was nervous as hell. We played a great show, we had this very funky thing going on, we had a trio. We'd run Betty Boop movies behind us."

Bowie, Leonard said, "Loved it. He was yelling out comments, heckling me, responding to stuff that I would say."

The newly mixed 5.1 Surround Sound has been completed by TONY VISCONTI. He wrote on his website at tonyvisconti.com

'...I've just finished mixing the amazing Young Americans in 5.1 Surround Sound, too, for its 30th anniversary (has it been that long?). The release will be in a few months. There will be bonus tracks and a surprise.

All the tracks have been mixed from the master tapes to 96khz high definition digital audio. That translates to 'freakin' scary' quality. Mr. Bowie is front and center, but the backing is now spread 360º with Mr. Vandross hovering over your left shoulder for most of the album. John Lennon's six string acoustic is almost entirely in the right rear speaker on 'Across The Universe' and you just might hear a comment from him when the song is over. What really brought it home to me was how great David's vocals were, and a lot of them were live takes with him standing in the same room as the band at Sigma Studios in Philadelphia.'

Note: The North American CD and DVD release has been rescheduled for release on 8th May. The release date in Europe remains the same on 19th March [More details]
