During the star-studded event, Katharina Harf, COO of DKMS Americas and host of the event presented the 'DKMS Linked Against Leukemia Award' to global pop star RIHANNA for her tireless work with the organisation to register bone marrow donors and help save lives. Michael Clinton was also honoured.

BOWIE AT COACHELLA FESTIVAL!
25th April 2011

David Bowie pizza DAVID BOWIE made a rather unusual appearance at the 2011 COACHELLA FESTIVAL in California.

Each and every year there are usual rumours that he will be appearing, but this year he was there albeit in a different guise.

At the NY Pizza stall you had five choices - for $6 or $7 it was either a slice of cheese, pepperoni, Go West Ma Pesto, Greek or David Bowie.

Several people emailed in with this earth-shattering news! When I asked some of them what it tasted like, their replies ranged from "absolutely awesome"... "ridiculously nice"... "it was outta sight"... "like stardust in my mouth"... and "yeah not bad"...

And still on the topic of David Bowie related food - in the UK one of the current advertisement blurbs for OASIS drinks is 'Wham Bam thank you Ham'. Oasis. It'll go with anything'.

The blurb (one of several) is featured on their advertisement billboards and is printed on the bottle cap lid.

AND THE BITS FLEW FAR AND WIDE...
21st April 2011

Fresh from his stint with the JD Set in Glasgow IAN McCULLOCH has admitted that he would love to collaborate with DAVID BOWIE. Ian told DigitalSpy: "I'd love to do one last great David Bowie song. I'd love me and him to do something. I've got songs that I'd love him to sing - it was him and Leonard Cohen. "I just think Bowie was so influential and the greatest solo artist of the 20th Century. In any walk of art. It seems like he's waiting [to release new music]. Maybe his life's just changed." - you can read the whole thing here...

IMAN TO 'DESIGN ON A DIME' FOR CHARITY
19th April 2011

In just three weeks, the largest-ever roster of designers and celebrities will come together for Housing Works' spectacular interior design shopping benefit, DESIGN ON A DIME at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea, New York.

All five of this year's co-chairs, IMAN, Nate Berkus, James Huniford, Charlotte Moss, and Lara Spencer, will attend to raise funds for Housing Works. Housing Works is a non-profit with a mission to end AIDS and homelessness.

Design on a Dime on May 5th features fifty-four of the world's top interior designers. Each designer will create a room vignette using new, donated merchandise, which is then sold for 50% to 70% off retail pricing.

Event sponsors include HomeGoods, Valspar Paint and returning media sponsor Traditional Home. HSBC Private Bank will present an Open House preview hour on opening night from 6pm to 7pm. (Ticket prices start at $500).

"It was an easy decision to get involved with an event like Design on a Dime. The idea that decorating your house can build a home for someone else is just fantastic," said Iman, who is collaborating with Robert Verdi to create her dream boudoir featuring original artwork from DAVID BOWIE.

"The idea that decorating your house can build a home for someone else is just fantastic."

Nate Berkus echoed Iman's comments: "Many New Yorkers know Housing Works as a great thrift store. But, their mission is a serious one, providing care and community for those suffering with HIV/AIDS. I am honoured to join them for Design on a Dime, to raise funds and awareness for the good work they do."

Design on a Dime 2011 benefits Housing Works' Jefferson Avenue Residence Project, a new housing development consisting of 12 permanent units of supportive housing for single, formerly homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS.

KEEP YOUR 'LECTRIC EYE ON EBAY
16th April 2011

Exactly thirty-seven years ago on this very day, the acetate for DAVID BOWIE's Diamond Dogs album was naming this day as the planned release date for the album.

It saw the light of day ten days later on the 24th April 1974.

The mega rare RCA Records master recording made at Sterling Sound Inc in New York is available for you collectors over on eBay.

Diamond Dogs acetate side one Side one of the white label acetate contains just three tracks:

Side two has the more familiar tracklisting:

Diamond Dogs acetate side two      1. Rock & Roll With Me.
     2. We Are The Dead.
     3. 1984.
     4. Big Brother.

You maybe aware that actor WILLIAM SHATNER - most famously known as 'Captain James T. Kirk' of Star Trek fame and the fabulous '$#*! My Dad Says' sitcom - is about to release another album.

The covers album entitled 'Searching For Major Tom' unfortunately doesn't feature DAVID BOWIE performing a guest duet with William (wouldn't that be too cool?), but it does contain David's most iconic space song.

Mr. Shatner has covered 'Space Oddity' which features ex-Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore and Alan Parsons on keyboards.

The full tracklisting along with guest performers runs as:

  01. Space Trucking (Deep Purple) - Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and Johnny Winter (guitar).

  05. Lost In The Stars (Frank Sinatra version) - Ernie Watts (saxophone).
  06. Twilight Zone (Golden Earring) - Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule/Allman Brothers) (guitar).
  07. Space Cowboy (Steve Miller) - Brad Paisley (guitar and vocals).
  08. Rocket Man (Elton John) - Steve Hillage (ex-Gong member) (guitar).
  09. Space Oddity (David Bowie) - Ritchie Blackmore (ex-Deep Purple) (guitar) and Alan Parsons (keyboards).
  10. Spirit In The Sky (Norman Greenbaum) - Peter Frampton (guitar).

JAGGER AND BOWIE FILM?
9th April 2011

Pinch of salt time?... THE SUN newspaper have reported today that MICK JAGGER and DAVID BOWIE are apparently chasing the country's finest comedy talent to star in a film they have been writing for the past fifteen years.

The script tells the tale of a couple of hellraising rock 'n' roll managers set in the mid-Sixties, based on people like Andrew Loog Oldham, who managed The Rolling Stones in their heyday.

According to The Sun, a source said: "Mick has had the script in the bag for years. He has gone back to it again recently and feels now is the time to get it out there.

"Mick has a few famous comedians in mind to star and is starting to sound them out.

"The script is full of stuff from back in the day, which Mick and the band witnessed first hand or heard about on their travels.

"He's well up for a cameo role, to show he's not the serious businessman a lot of people think he is all the time."

Allegedly, Mick is planning to release the film project under his own production company Jagged Films, which he set up in 1995.

You can read the article here via thesun.co.uk

(Ed. There have been several rumours over the years of Jagger and Bowie working on a film collaboration... 'Rocket Boys', 'Sugar' and one based on Shelley and Lord Byron).

Update: I did say take with a pinch of salt - the official word from db is it's 'piffle'.

As you know the The Man Who Fell To Earth is being released on Blu-ray as part of a retrospective of the director Nick Roeg's work at the BFI this month. The cult classic was David Bowie's first major film role and tells the story of an extraterrestrial being who travels to earth to save his own planet from drought. BBC 6 Music's Elizabeth Alker has been finding out more the film, how Bowie was cast and what he was like to work with... ignore the part where she states that some of David's proposed TMWFTE soundtrack ended up on the 'Low' and 'Station To Station' albums... it didn't. For the record the only thing used was reverse bass part from 'Subterraneans' on Low...
