'Lose' is the brand new album by CYMBALS EAT GUITARS released recently at the end of August.
Yeah? So what's this to do with DAVID BOWIE I hear you ask...
Well, the second track entitled 'Warning', which to me has a lovely NIN vibe going on, contains the immortal line:
'And you're looking mighty ghostly just like Bowie on Soul Train'.
This is their 3rd studio album and it's rather damn good. Take a listen here...
On this day, 41 years ago, DAVID BOWIE released his Pinups album in 1973, featuring cover versions of some of his favourite songs from the '64-'67 period London club scene.
One of his original ideas for this album was to reinforce the evocation of times past by also linking in his own song 'The London Boys'...
DB: "Probably half a verse will be used between songs. It will be a newly recorded version. That dates from the first Deram album. It's about a young boy who comes up to London, gets pilled out of his head, all those things.
"I used to do that - get dressed up, go up to town on Friday night, see what was going on, stay for the night."
• On this day, 12 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed at Jimmy's Bronx Cafe in New York in 2002. This was one of the five shows performed at each of New York City's boroughs. David named this part of The Heathen World Tour, 'The New York Marathon Tour'. He remarked: "I could get home from all the gigs on roller skates."...
• On this day, 41 years ago, DAVID BOWIE moved into a rented house located at 89 Oakley Street, Chelsea, London SW3 5NP. He lived there for less than 6 months before leaving for the USA in April 1974. The rental agreement was ended on 16th December 1974. Today, the property has an estimated value of £6m and a rental value of £28,000 pcm...
• This week, Brooklyn, NY's sludge/black/post metallers TOMBS presented a video for their haunting cover version of DAVID BOWIE / BRIAN ENO's "Heroes". The video was directed by Jaclyn Sheer and Samantha Astolfi. Tombs covered the song in 2012 with the German vocals provided by Ralph Schmidt - [View here]...
• Tweet of the Week: @DylanJonesGQ: Fell asleep listening to Bowie's 'Sue' and woke up in 1940s New York. Not only that, I could only see in black and white. Very odd indeed...
As you can see DAVID BOWIE graces the front cover of this week's NME magazine.
Inside, there are a total of ten-pages of David, including a Dan Stubbs feature on the new Nothing Has Changed release.
There is also a special feature of 'His Real Greatest Hits' - as decided by the NME, with a little help from Thurston Moore, Wild Beasts, Johnny Marr, St. Vincent, Temples and Anna Calvi and more. Also there's an NME exclusive containing the original lyric sheets handwritten by David Bowie.

To be published in December 2014, is BOWIE'S PIANO MAN: THE LIFE OF MIKE GARSON by CLIFFORD SLAPPER (Hardback Edition ISBN: 978-1-78196-131-5).
"It is pointless to talk about his ability as a pianist. He is exceptional. However, there are very, very few musicians, let alone pianists, who naturally understand the movement and free thinking necessary to hurl themselves into experimental or traditional areas of music, sometimes, ironically, at the same time. Mike does this with such enthusiasm that it makes my heart glad just to be in the same room with him." - David Bowie on Mike Garson.
Synopsis: Mike Garson has played piano on sixteen David Bowie albums, including Aladdin Sane, with his celebrated piano solo on its title track, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, 1. Outside and Reality. He has also played live with Bowie on countless tours and shows, and remains his most long-standing and frequent band member.
For some time Clifford Slapper has been working very closely with Garson to write a book which explores the life of this extraordinary and eccentric modern musician. It documents in detail how as a pianist he was catapulted overnight from the obscure world of New York's avant-garde jazz scene to a close and long connection with Bowie. In addition, Garson is recognised as a classical virtuoso, a jazz master and one of the world's greatest exponents of improvisation. He has also recorded and performed live with other rock legends such as The Smashing Pumpkins and Nine Inch Nails. All of this is covered by this first ever biography of Mike Garson.
Its starting point was several days of in-depth and frank conversation with Garson himself, and covers a wide range of themes which will be of interest to all Bowie fans, but also to anyone with a passion for music, social history or the process of creative inspiration. Input has also come from many interviews with those who have worked with him over the years, including Earl Slick, Trent Reznor, Sterling Campbell, Reeves Gabrels, Dave Liebman and many others.
About the Author: Clifford Slapper is a musician and writer. After a degree in history from London University followed by various roles in education, he became one of the most sought after pianists in the UK, having performed with David Bowie, Boy George, Suggs, Lisa Stansfield, Jarvis Cocker, Galen Ayers, Angie Brown, Stereo MCs and Gary Kemp amongst many others. As a composer and arranger he has been involved in diverse and unusual projects. Together with Billie Ray Martin he created a ground-breaking series of live and partially improvised film-scores in London and Berlin for Polanski's Repulsion, and he has been writing for many other artists.
As a pianist he features on recent releases by Marc Almond and Holly Johnson, and has performed for fashion labels including McQueen and Marc Jacobs. He has also appeared in television comedy productions, having played the piano part for Bowie's appearance with Ricky Gervais on "Extras" (HBO/BBC, prod. Charlie Hanson) and played the piano as Dudley Moore in a BBC recreation of the sketches of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, presented by Jonathan Ross. He also produces and presents regular performance club nights across London incorporating cutting-edge live artists of all kinds. Aside from magazine articles, this book will be his first published work.
Bowie's Piano Man will be exclusively available via the Fantom website until its trade release in March 2015.
Pre-order for a signed copy (hardback edition) UK £19.99 and OS: £26.99.
Over on the GQ magazine website, DAVID BOWIE's new single is reviewed... 'Bowie's a boy named Sue' by editor DYLAN JONES.
DJ: If David Bowie's songs - both past and last - give a sense of premeditated enumeration (having a look around and then using whatever has just been gleaned and forcing it into a song), then 'Sue (or In a Season of Crime)', his new song, released to publicise a new reverse order three CD retrospective, Nothing Has Changed, is everything but.
'A collaboration with New York's Maria Schneider Orchestra (and produced by Tony Visconti), 'Sue' is a heavily theatrical seven-minute free(ish)-form jazz workout, heavy on the brass and the drums that - how many times did we say this in the first fifteen years of his career? - literally sounds like nothing he's recorded before'...
You can read the entire review via the gq-magazine.co.uk website.

DAVID BOWIE's new single SUE (OR IN A SEASON OF CRIME) to be released 17th November on the Parlophone label.
Then later on in the month for the US/North America on 28th November via Columbia Records label exclusively for Record Store Day Black Friday 2014.
Sue, I got the job
We'll buy the house
You'll need to rest
But now we'll make it
Sue, the clinic called
The x-ray's fine
I brought you home
I just said home
Sue, you said you want writ
"Sue the virgin" on your stone
For your grave
Why too dark to speak the words?
For I know that you have a son
Oh, folly, Sue
Ride the train I'm far from home
In a season of crime none need atone
I kissed your face
Sue, I pushed you down beneath the weeds
Endless faith in hopeless deeds
I kissed your face
I touched your face
Sue, good-bye
Sue, I found your note
That you wrote last night
It can't be right
You went with him
Sue, I never dreamed
I'm such a fool
Right from the start
You went with that clown
DAVID BOWIE's new single SUE (OR IN A SEASON OF CRIME) will premiere on BBC 6 MUSIC this Sunday 12th October on Guy Garvey's Radio Show (14.00-16.00).
Guy will be airing the FULL version, and not the edited version as previously reported in the NME.
More of the lyrics have been revealed...

Nothing Has Changed - The Very Best of Bowie is released via Parlophone on 17th November in the UK and via Columbia/Legacy the following day in the US.
SUE (OR IN A SEASON OF CRIME) the new single from David Bowie taken from the forthcoming definitive collection of Bowie's music NOTHING HAS CHANGED is released on Parlophone on November 17th.
SUE was recorded this Summer in New York with the Maria Schneider Orchestra and produced by David Bowie and Tony Visconti. Maria Schneider, who also arranged the track, has won numerous Grammies and is the leader of one of the best big bands in the USA. The song features Donny McCaslin as soloist on tenor saxophone and Ryan Keberle soloist on trombone. Bowie wrote the lyrics for SUE and collaborated on the music with Maria Schneider.
SUE will receive its world premiere on the BBC Radio 6 Music show 'Guy Garvey's Finest Hour' hosted by Elbow front man Guy Garvey on Sunday October 12th from 2pm to 4pm.
Jonathan Barnbrook who worked on THE NEXT DAY, HEATHEN and REALITY albums has designed the artwork for NOTHING HAS CHANGED, each format has its own specific sleeve.
Of the artwork Barnbrook says, "A different image appears on each use. The linking theme is Bowie looking in the mirror. Something which was a strong enough 'archetype' to provide an immediately identifiable visual link but make it clear this was a collection of songs through the experience of one person's life, not necessarily a specific concept or period of time as albums tend to be".
NOTHING HAS CHANGED collects together for the first time the definitive collection of Bowie's music from 1964 to 2014 and features some previously unreleased material as well as tracks making their debut on CD.
LET ME SLEEP BESIDE YOU was first released on THE WORLD OF DAVID BOWIE in 1970. In 2000, it was re-recorded for inclusion on the unreleased TOY album and has remained in the vaults until its inclusion on NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
SHADOW MAN is a famous still unreleased outtake from 1971, the version on NOTHING HAS CHANGED is a re-recording that was made for the unreleased TOY album and first appeared as a b-side on a swiftly deleted single in the early 2000s.
LOVE IS LOST (HELLO STEVE REICH MIX BY JAMES MURPHY FOR THE DFA EDIT) this edited version of critically lauded remix by James Murphy is making its CD premiere.
YOUR TURN TO DRIVE is making its CD debut, it was originally offered as a free download to customers who ordered their copy of the REALITY album online.
WILD IS THE WIND (2010 Harry Maslin Mix) was previously only released on the audio DVD in the Station To Station Deluxe box set. This is its debut on CD.
YOUNG AMERICANS (2007 Tony Visconti Mix Single Edit) the unedited version of the song was previously only released in 5.1 mix on the Young Americans Special Edition CD/DVD. This single edit is previously unreleased.
ALL THE YOUNG DUDES this is a previously unreleased stereo mix of David's own version of the song given to, and a hit for Mott The Hoople.
LIFE ON MARS? (2003 Ken Scott Mix) this version was previously only released on the 40th anniversary 7" picture disc; this is its debut on CD.
