Published today by Preface is When Ziggy Played Guitar: David Bowie and Four Minutes that Shook the World by Dylan Jones.
For each generation there are certain moments that become cultural turning points. For Dylan Jones, the urbane, influential long-standing editor of GQ magazine, and many others of his generation, they will pick out the same moment. July 6th 1972 at 7.25 and 33 seconds. Top of the Pops. When David Bowie sang Starman in the guise of Ziggy Stardust.
With a tall, flame-orange cockade quiff (stolen from a Kansai Yamamoto model on the cover of Honey), lavishly applied make-up, white nail polish, and wearing a multi-coloured jump-suit that looked as though it were made from fluorescent fish skin (chosen by Ziggy co-shaper, the designer Freddie Burretti), and carrying a brand spanking new blue acoustic guitar, Bowie appeared not so much as a pop singer, but rather as some sort of benevolent alien. Suddenly Bowie - a man called Alias - had the world at his nail-varnished fingertips, and in no time at all he would be the biggest star in the world.
When Ziggy Played Guitar is published just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the broadcast on 6th July. Dylan Jones has had unique access and the book is illustrated with previously unseen photographs.
You can purchase When Ziggy Played Guitar: David Bowie and Four Minutes that Shook the World NOW and receive a massive 47% discount!

DUNCAN JONES popped the question to his girlfriend RODENE RONQUILLO earlier today and they both announced the news via their Twitter feeds.
Duncan tweeted 'Big day today. Put a ring on it. God help me!!' Later Rodene tweeted 'Even if he is just after a green card, he's all mine now. P.S. Yes, I said 'yes'. On cloud 9 with my most favorite person in the whole world.'
Wonderful news! Congratulations to you both from everyone here at BowieWonderworld.

There was an excellent piece published in THE GUARDIAN yesterday... 'How We Made: Paul Mayersberg and Tony Richmond on The Man Who Fell To Earth' which starred DAVID BOWIE as alien Thomas Jerome Newton.
Interviewed by Phil Hoad, screenwriter Paul Mayersberg gives some interesting comments and views, along with cinematographer Tony Richmond who lets it be known that... 'We had pig's blood lined up for a surgery scene but Bowie objected - so we used mine'!
You can read the whole article over on the guardian.co.uk website.
Massive Bowie-fan Robert 'Bodie' Bowman and his friend Steve Brown have just recorded a fundraising album entitled 'Songs For Dawn' which features ten DAVID BOWIE cover songs.
All proceeds from the sale of the album will be split between the three Scottish hospitals who have kept Bodie's two-year-old daughter Dawn alive.
Baby Dawn was born with meningitis and a cleft palate and thanks to the three Infirmaries she is making great progress.
Every single penny raised will go directly to the sick kids' units at the three hospitals in Inverness, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
Please visit songsfordawn.org where you can make a donation by purchasing the album and give your support over at facebook.com/songsfordawn
Many thanks from Davie.

9:00pm - David Bowie and the Story of Ziggy Stardust (1 hour Documentary). The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is arguably the most important album in the David Bowie's career, the record that set him on course to becoming one of the best-known pop stars on the planet. Bowie's messianic Martian invaded the minds of the nation's youth with a combination of extraterrestrial rock 'n' roll and outrageous sexuality, all delivered in high-heeled boots, multi-coloured dresses and extravagant make-up. This documentary tells the story of how Bowie arrived at one of the most iconic creations in pop history. Ziggy's instant success gave the impression that he was the perfectly-planned pop star, but it had been a momentous struggle for Bowie to hit on just the right formula. Narrated by Jarvis Cocker, it reveals Bowie's mission to the stars through the musicians and colleagues who helped him in his quest for fame - a musical voyage that led Bowie to doubt his true identity, eventually forcing the sudden demise of his alien alter ego, Ziggy. (Stereo, Widescreen, Subtitles, Audio Described).
10:00pm - The Genius of David Bowie (1 hour Documentary). A selection of some of David Bowie's best performances from the BBC archives, which also features artists who Bowie helped along the way, such as Mott the Hoople, Lulu, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed. (Stereo, Widescreen, Subtitles).
11:00pm - Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars: Storyville. Classic rock film documenting David Bowie's last public appearance as his androgynous alter ego Ziggy Stardust. This memorable final concert at the Hammersmith Odeon was filmed by DA Pennebaker, famous for such 1960s rock documentaries as Don't Look Back and Monterey Pop. The 17 songs performed include Changes, Time and Suffragette City. Director: D.A. Pennebaker. (Stereo, Repeat, Widescreen, Subtitles).
12:30am - David Bowie at the BBC (1 hour Documentary). David Bowie in concert at the BBC Radio Theatre. Songs include Wild is the Wind, Ashes to Ashes, Absolute Beginners, The Man Who Sold the World and Fame. (Stereo, Subtitles).
Also on Monday 11th June the RADCLIFFE AND MACONIE SHOW features David Bowie's drummer WOODY WOODMANSEY talking about the 40th anniversary re-issue of The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars on BBC Radio 6 Music at 13:00.
Don't forget that the NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS have published a DAVID BOWIE Anniversary Special magazine which features David on the front cover.
There are TWO different collectible covers. Featured inside are eleven-pages, forty years on... NME celebrates the genius of Ziggy Stardust... the album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars, and also band members The Spiders From Mars speak!...
Both covers are available now at all the usual outlets.
The NME quite rightly state: 'Quite simply, David Bowie is the greatest living British musician of all time ever, and '...Ziggy...' is his best album. So 40 years on, we take a look back at it, to assess how important it is, and speak the only people who were there making it with Bowie, the Spiders From Mars.'
You can also pop on over to the NME website where you can vote for The Greatest David Bowie song.
Matt from The Greenwich Visitor recently visited the, what was once, UNDERHILL STUDIO in Greenwich, London, where DAVID BOWIE and The Spiders rehearsed Ziggy Stardust.
He has made a short film of the visit - hope you all like it...

According to several newspapers and various websites pop culture artist BANKSY is believed to have created his own tribute for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in his home-town of Bristol.
As you can see Her Majesty has been blessed with the DAVID BOWIE character Aladdin Sane lightning bolt.
Although this piece is sited on a wall previously used by the street artist on Upper Maudlin Street, the actual piece entitled Still Sane was created by INCWEL from the Wooster Collective and not Banksy.
This summer PALLANT HOUSE GALLERY in Chichester, West Sussex will be holding a season of exhibitions celebrating the links between art and pop music. It will include DEREK BOSHIER's drawings, paintings and studies relating to DAVID BOWIE's 'Lodger' and 'Let's Dance' albums, as well as maquettes for Bowie's stage sets.
There will be an exhibition to mark the 80th birthday of the Pop artist Sir Peter Blake, exploring his paintings of musicians and designs for album covers ranging from The Beatles' 'Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' to Live Aid, Paul Weller 'Stanley Road, Oasis' 'Stop the Clocks' and the 2012 Brit Award.
Alongside they will be holding an exhibition highlighting the artworks created by pop musicians, bringing together works by some of the most celebrated figures in the music industry. The exhibition will explore the fact that many musicians studied at art school, and amongst the selection we are including artworks by musicians such as Ian Dury, Bryan Ferry, John Squire, Pete Doherty, Bill Wyman and Humphrey Ocean. Each of the musicians to be featured in the show has used visual art as an important creative outlet. Encompassing a variety of media that includes album cover artwork and illustrated lyrics, it will explore how design has been employed alongside songwriting and live performance as a key part of their artistic careers.Derek Boshier: David Bowie and The Clash opens on Saturday 23rd June and runs through to 7th October.
Venue:
Pallant House Gallery, 9 North Pallant, Chichester, West Sussex PO19 1TJ, England.
Showing in Galleries 15 and 16.
Opening Hours:
Tuesday to Saturday: 10am - 5pm.
Thursday: 10am - 8pm.
Sunday and Bank Holidays: 11am - 5pm.
Mondays: CLOSED.
Also Derek Boshier will be in conversation with writer and author Paul Gorman at Pallant House Gallery on Thursday 28th June at 6pm.
Derek Boshier first came to prominence with his paintings as a student at the Royal College of Art in London in the early 1960s, with fellow students David Hockney, Allen Jones, R.B. Kitaj, and others in the British Pop Art movement. In 1962 he was featured with Peter Blake, Pauline Boty and Peter Phillips in Ken Russell's BBC documentary 'Pop Goes The Easel'.
During the 1970s Boshier experimented with different media, producing photographs, films, collages, constructions, books, posters and record covers. This exhibition focusses on his graphic work for pop musicicians such as his designs for David Bowie's 1979 'Lodger' album and the Clash 2nd Songbook 1979.
Derek Boshier: "The cover for 'Lodger' was a collaboration between David, the photographer Brian Duffy, and myself. I loved this solution to the problem of David being photographed falling. Shooting him from above, on a specially made table built to match the falling form. The table was designed to be completely obscured by David's body (You can see the table in the photograph right centre on the inside of the book-style cover). The wash hand basin was laid underneath the table on the floor." (D.B. 2003).
The cover for Bowie's subsequent 'Let's Dance' album included the projection of a Boshier painting across David Bowie's figure in boxing gloves. The inner sleeve of 'Let's Dance' had line drawings by Boshier including his characteristic heads and walking figures.
David commissioned Boshier for his stage shows in 1978. A logical continuation of Boshier's fascination with installation and environment.

The long-awaited memoirs of legendary producer/engineer KEN SCOTT are to be published on Wednesday 6th June.
Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust by Ken Scott and Bobby Owsinski will be published by Alfred Music Publishing.
There's no question that producer/engineer Ken Scott holds a unique place in music history. As one of only five engineers on The Beatles records, Ken's work has left an indelible mark on hundreds of millions of fans with his skilled contributions to Magical Mystery Tour and The White Album. As producer of four David Bowie albums (including the seminal Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars) and two of the biggest-selling Supertramp albums (Crime of the Century and Crisis, What Crisis?), the sound Ken crafted has influenced several generations of music makers that continues to this day.
Those credits alone would be enough to set his name in the annals of music, but that's only a brief slice of what Ken has done. He has literally worked with a who's-who of classic rock acts, including Elton John, Pink Floyd, Procul Harum, Jeff Beck, Duran Duran, Harry Nilsson, The Rolling Stones, Lou Reed, America, Devo, Kansas, The Tubes and Missing Persons, among many others. Ken has also played a big part in the world of jazz, being the first to integrate a more powerful rock sound into the genre via albums by Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham, Dixie Dregs, Jeff Beck and Stanley Clarke.
'Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust' shares the intimate memories of Ken Scott about his days working with not only the biggest acts in the world, but some of the most overlooked as well. Funny, poignant, and oh, so honest, Ken pulls no punches as he tells it as he saw it, as corroborated by a host of famous and not-so famous guests who were there as well.
With enough techy 'how we did it' to satisfy all but the geekiest engineers, Abbey Road To Ziggy Stardust is a book for the fans, as Ken describes his time with the stars of the day as only a insider can. Plus, you'll be privy to several never-known-before stories and facts that will make the years worth the wait.
National press campaign planned around 40th anniversary of Ziggy Stardust release on 6th June 2012 includes never-before-told stories of The Beatles, David Bowie and Elton John. Many never-before-seen photographs.

PREFACE TO PUBLISH BOWIE CELEBRATION BY DYLAN JONES TO COINCIDE WITH 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF ICONIC TOP OF THE POPS 'STARMAN' BROADCAST THIS MONTH.
Preface Publisher Trevor Dolby has bought world rights to When Ziggy Played Guitar: David Bowie and Four Minutes that Shook the World by Dylan Jones from Ed Victor at Ed Victor Ltd.
When Ziggy Played Guitar will be published just ahead of the 40th anniversary of the broadcast on 6th July. Dylan Jones has had unique access and the book will be illustrated with previously unseen photographs.
Dolby said: 'I was in the Wolseley in Piccadilly with the editor of GQ moaning that we had known each other nearly twenty years and where the f**k had the time gone. As blokes do - remember Robert Redford in The Way We Were? - we started 'best concert? best single? best album? best Debbie Harry moment?...' When Dylan announced that above all the key moment in his and his mate Tony Parson's youth was 6th July 1972 at 7.25pm. I leapt from my seat, 'David Bowie sings Starman on TOTPs!' I shouted, and When Ziggy Played Guitar was born...'
Dylan Jones is the multi-award winning Editor of GQ magazine. He has been an editor at i-D magazine, The Face, Arena, The Observer and The Sunday Times. He writes for the Mail on Sunday, is a Vice President of the Hay Festival and a board member of the Norman Mailer Foundation. He has written ten books and is currently working with U2 on a book celebrating their record-breaking 360 Tour, due from Preface late 2012.
When Ziggy Played Guitar will be published in hardback this month on 28th June 2012.

U.K. RELEASE DATE: JUNE 4, 2012
U.S. RELEASE DATE: JUNE 5, 2012
EMI is excited to announce the release of a 40th anniversary edition of David Bowie's truly groundbreaking and hugely influential album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars.
Originally released through RCA Victor on 6th June 1972, Ziggy Stardust was David Bowie's fifth album, co-produced by Bowie and Ken Scott. Incredibly, the album was written whilst Bowie was recording 1971's Hunky Dory album, with recording beginning a couple of months before that album's release. It was recorded at Trident Studios, London between 8th November 1971 and 4th February 1972, with the line up: Mick Ronson (guitar, piano, backing vocals, string arrangements), Trevor Bolder (bass), Mick Woodmansey (drums), Rick Wakeman (keyboards) and backing vocals on 'It Ain't Easy' by Dana Gillespie. As well as performing vocals, Bowie also played acoustic guitar, saxophone and harpsichord on the album and was involved in the arrangements, too.
The album eventually peaked at #5 on the UK Album Chart on 22nd July having entered the chart at #15 on 1st July. Key to the album's rise in the UK were the two TV performances of 'Starman' on Granada TV's Lift Off With Ayshea and nationally on the BBC's Top Of The Pops. The album's influence is immeasurable - it converted legions of fans, becoming the zeitgeist and a major influence on the next generation, particular those who were involved in the punk movement - musicians, artists, designers - and the subsequent re-birth of rock and pop.
Famously Bowie killed Ziggy at his peak at London's Hammersmith Odeon, on July 3rd, 1973, though Ziggy Stardust's influence was to redefine popular culture forever: pop music was never the same again.
This 40th anniversary edition has been remastered by original Trident Studios engineer Ray Staff (at London's Air Studios). It will be available on CD and a special, limited edition format of vinyl featuring the new 2012 remaster with a 5.1 mix and high resolution audio on DVD - the DVD features previously unreleased 5.1 and stereo bonus 2003 Ken Scott mixes of Moonage Daydream (instrumental), The Supermen, Velvet Goldmine and Sweet Head.
