DAVID BOWIE unseen photographs are available for the first time in SNAP GALLERIES new exhibition - on show at the gallery from 16th August to 24th September 2016.
What a dream. Launching a collection of previously unseen photographs of a major artist - like David Bowie. Sadly such events are rare, because by now, pretty much everything worth seeing has been seen.
But imagine if a technically accomplished and intimate set of previously unpublished black and white photographs of David Bowie were uncovered, almost fifty years after they were first taken. That would be pretty special, right?
Time to introduce GERALD FEARNLEY.
Gerald is the brother of "Dek" (Derek) Fearnley, the bass player of the band The Buzz, who backed David Bowie in 1966/1967, and played on his first album.
The band and David Bowie would often stay at Gerald's house in Worcester Park, Surrey. In fact he still remembers David Bowie playing piano with his son Roger on his knee, and how he taught the whole Fearnley family how to play the theme tune to the TV series The Killing Stones on penny whistles. David would often stay alone in the Fearnley family home writing songs, and the band would rehearse there prior to gigs.
Gerald was a professional photographer and this fact, and the connection through his brother Dek, resulted in him taking the colour portrait that appeared on the front cover of David Bowie's first album, the self-titled 1st June 1967 release David Bowie. This is a very well known image - and a rare previously unpublished colour outtake from that cover shoot appears for the first time in the exhibition.
However, while this colour LP cover image is very well known, Gerald's archives contain some completely unknown buried treasure - in the form of an entire session of black and white photographs of David Bowie (taken at his Bryanston Street studio around the time of, but completely distinct from the album cover session) - all previously unpublished.
These intimate portraits, set against a roll of no-seam studio background paper, show David Bowie in playful mood: in face paint, miming, laughing and smiling, throwing shapes, sitting in yoga positions, and clowning around in a superhero sweater and a bowler hat.
Limited editions signed by Gerald Fearnley available now to purchase.
It is with great pleasure that in this exhibition, for the first time anywhere in the world, Snap Galleries are able to offer a carefully curated selection of these photographs to their clients as limited editions signed by Gerald Fearnley.
Each signed photograph is offered in a choice of physical sizes, and edition sizes are reassuringly small. Just 10 signed and numbered examples in each of the three size options are available worldwide - a maximum of 30 prints of each image. The photographs work individually, and in pairs and in combinations of images, and to assist you if you are torn between competing images, we are keeping launch prices very keen.
They will be on show at the gallery from 16th August to 24th September 2016, but are available to order now if you can't wait.
Please visit snapgalleries.com for more information and purchasing options.

More information just announced concerning the forthcoming DAVID BOWIE WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 - 1976) Box Set...
22nd July, 2016 London - Parlophone Records are proud to announce DAVID BOWIE 'WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 - 1976)' the second in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969.
The follow up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed DAVID BOWIE 'FIVE YEARS (1969 - 1973)' will be released on Friday 23rd September and will contain the previously unreleased album from 1974 called 'THE GOUSTER'.
The twelve CD box, thirteen-piece vinyl set and digital download features the material officially released by Bowie during the so-called 'American' phase of his career from 1974 to 1976.
The box set, which is named after a track recorded in 1974 but not officially released until the 1990's, includes 'DIAMOND DOGS', 'DAVID LIVE' (in original and 2005 mixes), 'YOUNG AMERICANS' and 'STATION TO STATION' (in original and 2010 mixes) as well as 'THE GOUSTER', 'LIVE NASSAU COLISEUM 76' and a new compilation 'RE:CALL 2' a collection of single versions and non-album b-sides.
All of the formats include tracks that have never before appeared on CD/vinyl/digitally as well as new remasters.
Exclusive to each of the box sets is the previously unreleased as a complete album 'THE GOUSTER' that was recorded at Sigma Sound, Philadelphia in 1974 and produced by Tony Visconti. The album was mixed and mastered before David decamped to New York to work with John Lennon and Harry Maslin on what became the 'YOUNG AMERICANS' album. 'THE GOUSTER' contains three previously unreleased mixes of 'Right', 'Can You Hear Me' and 'Somebody Up There Likes Me'.
For the 2016 release, Tony Visconti has overseen the mastering from the original tapes and photos taken by Eric Stephen Jacobs have been put together for the sleeve based around one of David's original concepts for the album.
Also exclusive to the CD, vinyl, standard digital and MFiT box sets will be the remastered 'DAVID LIVE (original mix)', the 2010 Harry Maslin mix of 'STATION TO STATION' (previously only available on an audio only DVD in 5.1 and stereo as part of the 'STATION TO STATION' Deluxe box set in 2010) and 'RE:CALL 2'.
This new compilation features the original single mix of 'Rebel Rebel', which has only featured on a 40th anniversary picture disc in 2014 since its original release on single in 1974, and a previously unreleased on CD Australian single edit of 'Diamond Dogs', the only place in the world that this edit was issued. Also appearing on CD for the first time is the single edit of the live version of 'Rock 'n' Roll With Me', which was issued to radio stations in the U.S. to help promote the 'DAVID LIVE' album.
'RE:CALL 2' features newly originated artwork with 1975 in-studio images from the 'STATION TO STATION' recording sessions by David's friend and backing vocalist Geoff MacCormack aka Warren Peace.
The alternative cover for the 2010 mix of 'STATION TO STATION' by Harry Maslin, features the originally intended colour sleeve for the album that never got further than a few colour proofs and was replaced by the more familiar black and white image.
The vinyl box set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.
The box set's accompanying book, 128 pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Eric Stephen Jacobs, Tom Kelley, Geoff MacCormack, Terry O'Neill, Steve Schapiro, and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producers Tony Visconti and Harry Maslin.
The CD box set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums and the CDs will be gold coloured rather than the usual silver.
You can read the official press release for full details of tracklistings and formats.
The Vinyl LP Box Set is available to pre-order NOW, as is the CD Box Set and Digital download

02. Dandy.
03. Ghosts.
04. Fingers Crossed.
05. White House.
06. Bow.
07. Morpheus.
08. Stranded In Reality.
09. You Can't Live In The Past.

Whilst we're waiting for the album release, you can listen to the 'Dandy' audio - and if you need the lyrics - see below...
DANDY - (Ian Hunter)
Something is happening - Mr. Jones
My brother says you're better than The Beatles or The Stones
Saturday nite 'n' Sunday morning
You turned us into "Heroes" - can you hear the heroes sing?
Dandy - you're the prettiest star
There ain't no life on Mars
But we always thought there might be
Dandy - you opened up the door
You left us wanting more
And then we took the last bus home - (yeah)
Who let the Genie - outta the lamp?
And Little Lord Fauntleroy - who let him outta his amp?
Saturday nite 'n' Sunday morning
Well Trevor's getting bolder - 'n' Woody loves to hit things
Dandy - this world was black 'n' white
You showed us what it's like
To live inside a rainbow
Dandy - you thrilled us to the core
You left us wanting more
And then we took the last bus home
You beat up Goliath - you had it all
The voice, the look, the songs that shook
The gift of the gab 'n' the gall
Saturday nite 'n' Sunday morning
When all we had to look forward to was the weekend
You made our lives worth living
Dandy - you're still the prettiest star
There ain't no life on Mars
But we always thought there might be - (yeah)
Dandy - you took us to the fair
We're Cabaret Voltaire - and then we caught the last bus home
Dandy - y'know we've waited long enough
They should put a statue up
In Piccadilly Circus
Dandy - you blew us all away
Outta the drab 'n' the grey
And then we caught the last bus home
Dandy - the keeper of the flame
We won't see your like again
No, Dandy was a one-off
Dandy - hey look what you've become
I guess I owe you one
So thanks for the memories

Published later this month on Thursday 28th July is the "unique and personal biographical critique" entitled: THE AGE OF BOWIE written by PAUL MORLEY via publishers Simon and Schuster.
'The Age of Bowie - How David Bowie made a world of difference' is promised to "capture the greatest moments of Bowie's career; from the recording studio with the likes of Brian Eno and Tony Visconti; to iconic live performances from the 1970s, 80s and 90s, as well as the various encounters and artistic relationships he developed with rock luminaries John Lennon, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop", plus discuss in detail his "much-heralded and critically-acclaimed" ★ album.
Morley said: "On the day it was announced that David Bowie had died, before there was any time to think, I was asked a hundred times what I thought. What I really thought was that it would take a book to help fully process what Bowie meant to me, to music and popular culture, and to the world out there that changed because of him. Then I thought, I need to write that book."
Iain MacGregor, publishing director Simon and Schuster, acquired the world rights (all languages) from David Godwin Associates. S&S will publish the book globally, with Gallery Books releasing it in the US simultaneously.

Published this month on Thursday 28th July is the "unique and personal biographical critique" entitled: THE AGE OF BOWIE written by PAUL MORLEY via publishers Simon and Schuster.

Besides the cinema posters, artist TIM DOYLE was approached by StudioCanal and Under The Floorboards to create official artwork for THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH movie.
He has created a 20x30 inch full-bleed hand-printed silkscreened print, signed and numbered by the artist in a REGULAR edition of #145, and there is a RAINBOW FOIL variant edition of #55.
Tim says: "I specifically wanted to design this poster so that it could hang either direction, there is no true 'up' with this image.
The film features DAVID BOWIE playing an alien come to Earth to help save his family on his home planet, but instead finds his own moral ruin.
My intention was to show him both ascending to salvation and falling to his own destruction. It's truly a haunting and sparse film - if you haven't seen it, seek it out.
The artwork is by me, and the type and art assist is by Tyler Skaggs."

Excited to announce the launch of PSG's latest book, DAVID BOWIE: BEHIND THE CURTAIN by photographer ANDREW KENT with foreword by Academy Award winner Cameron Crowe.
The book documents the era of the Thin White Duke, the 1976 world tour, and numerous larger-than-life moments along the way.
About 25% of the photos in the book have never before been seen.
In 1975, rock 'n' roll photographer Andrew Kent landed the gig of a lifetime. He had been entrusted by Bowie to document, with unfettered access, anything and everything Bowie and his entourage encountered for the next two years. Backstage, on stage, private parties, birthday parties, limos, quiet hotel moments, dressing rooms, Berlin, Paris, New York, London, Helsinki, Moscow. Also along during the 1976 world tour was an 18-year-old Rolling Stone reporter researching a cover story on Bowie named Cameron Crowe. In 1976 Bowie took Iggy Pop, his manager Pat Gibbons, his personal secretary Coco, and Kent on an impromptu excursion by train to the Soviet Union. A mistake on the schedule at the train station caused the group to miss their return train to Helsinki leading the press to run frenzied headlines reading, 'David Bowie Missing in Soviet Union!'. With his unprecedented access, Kent created a one-of-a-kind travelogue, capturing the unique and spectacular life of one of the most iconic musicians in rock 'n' roll history.
Scheduled for publication in early October, all books purchased during the pre-order phase (through September 15th) will be personally autographed by Andrew Kent.
There is a 'First Edition', hardcover 160 pages, a 'Collectors' Edition' and 'Edition of Five'.
You can check out a gallery of photos or pre-order the book at bowiebehindthecurtain.com

A festival celebrating the life and legacy of DAVID BOWIE and The Beckenham Arts Lab...
Bowie fans and music lovers from Britain and beyond will come together in Beckenham, South London on Saturday 13th August, in the park where his rise to stardom took off in 1969.
Bowie's Beckenham Oddity will take place at the bandstand at the Croydon Road Recreation Ground, where Bowie and his friends from the Beckenham Arts Lab organised the UK's first Free Festival on 16th August, 47 years ago. The festival coincided with the release of David's first hit single Space Oddity and was immortalised with another hit song, Memory Of A Free Festival.
This year's event kicks off at 1.00 pm with a stellar line up of musical talent, who will reprise lots of Bowie's greatest songs including Life On Mars?, which he wrote while sitting on the bandstand steps. Featured artists include Malcolm Doherty, Daphne Guinness, Maggi Ronson, Phillip Rambow and Boe Huntress.
There's a welcome return from Amory Kane who played at the 1969 Free Festival and also at the 2013 and 2014 Memory of a Free Festival events organised at the bandstand by Beckenham resident Natasha Ryzhova Lau. The avant garde duo Raf & O are also welcomed back, following their performances in 2013 and 2014.
David's co-founder and organiser of The Beckenham Arts Lab, Mary Finnigan, will be signing copies of her recently published book Psychedelic Suburbia, and photographer Gaz de Vere will be taking photos at the event.
The two Memory of a Free Festival events raised £16,000 towards the bandstand restoration fund. Bowie's Beckenham Oddity organiser Wendy Faulkner says her aim this year is to raise even more.
"After the devastating news of David's death in January we felt we had to do a tribute for him - and there's no more fitting place to do this than the bandstand where he played in 1969," she says. "It's not just about Bowie, but also all the people who were involved with him along his path to stardom."
Bowie's Beckenham Oddity is supported by The London Borough of Bromley, which has named the bandstand in his honour. When enough money is raised, it will be restored to its former glory.
Other attractions this year include food and drinks by local caterers Dizzy's Diner, plus market stalls. There will be an auction of Bowie memorabilia - including a signed David Bowie item from the Official Bowie Archives - before the end of the day at 7.00pm.
Tickets for the event cost £10 (under tens free) and are available on the day or in advance NOW via wegottickets.com website.
