The BBC TWO wildlife programme SPRINGWATCH which airs each evening at 8pm in the UK has something rather strange going on.
One of the presenters CHRIS PACKHAM keeps subtly slipping in DAVID BOWIE song titles during his live commentary.
So far he has managed to squeeze in at least seventeen song titles which were: Changes, Sound and Vision, Cygnet Committee, Aladdin Sane, Watch That Man, Scary Monsters, Kooks, Be My Wife, The Prettiest Star, Sweet Thing, Starman, Speed Of Life, Unwashed and Somewhat Lightly Dazed, Future Legend, Fame, What In The World and Station To Station.
Episode 1 (6 song titles), episode 2 (3 song titles), episode 3 (5 song titles), episode 4 (3 song titles).I've counted at least 11 other unintentional song titles used multiple times that include Sunday, Outside, Amazing, Days, Time, Seven, Stay, Fly, Survive, Move On and Tonight.
You can watch the programme via the BBC iPlayer

The long-awaited memoirs of legendary producer/engineer KEN SCOTT are to be published on Wednesday 6th June.
Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust by Ken Scott and Bobby Owsinski will be published by Alfred Music Publishing.
There's no question that producer/engineer Ken Scott holds a unique place in music history. As one of only five engineers on The Beatles records, Ken's work has left an indelible mark on hundreds of millions of fans with his skilled contributions to Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album. As producer of four David Bowie albums (including the seminal Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars) and two of the biggest-selling Supertramp albums (Crime of the Century and Crisis, What Crisis?), the sound Ken crafted has influenced several generations of music makers that continues to this day.
Those credits alone would be enough to set his name in the annals of music, but that's only a brief slice of what Ken has done. He has literally worked with a who's-who of classic rock acts, including Elton John, Pink Floyd, Procul Harum, Jeff Beck, Duran Duran, Harry Nilsson, The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, America, Devo, Kansas, The Tubes and Missing Persons, among many others. Ken has also played a big part in the world of jazz, being the first to integrate a more powerful rock sound into the genre via albums by Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Dixie Dregs, Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke.
'Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust' shares the intimate memories of Ken Scott about his days working with not only the biggest acts in the world, but some of the most overlooked as well. Funny, poignant, and oh, so honest, Ken pulls no punches as he tells it as he saw it, as corroborated by a host of famous and not-so famous guests who were there as well.
With enough techy 'how we did it' to satisfy all but the geekiest engineers, Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust is a book for the fans, as Ken describes his time with the stars of the day as only a insider can. Plus, you'll be privy to several never-known-before stories and facts that will make the years worth the wait.
National press campaign planned around 40th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust release on 6th June 2012 includes never-before-told stories of The Beatles, David Bowie and Elton John. Many never-before-seen photographs.

Dallas, TX - MAY 29, 2012. North American syndicated rock radio show InTheStudio: The Stories Behind History's Greatest Rock Bands celebrates The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars, a veritable game changer for the course of Rock history. David Bowie had in many ways already shown his chameleon ways from his Mod beginnings to his psuedo-psychedelic folk rock Space Oddity and later with his acoustic inspired Dylan channeling Hunky Dory. But it would be the invention of the cosmic character Ziggy Stardust that would give Bowie mezmerizing control over an otherwise dull musical landscape. David confesses to InTheStudio show host Redbeard what American artists were influencing him at the time.
"I think that the person I was listening to out of America, as much as Little Richard, at the time would have been Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground."
Bowie later goes on to describe the cultural climate that made Ziggy Stardust possible.
"It was a ball of knotty string and there were all these threads running through all of culture, and it really didn't matter which art form it came from, that I felt it could be developed for record and stage and make rock something other than it was at the time."
InTheStudio is syndicated on over 50 radio stations across North America. The David Bowie ZIGGY / InTheStudio programme will air on radio this weekend.

The DAVID BOWIE radio documentary 'Ziggy Changed My Life' is available online via the BBC iPlayer.

Gary finds out how David Bowie created Ziggy, how the album was recorded, how it changed his life and the influence it had, and still has, on several generations of musicians. The programme features interviews with the musicians, artists, designers and producers who recorded and toured with David Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust period.
The show is repeated tonight on the BBC World Service at 2:00 GMT, also on BBC Radio 2 on 6th June at 22:00 GMT.

GENESIS PUBLICATIONS celebrated the UK release of their DAVID BOWIE and MASAYOSHI SUKITA collaboration SPEED OF LIFE with a media book launch at The Arts Club, London, on Tuesday, 8th May. Over 140 members of the press attended, headed by Condé Nast President Nicholas Coleridge, who spoke of his lifelong fascination with David Bowie.
'I don't think I've enjoyed a new Bowie book for years quite as much as 'Speed Of Life'. Everything about it - the Sukita photographs themselves, the production values, the velvet shoe bag the book arrives in, the Bowie autograph on the frontispiece... all adds up to something amazing, to be treasured. An heirloom in fact. I don't actually know what it costs, I expect the same price as a small car. And you know what? It's worth it.' - Nicholas Coleridge, President of Condé Nast International.
In his speech, company director Nick Roylance thanked the authors that have worked with Genesis over their 40-year history, including Jimmy Page, Geoff MacCormack, Aninha Capaldi and Ross Halfin, who were all present at the event. Gary Kemp and Alex Zane also joined the mix of Bowie's friends and fans in toasting their newest publication.
As well as 'Speed For Life' and a range of their classic titles, a prototype of the upcoming Lou Reed limited edition 'Transformer' was available for guests to view.
If you registered your interested in 'Speed Of Life' on their website, you should of received your rather lovely eight-page full colour A4 promotional brochure via your letter box.

PREFACE TO PUBLISH BOWIE CELEBRATION BY DYLAN JONES TO COINCIDE WITH 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ICONIC TOP OF THE POPS 'STARMAN' BROADCAST.
Preface Publisher Trevor Dolby has bought world rights to When Ziggy Played Guitar: David Bowie and Four Minutes that Shook the World by Dylan Jones from Ed Victor at Ed Victor Ltd.
For each generation there are certain moments that become cultural turning points. For Dylan Jones, the urbane, influential long-standing editor of GQ magazine, and many others of his generation, they will pick out the same moment. July 6th 1972 at 7.25 and 33 seconds. Top of the Pops. When David Bowie sang Starman in the guise of Ziggy Stardust.
With a tall, flame-orange cockade quiff (stolen from a Kansai Yamamoto model on the cover of Honey), lavishly applied make-up, white nail polish, and wearing a multi-coloured jump-suit that looked as though it were made from fluorescent fish skin (chosen by Ziggy co-shaper, the designer Freddie Burretti), and carrying a brand spanking new blue acoustic guitar, Bowie appeared not so much as a pop singer, but rather as some sort of benevolent alien. Suddenly Bowie - a man called Alias - had the world at his nail-varnished fingertips, and in no time at all he would be the biggest star in the world.
When Ziggy Played Guitar will be published just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the broadcast on 6th July. Dylan Jones has had unique access and the book will be illustrated with previously unseen photographs.
Dolby said: 'I was in the Wolseley in Piccadilly with the editor of GQ moaning that we had known each other nearly twenty years and where the f**k had the time gone. As blokes do - remember Robert Redford in The Way We Were? - we started 'Best concert? Best single? Best album? Best Debbie Harry moment?...' When Dylan announced that above all the key moment in his and his mate Tony Parson's youth was 6th July 1972 at 7.25pm. I leapt from my seat, 'David Bowie sings Starman on TOTPs!' I shouted, and When Ziggy Played Guitar was born...'
Dylan Jones is the multi-award winning Editor of GQ magazine. He has been an editor at i-D magazine, The Face, Arena, The Observer and The Sunday Times. He writes for the Mail on Sunday, is a Vice President of the Hay Festival and a board member of the Norman Mailer Foundation. He has written ten books and is currently working with U2 on a book celebrating their record-breaking 360 Tour, due from Preface late 2012.
When Ziggy Played Guitar will be published in hardback next month on 28th June 2012.

The 90-minute programme 'Lights! Camera! Action! Tales of Television Centre' is to be broadcast on BBC Four on Thursday 17th May at 9pm.
Directed and produced by Richard Marson, this feature-length documentary tells the story of one of Britain's most iconic buildings as the BBC prepares to leave it.
The story is told by both staff and stars, and as well as a wealth of anecdotes and revelations, there is a rich variety of memorable, rarely seen (and in some cases newly recovered) archive material, including moments from studio recordings of classic programmes like Vanity Fair, Till Death Us Do Part, Top of the Pops and Dr Who, plus a host of vintage behind-the-scenes footage offering a compelling glimpse into this wonderful and eccentric studio complex - home to so many of the most celebrated programmes in British TV history.
There are actually two versions of the programme - a post-watershed version and a pre-watershed version. The former has various adult words and anecdotes, whereas the latter has these replaced with some additional material and archive. The pre-watershed version will be shown whenever the documentary is scheduled before 9pm.
I'm told that DAVID BOWIE's 1972 Top Of The Pops performance of 'The Jean Genie' will be shown in its entirety with no commentary or captions via the RED BUTTON (Channel 301).
Update: Apparently the TOTP performance 'The Jean Genie' will NOT now be shown. According to the Producer/Director: "It won't be shown, sadly. That was the intention when the story of the discovery of the clip and the reason behind its retention was part of the documentary. This had to be cut when the clip was passed on to TOTP2 for screening at Christmas."

Hello Bowie's fans,
I am a 20 year-old Illustration student at London University of Arts and I am doing this project about a person, who we think changed British culture in some way. Of course, I have chosen DAVID BOWIE. I am concentrating on the early 70's UK society's life and mentality and I want to emphasis Bowie's huge input on breaking the boundaries of what was so thought 'normal' and 'inappropriate' back then in the 70's.
My plan is to find those original true British Bowie fans, who were in their teens by the time the iconic Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane and The Thin White Duke emerged. I want to collect their memories, stories, photos, opinions and experiences from those times. Maybe you dyed your hair red? Maybe your Dad was annoyed by Bowie's music? How did your friends, neighbours and the whole public react to your idol?
I've been really struggling finding that kind of person. Anything you (or maybe your friends who were fans as well) could write me would be so helpful and you would take a part of this project.
So if you would consider in helping me, please, email me at and I will CONTACT you. This really will not take more than 15 minutes and you would help me so much.
I would so appreciate this, I feel this could be such a meaningful and beautiful project!
Best wishes, Adele Sasnauskaite.

U.K. RELEASE DATE: JUNE 4, 2012
U.S. RELEASE DATE: JUNE 5, 2012
EMI is excited to announce the release of a 40th anniversary edition of David Bowie's truly groundbreaking and hugely influential album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars.
Originally released through RCA Victor on 6th June 1972, Ziggy Stardust was David Bowie's fifth album, co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. Incredibly, the album was written whilst Bowie was recording 1971's Hunky Dory album, with recording beginning a couple of months before that album's release. It was recorded at Trident Studios, London between 8th November 1971 and 4th February 1972, with the line up: Mick Ronson (guitar, piano, backing vocals, string arrangements), Trevor Bolder (bass), Mick Woodmansey (drums), Rick Wakeman (keyboards) and backing vocals on 'It Ain't Easy' by Dana Gillespie. As well as performing vocals, Bowie also played acoustic guitar, saxophone and harpsichord on the album and was involved in the arrangements, too.
The album eventually peaked at #5 on the UK Album Chart on 22nd July having entered the chart at #15 on 1st July. Key to the album's rise in the UK were the two TV performances of 'Starman' on Granada TV's Lift Off With Ayshea and nationally on the BBC's Top Of The Pops. The album's influence is immeasurable - it converted legions of fans, becoming the zeitgeist and a major influence on the next generation, particular those who were involved in the punk movement - musicians, artists, designers - and the subsequent re-birth of rock and pop.
Famously Bowie killed Ziggy at his peak at London's Hammersmith Odeon, on July 3rd, 1973, though Ziggy Stardust's influence was to redefine popular culture forever: pop music was never the same again.
This 40th anniversary edition has been remastered by original Trident Studios engineer Ray Staff (at London's Air Studios). It will be available on CD and a special, limited edition format of vinyl featuring the new 2012 remaster with a 5.1 mix and high resolution audio on DVD - the DVD features previously unreleased 5.1 and stereo bonus 2003 Ken Scott mixes of Moonage Daydream (instrumental), The Supermen, Velvet Goldmine and Sweet Head.

After the highly succesful 'Speed Of Life - David Bowie 65' event in Holland on January 7th, which Echo Bowie organised with International David Bowie Fanclub The Voyeur, the band is taking the show to clubs and festivals in Holland this month.
Where possible the band will do the full stage show including the lights and the lovely visuals by Robert Muda. And as can be expected by Echo Bowie - the setlist will feature some surprises. Singer Hans Schlatman: 'We aim to perform some acoustic songs each gig, which gives us the opportunity to perform songs like Andy Warhol, Loving The Alien, Seven and even Bus Stop in stripped down versions. We pick different ones each gig to keep it fresh for both the audience and us'.
The upcoming dates are:
May 17th: Vijverparkfestival, Brunssum, Holland.
May 19th: De Piek, Vlissingen, Holland. Starts 21.00 hrs. Echo Bowie performs 'Speed Of Life - David Bowie 65'.
May 26th: Buttonpop, Lisse, Holland. Starts 13.00 hrs. Echo Bowie performs 'Speed Of Life - David Bowie 65'
