MORE 'MOON' DETAILS
20th June 2008

Moon movie poster Upcoming movie MOON the first major directed by DUNCAN JONES, the son of DAVID BOWIE and starring Sam Rockwell is scheduled for a release on 25th May 2009.

Quiet Earth have found the first poster and few more details of the plot have emerged.

Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) is nearing the end of his contract with Lunar. He's been a faithful employee for three long years. His home has been Selene, a moon base where he has spent his days alone, mining Helium 3. The precious gas holds the key to reversing the Earth's energy crisis.

Isolated, determined and steadfast, Sam has followed the rulebook obediently and his time on the moon has been enlightening, but uneventful. The solitude has given him time to reflect on the mistakes of his past and work on his raging temper. He does his job mechanically, and spends most of his available time dreaming of his imminent return to Earth, to his wife, young daughter and an early retirement.

But 2 weeks shy of his departure from Selene, Sam starts seeing things, hearing things and feeling strange. And when a routine extraction goes horribly wrong, he discovers that Lunar have their own plans for replacing him and the new recruit is eerily familiar.

Before he can return to Earth, Sam has to confront himself and the discovery that the life he has created, may not be his own. It's more than his contract that is set to expire.

MALTAZARD IS BACK
20th June 2008

In an interview with SCI FI Channel's SCI FI Wire, child star Freddie Highmore says that he recently laid down his last voice tracks for two upcoming sequels to French filmmaker Luc Besson's largely animated 2006 family film Arthur and The Invisibles. Based on Besson's own series of children's books, 'Arthur and The Vengeance of Maltazard' is slated to hit theaters in 2009, followed by 'Arthur and The Two Worlds War' possibly in 2010.

The live-action portions of the movies were shot more than a year ago, and time was of the essence as producers wanted to get Highmore's voice recording sessions completed before the 16-year-old actor's voice changed too much. Also returning to the voice cast for the second and third instalments are DAVID BOWIE, Madonna, Snoop Dogg, Jewel, Robert De Niro and Harvey Keitel.

Made for around $86 million, the first Arthur pic was the most expensive European animated feature at the time it came out. It grossed $113 million worldwide.

BOWIE'S ON SALE AGAIN!
11th June 2008

Long-time DAVID BOWIE UK fan GOUSTER has taken the painful decision to part with a large part of his Bowie collection which he has starting listing on eBay.co.uk.

Although he's not fully decided which items to let go, he expects it to be the majority of items which he has collected over the past 36 years.

Obviously, it's a vast collection which includes numerous rarities from pre-RCA years, foreign releases, promos, posters, photos, magazines etc.

Initially, he will list vinyl starting with LPs and 12" singles - the majority of these will probably be his back-up copies which means that they have never been played and will be in mint condition.

Unfortunately, he doesn't have any lists etc because he simply has too much stuff. However, if people have any specific wants they can also contact him via e-mail address @ and you may be able to work something out. Because, of other commitments he will only be able to list so many items on eBay each day, therefore it is likely to go on for some time.

Head on over to eBay.co.uk and do an advanced search for items for sale by gouster where there are around 100 items so far.

BBC SIGNS ARCHIVE FOOTAGE DEAL WITH EMI
10th June 2008

THE TIMES have reported today that the BBC have signed an archive footage deal with EMI...

The BBC will make available to EMI all its television and radio archives of the record company’s acts in a five-year agreement under which the two will also collaborate on television productions.

Highlights of the BBC archive include behind-the-scenes footage of DAVID BOWIE's 1974 Diamond Dogs tour , which will be released for sale in CD, DVD and downloadable formats. A BBC Omnibus documentary crew filmed the tour in a period when the singer was using cocaine. The result was the film Cracked Actor.

EMI paid an unspecified advance for access to the BBC catalogue. EMI, which is heavily indebted after a takeover by Terra Firma, the private equity firm, is desperate to exploit its music catalogue as a way to boost profits. The company believes that marquee acts such as Pink Floyd and David Bowie could generate a steady, reliable income stream along the lines of the stable profits that it enjoys from its share of songwriter royalties.

HE'S GOT MORE CHANNELS
9th June 2008

The POPMATTERS website throws twenty questions at THOMAS DOLBY... here's one of them...

Q: The creative masterpiece you wish bore your signature?

Side 2 of Low by DAVID BOWIE. Speaking of Heroes (!) and Eno... Bowie is one hero I've met that did not disappoint. He was a total gentleman, and very smart and funny, as well. I played with him at Live Aid at Wembley. We had almost no rehearsal, and I was petrified. I had to open the set with the solo piano intro of 'TVC15', which is pushing the boundaries of my ability. But somehow, staring out across those tens of thousands of people, my adolescent muscle memory just kicked in and my fingers played themselves.

Low was the most influential of all Bowie's albums. It was a complete revolution. The first time electronic music techniques had really been applied to pop music. And Side 2 was effectively the first time ambient music hit the mainstream. Plus the album was laden with hits like 'Sound and Vision'.

MAIYSHA CHANNELS HER INNER BOWIE
5th June 2008

Maiysha Channels Her Inner Bowie On 'This Much Is True...

New York, NY. (Top40 Charts/ Shore Fire Media) - DAVID BOWIE is one of the biggest influences on progressive soul siren Maiysha's debut album 'This Much Is True:' (August 26th - Eusonia/UFO), which is why she was thrilled when veteran Bowie bassist GAIL ANN DORSEY joined her for a recent NYC showcase.

"Gail has played with many musicians I admire, so it was an honor that she wanted to work with us for this performance," says Maiysha.

"The Bowie connection is especially exciting- Bowie was one of my earliest musical idols for albums like 'Ziggy Stardust,' 'Let's Dance,' and 'Young Americans'. 'Young Americans' actually had special meaning for me because another one of my idols, Luther Vandross, co-wrote 'Fascination' and helped with the vocal arrangements on that record."

"Bowie's ability to take on different personas, experiment musically, and show off many sides of his personality inspired my musical path," continues Maiysha. "Every song on 'This Much is True' reflects a different facet of my character, and I'm not locked into any one niche - lyrically or musically. I can thank Bowie for driving me to constantly reinvent my sound, incorporating everything from swing music to rock to classic soul to drum and bass on my album."

The combination has worked spectacularly - Newsweek declared that Maiysha's "soulful sound incorporates hip-hop, jazz, and funk that is just as comfortable on the dance floor as at a backyard barbecue". Hip-hop journalist Will Dawson also got a taste of Maiysha's NYC showcase and raved that she "let loose with soaring vocals that literally rocked the packed studio with a mix of rock, soul, jazz and funk."

EMI Marketing will officially release David Bowie, Live Santa Monica '72 on June 30th. Recorded at Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, Los Angeles on October 20th 1972 during the first leg of the Ziggy Stardust US tour. Over the last 36 years this historic recording has only been occasionally available as a bootleg. For many, ownership of this concert was regarded as a true test of being a 'proper Bowie fan'. This powerful, galvanizing show allows a more than 70 minute glimpse into the earliest nationwide live radio exposure granted David and the Spiders.

David Bowie says:- "I can tell that I'm totally into being Ziggy by this stage of our touring. It's no longer an act; I am him. This would be around the tenth American show for us and you can hear that we are all pretty high on ourselves. We train wreck a couple of things, I miss some words and sometimes you wouldn't know that pianist Mike Garson was onstage with us but overall I really treasure this bootleg. Mick Ronson is at his blistering best."

Santa Monica CD tracklisting:

In 1972, David Bowie set out on his first US tour. He'd recently introduced the world to his Ziggy Stardust persona with his top 5 album 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars' and had completed a hugely successful UK tour. The Santa Monica concert, David's first live US radio broadcast, was aired live on KMET in L.A. and was immediately a fan bootleg favourite. The set list is compiled primarily from the 'Hunky Dory' and 'Ziggy Stardust' albums and features two covers, Jacques Brel's 'My Death' and the Velvet Underground's 'Waiting For The Man', alongside the awesome power of 'The Man Who Sold The World' centrepiece 'The Width Of A Circle' (this version is a ten and a half minute sonic assault) and an 'Aladdin Sane' previewing 'The Jean Genie'.

The set list is also quite different from the Ziggy terminating 'Ziggy Stardust - The Motion Picture Soundtrack,' available on CD via EMI along with its counterpart concert film on DVD.

Accompanying David was The Spiders From Mars: Mick Ronson - guitar, vocals, Trevor Bolder - bass, Mick "Woody" Woodmansey - drums and Mike Garson - piano.

This is David Bowie at the pinnacle of his creative power - in 1981 NME critics called it, "(quite simply)... the performer's, and one of rock's, best ever bootlegs."

The CD will initially be released as a limited edition with special packaging featuring shots taken at the actual gig for the first time.

The double LP set will be a numbered limited edition on 180 gram heavyweight vinyl; a must for collectors.

You can pre-order Live Santa Monica '72 NOW.
