Update: Video footage of when the statue was vandalised has just been released.
It shows what appears to be a man at around 12:45am approaching the statue with a spray can in his hand. He seems to linger for a while before starting to spray 'RIP DB' on the wall.
The man then sprays the statue a little, before writing his main message of 'Feed the homeless first' on the floor. The vandal then sprays another 'RIP DB' before spraying some more paint on the statue and wall.
The whole incident lasts approximately three minutes.
The graffiti says 'Feed the Homeless first' and 'RIP DB'.
The memorial has been controversial, but hundreds turned out at the weekend for the big unveiling event.
Music promoter and the man behind the statue David Stopps said: "I was very disappointed that this has happened, but when I went to see it; it could have been a lot worse. We're busy cleaning it up now. The paint was on the statue, the wall behind and on the pavement. It was about the homeless - but I do quite a lot for the homeless, which is the irony of the whole thing. It's ironic and ignorant because no public money was used on this statue. It was entirely David Bowie fans and people who wanted to see this happen."

On this day, 42 years ago, DAVID BOWIE had this rather debonair mugshot taken by the Rochester Police Department when he appeared at the City Court for arraignment.
David was arrested a few days earlier for possessing marijuana in Rochester, New York on 21st March 1976.
The 5x4 inch photograph was found and rescued by Gary Hess from the trash during an estate sale of a retired Rochester police officer. It was later auctioned on eBay and realised $2,556 (£1,247.44 GBP).
The picture was taken four days after David was arrested, along with singer James Newell Osterberg, Jr. (aka Iggy Pop), bodyguard Dwayne A. Vaughn (22), of Brooklyn and Chi Wah Soo (20) of Rochester on drug possession charges.
The four were arrested at 2:25 a.m. in a three-room suite in the hotel at 70 State Street by four city vice squad detectives and a State Police investigator. They were all charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of marijuana. Police said they confiscated what they described as about half a pound of marijuana (182 grams). The charge was a Class C felony, carrying a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
They were busted at the Americana Rochester Hotel and held in the Monroe County jail for a few hours before being released. David's $2,000 bail was ordered in cash, and $2,000 in bond was set for the others.
David pleaded innocent in court and was eventually found not guilty by the Rochester City Court.

It was pretty obvious early on that he was a trailblazer. He wasn't the same as anyone else - never. He was always different. Looked different and sounded different. He was definitely someone who knew more than the rest of us about what to do. I think that's the best way to put it'...
Recently partnering with Moonlight Books, TAGSMART authenticated RICOCHET: DAVID BOWIE 1983 by DENIS O'REGAN.
The book, which includes a fine art collection of rare photographs from David Bowie's 1983 tour, used a specially developed form of Tagsmart's new DNA stamp.

Synopsis: In 1990, on their third world tour together, photographer Denis O'Regan told David Bowie what inspired him to take up rock photography. 'It's because of you,' said Denis. He was inspired by Bowie's 1973 Ziggy Stardust concert at the Hammersmith Odeon. Bowie's response: 'Nah, you'll probably tell Bono the same thing tomorrow night.'
In Ricochet: Bowie 1983, the official photographer of one of the most celebrated musicians of all time reveals intimate stories and pictures that offer an exclusive insight into David Bowie the man and musician. Taken on the 'Serious Moonlight Tour' - Bowie's largest ever tour that took in 99 concerts in over 60 cities - Denis's photos provide a thrilling, intimate view of life on the road with a unique pop icon. From capturing the theatre and mime of Bowie on stage to unguarded snapshots of the artist at his most human, every single image in Ricochet was personally approved by Bowie himself, and the result is a music photography book like no other.
Witty, poignant, and beautifully produced, Ricochet is a rare and spirited look into the life of an inimitable artist, whose music and performances have inspired - and continue to inspire - generations of listeners around the world.

On this day, 43 years ago, DAVID BOWIE released his 'Young Americans' album in 1975.
Recorded primarily at Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in August 1974, it was agreed early on to record as much of the album as possible live, with the full band playing together, including David's vocals, as a single continuous take for each song.
There were no fewer than 7 different "working" titles for the album mentioned in the press at the time, including: 'Shilling The Rubes' (which is circus slang for taking money off people), 'The Gouster', 'Somebody Up There Likes Me', 'One Damn Song', 'Fascination', 'Dancin' and 'Young American'.
For the album cover artwork, Bowie initially wanted to commission Norman Rockwell to create a painting, but retracted the offer when he heard that Rockwell would need at least 6 months to do the job. The album's cover photo was eventually taken in Los Angeles on 30th August 1974, by Eric Stephen Jacobs. The inspiration for the cover came from a copy of After Dark magazine (September 1974) which featured another of Jacobs' photographs of Bowie's then choreographer Toni Basil.
Anyone who has seen the fabulous MUTE movie by DUNCAN JONES will have surely spotted the DAVID BOWIE lino-cut print that appears in the movie several times.

The David Bowie original artwork, created in 1978 during the filming of Just A Gigolo, was exhibited at The New Expressionist Movement exhibition in Berlin on 23rd-25th March 1983.
