'STARDUST' MOVIE DETAILS
31st January 2019

News reports of a DAVID BOWIE movie entitled: 'Stardust' have re-emerged with more details.

South Africa-born British actor/musician JOHNNY FLYNN will star in the lead role.

Also starring in the movie are Jena Malone (as Angie Bowie) and Marc Maron (as Mercury publicist Ron Oberman).

The film will focus solely on Bowie's first trip to the USA in January and February 1971, where it turned into a promotional trip with visits to radio stations, press interviews and private parties because of work permit problems.

Christopher Bell is writing the script, directed by Gabriel Range, with filming beginning in June 2019.

London-based Salon Pictures are producing and Christopher Frigg of Piccadilly Pictures is co-financing.

Film Constellation has worldwide rights and will introduce 'Stardust' to potential buyers at the European Film Market next month in Berlin on 7-15th February.

David's son DUNCAN JONES @ManMadeMoon made his feelings known about the project on Twitter stating that no one has secured the music rights or got permission from the Family Estate.

SPYING THROUGH A KEYHOLE
30th January 2019

All set for release on 5th April is the DAVID BOWIE Spying Through A Keyhole 7" Vinyl Box Set.

Spying Through A Keyhole David Bowie Spying Through A Keyhole David Bowie With 2019 marking 50 years since David Bowie's first hit, Space Oddity, Parlophone is set to release a 7" vinyl singles box set of nine previously unreleased recordings* from the era during which Space Oddity was first conceived.

The title 'Spying Through A Keyhole' is a lyric taken from the previously unknown song, Love All Around, and though most of the other titles are known, these versions have never been officially released until late last year. Most of the recordings are solo vocal and acoustic home demo performances, unless otherwise stated.

The design of each single label is presented to reflect the way David sent many of his demos to publishers and record companies, featuring his own handwritten song titles on EMIDISC acetate labels. The singles themselves are all mono and play at 45 r.p.m.

Please note: Due to the nature of some of the solo home demos where Bowie accompanied himself on acoustic guitar, the recording quality isn't always of a usual studio fidelity. This is partly due to David's enthusiastic strumming hitting the red on a couple of the tracks, along with the limitations of the original recording equipment and tape degradation. However, the historical importance of these songs and the fact that the selections are from an archive of tracks cleared for release by Bowie, overrides this shortcoming.

The tracklistings run as follows:

SINGLE 1
Side 1
Mother Grey (demo)
Side 2
In The Heat Of The Morning (demo)

SINGLE 2
Side 1
Goodbye 3d (Threepenny) Joe (demo)
Side 2
Love All Around (demo)

SINGLE 3
Side 1
London Bye, Ta-Ta (demo)
Side 2
Angel, Angel, Grubby Face (demo version 1)

SINGLE 4
Side 1
1. Angel, Angel, Grubby Face (demo version 2)
2. Space Oddity (demo excerpt)
Side 2
Space Oddity (demo) with John 'Hutch' Hutchinson.

*Although this will be the first physical release of these tracks, Parlophone did make them available on streaming services for a limited period only in December.

Over the years it has become a tradition amongst DAVID BOWIE freaks to support JOYBELL'S Mulandi charity endeavour in Africa, with thousands of £ generously donated to offer scholarship to dozens of beloved children.

We are pleased to offer these professional reproductions of the original 1963 Kon-rads greeting card, signed by David Bowie as Dave Jay - his name at the time - inspired by saxophone based band Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers.

The folded cards are 13.5 x 21.5 cm, printed on stock board, with repro of the original picture.

All we ask is for a donation to the Mulandi Kenyan Children's charity.

The Kon-rads Charity card  The Kon-rads Charity card  Mulandi Charity

Please send your offers to Mark and Reto at considering packing and shipping to you.

These are printed already in limited numbers, please so be quick and fair with your charity donation amount.

The best offers by February 1st will receive this amazing piece of Bowie historical memorabilia.

Remember it is for Charity. Thank you for your support.

About Mulandi, in a few words:

Long term Bowie-freak Joybell has selflessly dedicated the last 10 years of her life to others and self-funded her flights and accommodations for every trip to Kenya to the point where she now provides care to 42 orphans.

Her main goal is to raise funds to offer them a decent education and give them a chance in life. This costs £140 per child per year (scholarship, including one meal per day and uniform).

So, Bowie-Freaks, let's offer them a Starman!

DAVID BOWIE: FINDING FAME
28th January 2019

Update: The 90-minute documentary is to be shown on Saturday 9th February on BBC Two at 21:00 to 22:30.

Unplaced programmes from 9 February to 15 February

BBC TWO - DAVID BOWIE: FINDING FAME

This feature-length documentary tells the untold story of how David Robert Jones became David Bowie, how Bowie became Ziggy Stardust and how Ziggy became immortal - changing the musical landscape as he did so. David Bowie: Finding Fame is the story that finally makes sense of one of the greatest icons of the 20th and 21st centuries.

With remarkable, unheard audio recordings, unseen archive and unpublished documents alongside exclusive interviews with David's family, girlfriends, lifelong friends and early collaborators, this film shows how his experiences in the 1960s created a blueprint for his entire career.

Starting in 1966, when he changed his name to Bowie, the film traces his interest in everything from Holst to Bill and Ben, the Flowerpot Men, and Anthony Newley to Tibetan Buddhism. Highlights include a deconstruction - through the eight-track masters - of Bowie classics including Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold The World and the song he wanted to forget, The Laughing Gnome. There are previously unheard demos, never-before-seen footage of his journey through Siberia in 1973 and extraordinary Ziggy footage, believed to be lost forever.

Contributors include Bowie's first cousin and lifelong friend Kristina Amadeus, and his former girlfriend and muse Hermione Farthingale - neither of whom have been filmed talking about him before; the late Lindsay Kemp, in his last filmed interview; former girlfriend Dana Gillespie; lifelong friends Geoff MacCormack and George Underwood; producers Mike Vernon, Tony Visconti and Tony Hatch; and Woody Woodmansey, the last remaining Spider From Mars.

This transmission is ahead of the 50th anniversary of the release of David Bowie's Space Oddity.

Directed and produced by Francis Whately, this is the last part of his award-winning and acclaimed David Bowie Trilogy - David Bowie: Five Years, David Bowie: The Last Five Years and now David Bowie: Finding Fame.

The Executive Producer is Phil Dolling.
A BBC Studios Production.

Day and time to be confirmed.

SPYING THROUGH A KEYHOLE
8th January 2019

Spying Through A Keyhole davidbowie.com have exclusively revealed details of an exciting new release entitled: 'DAVID BOWIE - SPYING THROUGH A KEYHOLE (DEMOS AND UNRELEASED SONGS)'.

PARLOPHONE SET TO RELEASE 7" VINYL SINGLES BOX SET OF PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED* DAVID BOWIE RECORDINGS, INCLUDING EARLIEST KNOWN VERSIONS OF SPACE ODDITY.

With 2019 marking 50 years since David Bowie's first hit, Space Oddity, we are excited to announce that Parlophone is set to release a 7" vinyl singles box set of NINE previously unreleased recordings* from the era during which Space Oddity was first conceived.

The title: Spying Through A Keyhole is a lyric taken from the previously unknown song: Love All Around, and though most of the other titles are known, these versions have never been officially released until late last year (see footnote). Most of the recordings are solo vocal and acoustic home demo performances, unless otherwise stated.

Mother Grey (demo)
This mid-tempo tale of a fledgling son fleeing the nest features multi-tracked vocals, guitars and harmonica from David.

In The Heat Of The Morning (demo)
A well-known early Bowie song but presented here in demo form with final lyrics.

Goodbye 3d (Threepenny) Joe (demo)
A charming demo from 1968.

Love All Around (demo)
A delightful love song from whence the title of this collection came: "I see a pop tune spying through a keyhole from the other room."

London Bye, Ta-Ta (demo)
An early demo version of the song with completely different lyrics in a couple of the verses compared to those of the later full band versions.

Angel, Angel, Grubby Face (demo version 1)
The first and only previously known demo of this song.

Angel, Angel, Grubby Face (demo version 2)
A later version of the same song with alternative lyrics.

Space Oddity (demo excerpt)
The lyric and arrangement variations lend weight to the theory that this is possibly the first ever recorded demo of one of Bowie's most famous songs.

Space Oddity (demo - alternative lyrics) (with Hutch)
Originally conceived as a song for a duo to perform, this is the first known version to feature John 'Hutch' Hutchinson again with lyric and arrangement variations.

Due to the nature of some of the solo home demos where Bowie accompanied himself on acoustic guitar, the recording quality isn't always of a usual studio fidelity.

Spying Through A Keyhole will be limited to a vinyl only release in the spring. However, the recordings may appear in the future on other formats. More details and actual release date to follow from Parlophone.

*Footnote: Although this will be the first physical release of these tracks, Parlophone did make them available on streaming services for a limited period only in December.

You can pre-order Spying Through A Keyhole NOW!

BOWIEWONDERWORLD IS 22 TODAY
8th January 2019

Little Wonderworld Today is also BowieWonderworld's birthday - now twenty-two years online!

Thank you to everyone who helps support the site - it is appreciated more than you'll ever know :)

For those not aware, this web site was first set up as a 50th birthday present for David.

It started life as Little Wonder, then Little Wonderworld on Virgin Net Freespace. The website name was taken from the name of his secret gig at the Hanover Grand, London back in 1997.

I originally wanted the website name BowieWorld but David and Ultrastar also wanted that name for a special virtual 3D chatroom BowieWorld he was about to launch. I obviously gave in and promised not to register it, and let them do their thing.

They never registered that domain name as it became part of Worlds.com in the end (and neither did I, keeping my promise). Eventually a fan in New Zealand did register it and put up some pages.

I patiently waited for the bowieworld.com site to close, and for the domain name to become available again (as the vast majority have over the years) and then claimed it in 2012.

I don't know why I registered it, I've done nothing with it yet. Let's just put it down to sentimental reasons.

Ashes To Ashes covers every single Bowie song, whether it was sung, written, or produced by him, from 1976, when he first recorded with Iggy Pop on 'The Idiot,' to his last masterpiece 'Blackstar,' released just days before his death in 2016. Each song is annotated in depth and explored in essays that touch upon the song's creation, production, influences and impact. It hits everything from "Heroes" to the Labyrinth soundtrack, from his 1985 camp duet with Mick Jagger on 'Dancing In the Street' to 'Where Are We Now?' his comeback single in 2013.

Along the way we encounter a vast cast of characters, weaving in and out of Bowie's life and his music: Brian Eno, John Cale, Nile Rodgers, Lou Reed, Freddie Mercury, Scott Walker, Marc Bolan, Arcade Fire, John Lennon, Mickey Rourke, Gary Oldman, Iman, Hanif Kureishi, Julien Temple, Giorgio Moroder, Neil Young and many others. And we range across the globe from Bowie's years in divided Berlin to his 'exile' years in Switzerland through his final years as a New Yorker, recording within walking distance of his home.

About the Author: Chris O'Leary is a writer, editor and journalist based in western Massachusetts. His interviewees range from Richard Fuld, former head of Lehman Brothers, to actor Kiefer Sutherland. He writes for Entertainment Weekly, as well as the Encyclopaedia Britannica. He's the author of Rebel Rebel: All the Songs of David Bowie 1964 - 1976.

This 800-page paperback is published on 19th February.

AT THE BIRTH OF BOWIE
1st January 2019

At the Birth of Bowie by Phil Lancaster A much eagerly awaited memoir is to be published this month.

Entitled: AT THE BIRTH OF BOWIE by PHIL LANCASTER this 320-page hardback book is published on 10th January.

Synopsis: It is 1965, and Swinging London is coming into its prime years. The streets are alive with mods and rockers, playboys and good-time girls, all revelling in the blossoming artistic, creative and cultural energies of the decade.

Amid the colour and chaos is a boy sporting drainpipe jeans, an immaculately tailored sports coat and a half-inch wide tie. A devoted fan of The Who, he looks the part in his pristine mod gear. As the lead singer of the Lower Third, his talent is shaping itself into something truly special.

His name is Davie Jones. In ten years, he will be unrecognisable as fresh-faced boy of 1965, and in just over fifty years, his death will be mourned by millions, his legacy the story of the greatest rock star of all time.

And through Bowie's transition from pop group member to solo performer, Phil Lancaster was by his side. As the drummer in Bowie's band, The Lower Third, Phil was there as the singer's musical stripes began to show, and was witness to his early recording techniques, his first experimental forays into drug-taking, and the band's discovery of his bisexuality in shocking circumstances.

In this riveting - and often very funny - memoir, Phil tells the story of life alongside the insecure yet blazingly talented boy who became Bowie, at a critical crossroad of time and place in music history. What follows is an intimate, personal and important perspective on the genesis of one of the most iconic musicians of the twentieth century - one that gets under the skin of the man himself, before the personas and alter-egos masked the fascinating figure beneath them.

At the Birth of Bowie is essential reading for anyone who knows what happened on Bowie's journey, but wants to understand how, and why, it ever began.

About the Author: Phil Lancaster is a professional drummer across multiple styles. Born in Walthamstow on Boxing Day, 1942 Phil was both drawn to show business from a young age and took up the drums to form groups with close school friends, cutting his teeth on the changing musical styles of the day including skiffle, jazz and early rock before finally turning fully professional at the age of 21. After returning from live engagements in Europe and in need of a new group Phil followed up a music paper advert and met a 19-year-old singer called David Jones (who had yet to change his name to Bowie) at the famous Gioconda cafe in Denmark Street, thus becoming a member of Davie Jones and The Lower Third - the band with whom David Jones would become David Bowie - all without a formal audition.

Kevin Cann is a Bowie expert who has worked as a designer and writer for the last 35 years. His publications include David Bowie A Chronology for Vermilion, and Kevin's definitive early years account of Bowie's life and career - Any Day Now, The London Years - 1947-1973 - which received wide recognition, and was also highly regarded by David himself. He also acted as consultant on David and Mick Rock's 2002 Genesis Publications book Moonage Daydream - The Life and Times of Ziggy Stardust. He also researched, co-designed and co-ordinated the reissue of David's back catalogue with EMI (17 albums), and has contributed chronologies and sleeve notes for numerous David Bowie 30th and 40th anniversary releases, including Ziggy Stardust, Diamond Dogs and Station To Station.

You can pre-order NOW and save 12% on the RRP.

Yesterday's MAIL ON SUNDAY EVENT magazine supplement contained a six-page 'Bowie in the 60s' special feature. DB graced the front cover with the blurb: 'Mr & Mr Jones'. Inside featured stories from this forthcoming book.

BOWIE DUBLIN FESTIVAL 2019
1st January 2019

Dublin Bowie Festival 19 The annual Dublin Bowie Festival returns for its fourth edition next week from Monday January 7th until Sunday January 13th and again, fans of the legendary singer are in for a treat with the week-long event set to celebrate 50 years of Space Oddity and the greatest Starman of our time.

Kicking off the festival on Monday 7th January is a real treat for Bowiephiles; a world premiere exclusive Festival performance of the Space Oddity album from start to finish (and other songs from the Bowie Universe) by the I Heart Bowie ensemble alongside the renowned Trinity Orchestra and some very special guest singers in the hallowed National Concert Hall.

The festival is also associating with MCD as they host the Irish performance of A Bowie Celebration in The Olympia Theatre, Wednesday 9th January. Comprising 5 key members of Bowie's band over his long career - Mark Plati, Carmine Rojas, Earl Slick, Dubliner Gerry Leonard and Bowie's longest serving sidekick, pianist Mike Garson - A Bowie Celebration bring an unforgettable and critically acclaimed evening of Bowie songs with world-class vocalists and an ever rotating mix of hits and deep cuts. Gerry was our first guest of honour at DBF 16 and his continual championing of the Festival and background help is always much appreciated.

The festival will also have The Lighthouse Cinema involved again and their Bowie related programme ticks all the boxes as Space lovers can enjoy seeing Bowie's cult sci-fi classic The Man Who Fell To Earth and the movie that inspired Bowie to introduce Major Tom to the universe, Stanley Kubrick's 2001 - A Space Odyssey. We're particularly pleased that they are also screening Moon, the superb debut feature film of one Duncan Jones, Bowie's son. For family fun it's hard to beat the 80's musical fantasy Labyrinth and its noon screening on Saturday 12th kicks off a family friendly day of activities in Smithfield Square that includes talks, workshops and experiments as we engage our inner scientist while gazing up at the stars from inside a Mobile Planetarium looking at The View from Major Tom's Tin Can.

Last year's festival featured in excess of 8,000 with Bowie fans travelling from as far as Australia, the U.S. and continental Europe and the UK to attend, along with thousands of Bowie lovers from all over Ireland. We are delighted to have the support of Dublin City Council and Visit Dublin for DBF 19 and are extremely grateful of the continued backing and expertise that they bring to the Festival.
