DAVID BRIGHTON'S SPACE ODDITY GIGS

Top US DAVID BOWIE tribute act DAVID BRIGHTON's 'Space Oddity' have two special events lined up...

On 28th October they play The Anaheim Fall Festival, Center Street Promenade stage at Center Street and Anaheim Boulevard, Downtown, Anaheim CA, USA. The band perform a ninety-minute show starting at 6:00pm. The carnival and street fair includes rides, an international food court, games and much more. For more information, call 714-956-3586. IT'S THE TERROR OF KNOWING
24th October 2007

UK band KEANE have donated one of their exclusive tracks entitled 'The Night Sky' to raise funds towards WAR CHILD Canada's humanitarian programmes.

Two other tracks are also to be available via digital download on 30th October namely their rather damn good cover version of the QUEEN / DAVID BOWIE collaboration 'Under Pressure', which appeared on the recently released 'Radio 1 Established 1967' compilation 2-CD. The final track is a mix of 'Put It Behind You Now.'

All money raised will go directly to War Child Canada.

"We are very proud to be patrons of War Child," says singer Tom Chaplin. "One child dies every three minutes because of armed conflict, and all of us can do something about it."

US reality television talent contest THE NEXT GREAT AMERICAN BAND will see the remaining 10 bands on Friday 2nd November all perform an original composition as well as a DAVID BOWIE song.

MY HEAD'S IN A WHIRL

'Kuudes Ulottuvus' is a compilation album featuring fifteen bands from the area of Alavus in Finland, containing various styles of rock and pop.

Amongst the tracks are two songs from HEIRLOOM DORK - one being their version of DAVID BOWIE's 1967 single 'Love You Till Tuesday'.

You can listen to a sample of the track by clicking here - click on the 'Listen' button at the base of the tracklisting and choose track 11.

Their other song 'I Pity The Fool' isn't a cover of David's song it's their own composition.

GARSON TINKLES THE IVORIES

Have you heard 'Something Unseen'? It's a brand new recording of a song posted today of MIKE GARSON playing just like old times with an Athens, Georgia band called CHRIS McKAY AND THE CRITICAL DARLINGS (I happen to know a little about them as I am the 'Chris' in the band name!).

The song is about 8 and a half minutes long and Mike really cuts loose especially at the beginning and the end where it gets really crazy. We tried hard to get him to let it go a la DAVID BOWIE's 'Aladdin Sane', 'Time', 'Sweet Thing', 'Lady Grinning Soul' and all of that other cool stuff.

You can decide if it was pulled off. Heck, I've been wanting to hear him play more on an epic rock-style track and since no one else is going to do it, I figured I'd try.

• Over in San Francisco there is a rather cool mural on the back of an architect's office that incorporates DAVID BOWIE lyrics from his 1.Outside album track 'Through These Architect's Eyes' - view here - (from SignalStation)...

• ABC TV in Australia have taken up the BBC Worldwide licence to broadcast the seven 50-minute 'Seven Ages of Rock' documentaries, a BBC/VH1 co-production that charts the music that has defined each generation from the 1960s onwards. It features The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, DAVID BOWIE, The Sex Pistols, Black Sabbath, U2, The Smiths and Oasis...

• DAVID BOWIE tribute band TIGERS ON VASELINE play the Cafe Drummond, 1 Belmont Street, Aberdeen, Scotland on Friday 19th October @ 9.00pm. Tigers on Vaseline are a Scottish phenomenon that has to be experienced. The band has rocketed from a humble 4 piece, strictly acoustic affair to a near reincarnation of Bowie at his 1972-73 zenith. There is no closer a vocal than John O'Brien's crisp cockney cackle that could so easily be lifted from Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust or Aladdin Sane. The band has been very busy this Autumn with a host of dates around Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Further local gigs are booked for the Winter and and trips to Aberdeen, Inverness, Liverpool, Bradford, Cumbria, Blackburn and London are planned. HUTCH SPECIAL GUEST AT VOYEUR MEET
15th October 2007

Some weeks ago we informed you about THE VOYEUR's annual DAVID BOWIE fan (club) meeting next Sunday 21st October.

Today 'The Voyeur' informed us that JOHN 'HUTCH' HUTCHINSON, member of both The Buzz (1966) and Feathers (1968) will perform live at the Bowie meeting.

John, who is touring Holland at this moment, agreed to play an acoustic set of two songs.

John will visit the meeting from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 pm.

The meet up will take between 1:00 pm and 7:00 pm and is held in Amsterdam at the Akhnaton Club on the Nieuwezijds Kolk nr. 25.

This year 'The Voyeur' also contacted two of the best David Bowie cover bands, EchoBowie and All The Young Dudes to perform at the event, complete with DJ for the day Trevor (TVQueenBitch).

KEEP YOUR 'LECTRIC EYE ON EBAY

Those of you with pots of cash might be interested in a large batch of 405 Line video tapes of rare TV archive material from the early 1970's currently up for auction on eBay.

Amongst the tapes listed - one really interesting one for DAVID BOWIE fans is listed as 'Tape 33' totp 4/1/73.

You can find on BW all of David Bowie's appearances from Top Of The Pops - you'll notice that David appeared live on this show performing 'The Jean Genie'. This live performance was wiped from the BBC archives and all that remained was an audio cassette recording.

Hang on there's more... also listed in the tapes is 'Tape 41' Lift Off With Ayshea 14/6/72 where David performed 'Starman' live on television for the first time ever.

And one more... 'Tape 39' should contain the BBC made promo for 'The Laughing Gnome' that was used on their 500th edition show.

The highest bid is already up to £204.99. View the eBay listing here.

Hopefully these tapes 'very possibly' do contain the Holy Grail of lost Bowie performances and fingers crossed they end up in the public domain.

DAVID BOWIE BOX SET

Update: Scheduled release date is now 3rd December...

DAVID BOWIE's last five albums will be re-released as the 'David Bowie Box Set' on ~~27th November~~ via ISO/Columbia (88697169032).

The albums 1.Outside, Earthling, 'hours...', Heathen and Reality will be included in the set with each album having a bonus disc of rare tracks and will be housed in vinyl replica digipaks.

These two-disc editions, which were originally compiled for international markets, are now making their US debuts in this package. The complete box set features ten discs.

On 'Outside' the bonus cuts include several mixes of 'The Hearts Filthly Lesson' and 'Hallo Spaceboy', plus the non-album tracks 'Get Real' and 'Nothing To Be Desired'.

Earthling features remixes of 'Little Wonder', 'I'm Afraid Of Americans', 'Dead Man Walking' and 'Telling Lies', along with the Tao Jones Index versions of 'V-2 Schneider' and 'Pallas Athena'.

'hours...' extras are remixes of album tracks from Beck and Marius DeVries, four B-sides and the alternate version of 'The Pretty Things Are Going to Hell' from the film 'Stigmata'.

The bonus cuts for 'Heathen' and 'Reality' are highlighted by remixes from Moby and Air, a cover of The Kinks' 'Waterloo Sunset' and an outtake of the vintage track 'Panic in Detroit'.

THE BARNBROOK BIBLE

DAVID BOWIE has written the foreword 'Three Paragraphs' to the recently published JONATHAN BARNBROOK publication 'Barnbrook Bible: The Graphic Design of Jonathan Barnbrook'.

The Barnbrook Bible - which took five years to complete - is a comprehensive re-engineering of the designer's back catalogue, beginning with his student work and coming up to date with his Adbusters involvement.

Jonathan designed the typefaces for Bowie's 'Heathen' and 'Reality' albums, and also designed the Iman book 'I Am Iman'.

Book Description: Known for his revolutionary typefaces, Jonathan Barnbrook is the most sought after contemporary graphic designer working across a broad range of disciplines including graphic design, industrial design, typeface design and film. In this first book by and about him, The Barnbrook Bible features a great deal of never-before-seen work - much of which was created specifically for the book.

Possibly best known as a result of his collaboration with major figures in the international art scene such as the Saatchi Gallery, Damien Hirst and David Bowie, Barnbrook has won numerous awards for motion graphics for his commercial film work. His most celebrated collaboration includes art directing Adbusters, the leading activist magazine. He also produces copyright-free work that highlights political and social injustices.

This, Bowie's 19th studio album from 1993, is one of his personal favourites. The music differs significantly to the motif driven small pieces that he wrote for the TV mini series of the same name. Instead Bowie took lots of narrative provocation from Hanif Kureishi's novel and alongside his own personal reminiscences from the 1970's created a textural backdrop to create an amazing brand new album that is well worth discovering.
