Just released on exclusive limited edition Blu-ray is THE STRANGE WORLD OF GURNEY SLADE via Network Distributing.
I'm sure you're all aware of DAVID BOWIE's huge admiration for ANTHONY NEWLEY, who not only used Newley's singing style predominantly in 1967, but took huge inspiration from the surreal 'The Strange World of Gurney Slade' TV series.
This brilliantly inventive 1960 TV series was unlike anything seen on television before. It was way ahead of its time. Bowie obviously took note using several ideas and ways of thinking, which he would incorporate into his own personae.
Anthony Newley stars as an actor who walks off the set of a banal sit-com and into a fantasy world of his own imagination in this surreal odyssey through one man's personal alternative reality. An unpredictable, absurdist fantasy, the series was created by Newley and written by comedy legends Sid Green and Dick Hills (soon to become key writers for Morecambe and Wise).
The show had a major impact on the young Jones. Later in 1973, he spoke about the series in several interviews...
"I liked the Gurney Slade things which were a lovely use of television," he told Michael Wale in The Times (24th January 1973), "Gurney Slade I remember from school because I remember buying a short white mac like he wore..."
He also spoke about this own persona and love of the series in the New Musical Express when interviewed by Charles Shaar Murray (24th February 1973):
"...especially when I was younger. I was the world's worst mimic - I mean, Anthony Newley. I was Anthony Newley for a year. He stopped his world and got off, which is terrible, because he was once one of the most talented men that England ever produced. Remember the 'Gurney Slade' series? That was tremendous. A friend of mine has a collection of them, and there's a lot of Monty Python in there - left-handed screws and right-handed screws."
In 2013, featured in the Bowie Is exhibition at the V&A Museum was a Konrads-era framed photograph of him holding a still from the programme.
This limited edition exclusive Blu-ray is restored in High Definition from original 35mm film elements and also includes:
• Three Saturday Spectacular shows from 1960 featuring Anthony Newley alongside Shirley Bassey, Peter Sellers, Janette Scott, Lionel Blair and others. These variety specials feature Newley's initial attempts at building the "internal monologue character" that would eventually become Gurney Slade.
• Original Gurney Slade promotional shorts.
• Extensive image galleries.
• The Small World of Sammy Lee: the classic 1963 British crime film starring Anthony Newley.
• The Small World of Sammy Lee special features: newly-discovered archive film material featuring an alternative ending, textless titles and a promotional interview with Anthony Newley.
• Commemorative booklet with contributions from Andrew Pixley, Dick Fiddy and Andrew Roberts, (which includes several David Bowie mentions of his admiration for Newley).
• Free streaming of the series' six episodes from today only when you buy the limited edition Blu-ray set. Limited to the UK and Ireland.

UPDATE #2: Due to the uncertainty of what tier London will be in on 1 January, BFI Southbank have decided to postpone their David Bowie season until later in 2021. Their January programme (and reopening plans) following the next Government review of the tiers at the end of December.
UPDATE: In line with the Government announcement that London will adopt Tier 3 COVID restrictions, BFI Southbank will be temporarily closed from Wednesday 16 December, and December performances will no longer take place. We will be in touch with ticket holders later this week.
They are also temporarily suspending BFI Southbank priority booking for January's programme but hope to have more news on this soon.
The British Film Institute (BFI) announces that they will kick off 2021 with a season celebrating actor and performer DAVID BOWIE five years since his death; whether bit-part or starring role, David Bowie was always magnetic on screen. Bowie: Starman and the Silver Screen will feature screenings of titles including: The Man Who Fell To Earth (Nicolas Roeg, 1976), Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (Nagisa Oshima, 1983), Absolute Beginners (Julien Temple, 1986), Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (David Lynch, 1992), Labyrinth (Jim Henson, 1986) and many more.
As a composer, innovator and concept artist, Bowie's fascination for film fed an insatiable creative drive, which the season will also explore via a selection of titles that influenced the eclectic artist - from 2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968) and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Robert Wiene, 1920) to Querelle (Rainer Werner Fassbinder, 1982) and Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976). Audiences around the UK will also be able to enjoy the season on BFI Player, with a small accompanying collection of films.

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE: London 17th December 2020.
To remember David Bowie on his birthday and to mark the fifth anniversary of his untimely death, producers Robert Fox and RZO Entertainment Inc are exclusively releasing the stream of the London production of Lazarus, captured live on stage. The streaming will be available for three performances only. This will be the UK premiere of the filmed version of this remarkable show.
Lazarus includes songs from Bowie's iconic catalogue as well as new songs written for the stage including the title song, Lazarus.
Inspired by the book, The Man Who Fell To Earth, by Walter Tevis ("The Queen's Gambit") Lazarus focuses on Thomas Newton, as he remains still on Earth - a 'man' unable to die, his head soaked in cheap gin and haunted by a past love. We follow Newton during the course of a few days where the arrival of another lost soul - might finally set him free.
Michael C Hall ("Dexter", "Six Feet Under") stars as Newton, the character famously portrayed by David Bowie in the 1976 screen adaptation of The Man Who Fell To Earth directed by Nicolas Roeg. Lazarus co-stars Sophia Anne Caruso ("Beetlejuice" on Broadway) and the production is directed by Ivo van Hove ("All About Eve", "Network" and "A View From The Bridge").
Lazarus opened at The New York Theatre Workshop in November 2015. The London production opened in November 2016 where it played a sold out run.
This live-streamed event will be available for three performances only in multiple time zones (GMT, AEDT, EST, PST, CST) from Friday 8 to Sunday 10 January 2021.
The Lazarus Cast Album is available on RCA / ISO Records.

The DAVID BOWIE Station To Station (45th Anniversary Edition) is to be released on 22nd January available in random red or white vinyl.
This special limited edition LP is available at 'bricks and mortar' record stores.
Originally released on 23rd January 1976, Station To Station was David Bowie's tenth studio album. To celebrate its 45th anniversary Parlophone is proud to announce a special limited edition 'bricks and mortar' only red and white vinyl pressing of the album.
45 years on from its release 'Station To Station' is now seen as a musical bridge between the 'plastic soul' of 1975's 'Young Americans' and the experimental beginning of Bowie's 'Berlin era' that was 1977's 'Low'.
The album's first single 'Golden Years' was a hit on both sides of the Atlantic and one of five singles released from the six-song album (though the title track was only released on 45 in France and 'Stay' was a single exclusively in the USA).
The tracklsting runs as follows:
SIDE 1:
Station To Station
Golden Years
Word On A Wing
SIDE 2:
TVC 15

BW COMPETITION NO. 32 is now underway... here's your chance to win one of two copies of the recently published BOWIE ODYSSEY 70 by SIMON GODDARD.
This beautifully written 192-page book covers the David Bowie period of 1970. I've only just finished reading it myself and I highly recommend it. No wonder it is 'A Sunday Times Book of the Year 2020'. Thoroughly deserved.
Synopsis: He starts the decade a teenage pop idol. But the one-hit wonder who sang 'Space Oddity' is still very far from becoming the star who will one day define the 1970s. Not when he still has a band to find, a manager to sack, a mentally ill brother to save, a wife to marry and a rival called Marc Bolan to beat. Not when David Bowie still has no idea who or what David Bowie is. Starting at the beginning of Bowie's incredible ten-year odyssey changing the course of pop music, Simon Goddard's bold and expressionistic biography weaves time, space, rock 'n' roll and social history to relive Bowie's 1970 moment by vivid moment.

Check out the teaser from NACHO for his 'DAVID BOWIE is The Man Who Fell To Earth - Returning to Earth 2021' revised deocumentary.
This is an excerpt from the work-in-progress revised version of the 2017 documentary, David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth.
David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth, is a film about a film - Nic Roeg's 1976 esoteric science fiction movie - The Man Who Fell To Earth. Roeg's film has beguiled and baffled audiences since its release. The film explores, often in abstraction and allegory, the themes of alienation, power, love, trust and betrayal.
David Bowie is The Man Who Fell To Earth is an attempt to partly explain the movie. And it is a look at the way the film came together, and at Roeg's working methods, and at the creative process itself.

Announced today is the release of a beautiful new limited edition book of photographs by BRIAN ARIS, featuring the very best of his sessions with DAVID BOWIE between 1985 and 2000, accompanied by Brian's stories behind the sessions.
This 166-page hardcover is individually signed and numbered by Brian, and is accompanied by a signed and numbered limited edition photograph, in a presentation box. First copies will ship on 17th December.
Brian met David Bowie for the first time in 1985, while shooting backstage at Live Aid at Wembley Stadium. Brian recalls: "David's arrival behind the scenes took me by surprise, as his low-key manner was so much at odds with his on-stage image. Here was a quiet, well-dressed, softly spoken but obviously very articulate man, politely shaking hands with all the backstage crew as he introduced himself." The pictures were taken quickly, David posing with Bob Geldof and then on his own. Brian was at Wembley in 1986 to witness David Bowie and Mick Jagger perform 'Dancing In The Street', and photographed him again at the wedding of Bob Geldof and Paula Yates.
He photographed David in Dublin in 1991, both in a studio setting and on stage at close quarters playing live at The Baggot Inn with Tin Machine. He accompanied David Bowie to Rome in October 1991 when the band played at the Teatro Brancaccio. In 1992 David asked him to photograph the rehearsals at Bray Studios for the tribute to Freddie Mercury, and the subsequent performance at Wembley.
In June 1992 Brian photographed David and Iman's wedding celebrations in Florence. As Brian recalls: "I had worked for many years with David's publicist Alan Edwards of The Outside Organisation and we have shared many wonderful experiences together. But when Alan called to say that David was going to be marrying Iman and that they wanted me to shoot their wedding it felt quite bizarre. But then, when he went on to explain that the ceremony was going to be held at the St. James Episcopal church in the Italian city of Florence my heart sank a little. Italy was the original home of the infamous paparazzi, photographers who would go to any length to get their pictures, and they were going to be thrilled with this challenge. Keeping them at bay would be a nightmare. But who could resist an invitation to photograph the most glamorous couple in the world getting married in one of its most beautiful and romantic cities, with the only concern being that of having the dreaded 'paps' hot on our heels, trying to break into an event that David did not want them to shoot? What could possibly go wrong..."
In 1993 Brian and David met up again, this time for a set of of promotional photographs for The Buddha of Suburbia, taken in Bromley in South East London. In 1999 he photographed David and Iman backstage at the concert to raise funds for the Jubilee 2000 campaign.
The final shoot took place in New York in 2000 when David and Iman invited Brian to their home to photograph them with their newly-born daughter Alexandria. It was during a break in this shoot that David took a picture of Brian and turned it into a signed artwork that he presented to Brian before he left the building. As Brian remembers: "That print remains one of my proudest possessions, a constant reminder to this day that I had the privilege of knowing and working with David at a time when I believe he was at his happiest."

Check out a DAVID BOWIE in New York 1980 documentary put together by NACHO.
This is an approximately 40-minute documentary that offers an overview of the six months that David Bowie was in the U.S., starring in the stage play, The Elephant Man.
The film's primary focus is on Bowie's New York experience during that pivotal period. It also outlines the play itself and something of the real-life Elephant Man.
Culled from over 50 sources, all known scenes of Bowie as The Elephant Man character are included, along with music, interview and other pertinent archive material.
Nacho says: "The idea for this film originated in 2016 out of desperation to see / create a video for the Bowie '80 era. I toyed with using The Elephant Man footage to make a video for the track Scary Monsters. Those experiments proved to be fruitless. But when telling a Bowie collector mate about them, he suggested making a "fake" TV ad, based on the real 1980 radio ad for Bowie in the Elephant Man play."
"Whilst working on that, it occurred to me that there should be a documentary about Bowie in the play. And then the "fake" ad morphed into a hybrid of ad and trailer for an imaginary forthcoming documentary, then called: 'David Bowie is The Elephant Man'. Well, four years and about 500 editing hours later, here is that documentary."

The MainMan group of companies was a first of its kind rights management organisation formed by entrepreneur and impresario Tony Defries in 1972, that supported and helped to develop the careers of various artistes including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Mick Ronson, Mott The Hoople, Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs, Dana Gillespie, Amanda Lear, Wayne/Jayne County, John Cougar Mellencamp and many others.

Check out the DAVID BOWIE items in the The Rock & Roll Pop Culture Auction which runs until 4th December.
Lot 20: David Bowie handwritten and signed unreleased poem, written to 'Little Claudine'. Handwritten and signed by Bowie, with the date '99 in red fiber-tip marker, measures 8 x 10.5. Accompanied by a very large lock of David Bowie's hair. The poem and lock of hair have a very interesting backstory. 'Little Claudine' is Claudine Pascal, who was the manager of Chunga King Recording Studios in New York City for four years when Bowie came to record there for four days in the red room. Bowie brought a stylist with him who cut his hair, and Claudine gladly cleaned up afterword, and kept the cut hair that had fallen to the floor. Claudine was a huge fan of Bowie's, and Bowie hand-wrote and signed this poem for her, after she had gotten him to read her own poetry. Very good condition. Bowie's hair and the handwritten and signed poem come directly from Claudine Pascal, and along with her detailed, two-page, handwritten and signed letter of provenance, Claudine has included a copy of her poem that he read that night, as well as his comment to her after he read it. Also comes with a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
Lot 151: An original copy of the extremely rare David Bowie 'Diamond Dogs' album with the 'Genitals Cover'. This is one of the rarest and most sought after Bowie collectibles, as well as one of the rarest records in the world. This 1974 album was issued with the dog's genitals airbrushed out, but some early covers with the genitals were distributed by RCA Records salesmen for display purposes. This album was NEVER sold with this rare cover, and an extremely small number of the uncensored 'genitals covers' have ever surfaced. It is said that there are less than 6 copies of this album in existence. This copy is in good condition, with some very slight wear on the top of the album. For a record collector, this is the ultimate record and could be the only opportunity to add this into your collection. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
Lot 152: For much of 1966, David Bowie was backed by a group called The Buzz, although they only recorded one single with him (on which they were not credited). Bowie formed The Buzz quickly in February 1966; his previous band, The Lower Third, had left after a dispute with management over pay. Anything signed in 1966 by Bowie is rare, but also signed by the Buzz is next to impossible. Bowie and The Buzz has signed this item in black ballpoint pen, with several members inscribing the signatures to 'Ella'. Measures 8 x 10. Good condition, with minor tape stain bottom right and minor rips on the edges. Comes with a Roger Epperson Letter of Authenticity (REAL) and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.
Lot 153: A rare limited edition of the David Bowie album, 'Diamond Dogs'. Issued on the RYKO label in US in 1990, catalogue number 01986. Album is still sealed and never been played. Pristine condition. Comes with a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.

Full details of the season will be announced soon. Audiences around the UK will also be able to enjoy the season on BFI Player, with a small accompanying collection of films.
