BBC MAKE LOU'S DAY!
18th September 1997

The BBC aired for the first time last evening, their excellent new commercial based around LOU REED'S 'Perfect Day' song.

David features in two clips beautifully singing the lines... "Just a perfect day" and "You made me forget myself". Other celebrities also featured in the commercial amongst others are: LOU REED, BONO, ELTON JOHN, THE LIGHTNING SEEDS and BRETT ANDERSON.

The stars had given their time to collaborate in a one-off recording, singing lines from the song individually, rather than in a chorus. They all also waived their usual fees in a genuine demonstration of support for the BBC and its ongoing commitment to presenting creative and innovative music in this, its 75th anniversary year.

Lou Reed said: "I have never been more impressed with a performance of one of my songs. I would like to thank the BBC for making this Perfect Day perfect."

David added: "It's a way of saying thank you for the Flower Pot Men."

Visit the BBC web site for more information.

Due to an overwhelming demand a single version should be released sometime in December according to the BBC.

NEW ALBUM & I'M AFRAID OF AMERICANS
13th September 1997

DAVID BOWIE is set to work with GOLDIE and Nine Inch Nail's TRENT REZNOR for his next album.

Bowie said he was "pretty excited" at the prospect of working with the pair and told Internet magazine Jam!: "They're two of the people who I feel are real giants at what they do."

The partnership with the NIN frontman was sealed after Reznor remixed 'I'm Afraid Of Americans', a track from Bowie's 'Earthling' album. Bowie said of the remix: "It has something very Nails-ish about it. It's something I could aspire to, but not something I could come up with myself. I would always overload it with arty pretensions. He really strips it away. It's very masculine."

'I'm Afraid Of Americans' will be released later this month in the States although a UK release has yet to be confirmed.

DAVID IN PALLANT HOUSE PEEP SHOW
11th September 1997

David Bowie in Pallant House Peep Show, Pallant House, 9 North Pallant, Chichester. Tel: 01243 774557.

Tues-Sat 10-5.15pm. Last admission 4.45pm. Admission £2.50 adults, £2.00 concessions, £1.50 students. Children free.

The Model Modern Art Gallery (1934) was the brain child of Sidney Burney, a progressive but sadly forgotten gallery owner who mounted excellent exhibitions in the 1930s.

Burney asked leading artists of the day to produce tiny works for a miniature model gallery - a "doll's house", sized 6x6 foot. Go along to Chichester's Pallant House and peek at this rare microcosm of modern English painting and sculpture with works with Barbara Hepworth, Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Henry Moore and many others. Burney's idea has been brought bang up to date with some of today's leading artists, including David Bowie, Beryl Cook and Anthony Green, showing small works (max 8ins x 8ins) alongside the Model Gallery.

The contribution by David is entitled 'Monking'

PUFF DADDY SINGLE

"David - Do you wanna part exchange it with a 3 bedroomed semi in Manchester?"

GOLDIE INTERVIEW - MIXMAG MAGAZINE
9th September 1997
Extracts from GOLDIE interview in Mixmag by Matthew Collin

GOLDIE: "I'm a chameleon. I can change shape any time I want. I'm a complicated character. Shapeshifting all the time."

And people want to be part of that, to vibe off the mad buzz that he puts out, because it's infectious and inclusive: when he's around, you're in his world; no choice about it. This evening, standing ten feet behind him as he concludes his set at the Phoenix Festival, a svelte black goddess sways gently to the groove, her hand intertwined with the fingers of a lanky white cove who drags hard on a fag and pumps his skinny limbs back and forth. It's Iman and David Bowie: they know who's hooked into the primal powerline tonight.

GOLDIE THE ROCK CRITIC:

On David Bowie's new drum n' bass direction:

"I saw Bowie play at Hanover Grand. I think it's really wicked that Bowie can get inspired by what we do. I love the amount of people from any genre coming to check it. I don't think everyone should slate him down 'cos I don't think they have a right to do that. Bowie is Bowie, end of story. I'd fucking produced him, I'd dark him out. He's got something that I could turn out unbelievable."

Goldie's new album 'Saturnz Return' is scheduled for release on October 6th on FFRR Records.

BUDDHA'S BACK
6th September 1997

September sees the re-release of the most underrated Bowie album ever - 'The Buddha Of Suburbia' soundtrack on BMG Records (BMG 74321 170042). If you don't own this album buy it, listen to it three times and I swear you'll be hooked.

Review from Q Magazine by Martin Aston:

Between the back-from-the-dead Black Tie White Noise and the full-flung riskiness of 1. Outside and Earthling came this 1994 soundtrack to a BBC Hanif Kureishi adaptation. Perfectly suited to the novel's subject matter - 1970s' South London backdrop, bisexuality, punk. alienation and survivalism - Bowie did what he does best, shuffling key elements of times past into contemporanity. Almost wholly assisted by multi-instrumentalist Erdal Kizilcay, Bowie's success rate is high: the sashaying, poignant title track (quotes from Space Oddity and All The Madmen) may be his best tracks of the '90s; The Mysteries, Ian Fish and UK Heir's queasy ambience stands up to the Berlin-era instrumentals; South Horizon pitches Mike Garson's tinkly-mad piano over a jazz-funk groove, Bleed Like A Craze Dad is feisty, lock-groove rock-funk and Dead Against It is a restrained, drony little pop nugget in Lodger mode. Arguably Bowie's most satisfying album this decade.

BUDGET BOWIE

"Aladdin Sane for under a tenner? They must be mad!!!"
