A brand new DAVID BOWIE compilation album entitled: BOWIE - LEGACY is all set for release on Friday 11th November.
This album collects together a selection of David Bowie's most popular tracks and singles, from 1969's 'Space Oddity', through to the final singles 'Lazarus' and 'I Can't Give Everything Away', issued earlier this year.
Available on CD
All formats will include a previously unreleased version of 'Life On Mars?' newly mixed by Ken Scott.

DAVID BOWIE's last public appearance before his death was at the opening night of Lazarus, the musical he wrote with ENDA WALSH as a sequel to the film The Man Who Fell To Earth (1976). Actor Michael C. Hall, who plays the lead in Lazarus, joins the show's producer Robert Fox to discuss the influence of both the film and Walter Tevis's original novel, as well as Bowie's involvement in the show and the singer's identification with Thomas Jerome Newton.
The Q&A is hosted by BFI programmer Justin Johnson.

Released today is DAVID BOWIE 'WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 - 1976) the second in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969.
This follow up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed DAVID BOWIE 'FIVE YEARS (1969 - 1973)' contains the previously unreleased album from 1974 called 'THE GOUSTER'.
The twelve CD box, thirteen-piece vinyl set and digital download features the material officially released by Bowie during the so-called 'American' phase of his career from 1974 to 1976.
For the 2016 release, Tony Visconti has overseen the mastering from the original tapes and photos taken by Eric Stephen Jacobs have been put together for the sleeve based around one of David's original concepts for the album.
The vinyl box set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.
The box set's accompanying book, 128 pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Eric Stephen Jacobs, Tom Kelley, Geoff MacCormack, Terry O'Neill, Steve Schapiro, and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producers Tony Visconti and Harry Maslin.
The CD box set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums and the CDs will be gold coloured rather than the usual silver.

A musical Humber Bridge, a 14th-Century masterpiece, an outrageous 1960s art collective and THE SPIDERS FROM MARS will all be part of the line-up for Hull's year as UK City of Culture.
The £32m programme will take over streets and venues throughout 2017. HULL 2017 director Martin Green said it will reflect ideas from the city "that have changed and enriched the world".
The year will begin with an outdoor extravaganza using projections and performances to tell the story of Hull. HOLY HOLY, the band made up of Hull's own Spiders From Mars drummer Woody Woodmansey, DAVID BOWIE producer Tony Visconti and Heaven 17's Glenn Gregory will perform The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars live for the first time.

In addition, a series of screenings in anticipation of Woody Woodmansey's return to Hull as part of Holy Holy, celebrating the impact of what is arguably Hull's most important musical export - David Bowie's band The Spiders From Mars, particularly the legacy of guitarist MICK RONSON.
Featuring live performance films, talks and in-depth documentaries, they will survey Ronson's influence and immense impact. From the Ziggy Stardust album to Hunky Dory and Lou Reed's Transformer, this powerhouse guitarist, musician, arranger and producer made a phenomenal contribution to the music industry. Transformative Film Culture for Hull 2017 is providing a film screening programme across the city for 2017 and is delivered by Film Hub North as part of the BFI Film Audience Network with the support of the BFI awarding funds from The National Lottery.

Co-produced with Tony Visconti and recorded with Donny McCaslin and his quartet, these 3 songs feature the same musicians that played on the ★ album.
The album artwork has been designed by Jonathan Barnbrook, who also worked with Bowie on his ★, Nothing Has Changed, The Next Day and Heathen albums.
The Lazarus cast album was produced by the show's musical director Henry Hey, who had previously worked with Bowie on 'The Next Day' and features vocals from Michael C. Hall, Sophia Anne Caruso, Cristin Milioti, Michael Esper and other cast members backed by the seven-piece house band Hey assembled for the New York run. The cast album was recorded on 11th January 2016. Upon arriving at the studio, the musicians and cast were shocked and saddened to learn that David had passed away the evening before. Their emotional performances that day are captured on this recording.

The 2016 newly revised and expanded Seventh Edition of THE COMPLETE DAVID BOWIE by NICHOLAS PEGG is to be published via Titan Books next month on Tuesday 25th October.
Incorporating 'The Next Day', 'Blackstar', the 'David Bowie Is' exhibition, the 'Lazarus' stage show, this year's heartbreaking news, and every other development in the world of David Bowie since the last update was published back in 2011, this new edition will be the biggest one yet.
I'm told this new edition contains over 600,000 words (to be precise it's 601,946) and it is now officially longer than War And Peace!

BBC Four will broadcast the Awards ceremony live in an hour-long special - Best Album of the Year 2016 - Mercury Prize Live - presented by Lauren Laverne.
Just prior to the BBC Four programme, BBC Red Button will feature an hour-long show from 8-9pm, fronted by 6 Music presenter, Shaun Keaveny, also at the Awards. It will showcase the music of all 12 of the shortlisted acts, featuring the majority in performance on stage earlier that evening at the event.
BBC Radio 6 Music will be covering the Mercury Prize live from 7-10pm on the night of the Awards. Presenters will be bringing the excitement of the build-up to the big prize to the station's listeners. They'll be reflecting the story of this year's Mercury Prize and the social media response to the evening as it unfolds. And throughout the day, 6 Music will play tracks from previous Mercury winners and celebrate the prize.

Performing at the 2016 MERCURY PRIZE event this coming Thursday 15th September is MICHAEL C. HALL, who will be performing the song 'Lazarus' with Henry Hey and the Lazarus house band.

The Man Who Fell To Earth original soundtrack recording is released as a 2-CD audio
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Nicolas Roeg's enigmatic, David Bowie film, comes the release of the original movie soundtrack. Previously unavailable in any form until now, the soundtrack contains seminal pieces by Stomu Yamashta and John Phillips, who composed specifically for the film.
The film's score has always been highly celebrated and long sought after by fans, but until now unavailable as a body of work: it can now finally be acknowledged in its own right. Little is known, and much has been asked, as to why the soundtrack was never originally released. Due to lost tapes recently being uncovered it is now possible to present the original recordings restored and remastered for this 2CD set.

Featured in the new issue of RECORD COLLECTOR magazine (October #457) is a full-page letter article complete with photographs of three new discoveries.
Owner MR JANES reveals that his father picked up three DAVID BOWIE records at a church sale a while back. The owner filed them away, then when he heard about David's passing, he remembered he had them and dug them out.
The three 8" one-sided acetates by DAVIE JONES & THE LOWER THIRD are:
1. I Don't Mind.
2. I Wish You Would.
3. Born Of The Night.
Collectors will already know about 'Born Of The Night' as it was mentioned by David in a press release at the time. The band were hoping that this song would be released as a single. The song was recorded at Central Sound studio in Denmark Street, played regularly in their live set, but unfortunately, it was rejected by producer Shel Talmy.
As for the other two songs, logic says 'I Wish You Would' is probably the Billy Boy Arnold song. This was covered by The Yardbirds, and as you know DB re-recorded this on his 1973 Pin Ups album as his nod to the band.
'I Don't Mind' could possibly be the James Brown penned song that was released in 1961 on the King label. This song was covered and released by The Who, The In Crowd and The Moody Blues all in 1965.

About 'Golden Years' "David Bowie changed the entire landscape of popular music, fashion, culture and beyond. To create one classic album in a lifetime is more than enough, but between 1970 and 1980 he produced a classic album virtually every year, sometimes two. It was easily the greatest run of albums in rock & pop music history. An incredible burst of artistic creativity. Who else managed to do that apart from The Beatles? Who else since? They most definitely were his "Golden Years".
After David Bowie passed away earlier this year, I tried to analyse why it seemed a major event in my own life and many others. For me personally, without David Bowie I might not have become an artist. It was his song 'Andy Warhol' on the 1971 album 'Hunky Dory' that first ignited my interest in Andy Warhol and the pop art movement from a very early age. I always admired the way in which he was interested in 'everything' and took many different elements, sometimes avant-garde or from the fringes of pop culture and synthesised them into credible, yet accessible music. I think he once referred to himself as a "cultural magpie". It's an attitude that really resonated with me and which has influenced my own career.
For this collection of neon art, I've created a portrait for each of my personal favourite Bowie years, which capture him at the height of his 1970's glory. In each of the portraits I've tried to convey the imagery and references for that particular year. The basis for most of the portraits is a pencil sketch rather than my usual method of working with photographs. Whilst I was drawing them, it made me feel very nostalgic as I used to do these kind of sketches as a teenager. But it's also thrilling to be able to totally transform them into amazing aluminium & neon art works that wouldn't have been possible back then." - Louis Sidoli.

DONNY McCASLIN who as you know collaborated with DAVID BOWIE on his ★ album is to release a new album next month entitled: BEYOND NOW
Beyond Now features the same group of musicians that defined Blackstar's aesthetic - keyboardist Jason Lindner, bassist Tim Lefebvre and Mark Guiliana.
Donny says: "There was a lot of that energy bouncing off of all of us when we were recording Blackstar and I wanted to make sure that that was all present in this new record.
"The title track 'Beyond Now' is directly inspired by a song of David's that we recorded during the Blackstar sessions, but that didn't make the final record. All the originals were written last summer - before he passed away, but while the Blackstar recordings were still really fresh. [The sessions concluded in Spring 2015.] Songs of his were just kind of running through my unconscious. That was part of it."
Also featured on the album are two Bowie cover versions: 'A Small Plot Of Land' (David Bowie/Brian Eno/Reeves Gabrels/Mike Garson/Erdal Kizilcay/Sterling Campbell) and 'Warszawa' (David Bowie/Brian Eno).

Released this month is DAVID BOWIE 'WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 - 1976) the second in a series of box sets spanning his career from 1969.
This follow up to the awarding winning and critically acclaimed DAVID BOWIE 'FIVE YEARS (1969 - 1973)' will be released on Friday 23rd September and will contain the previously unreleased album from 1974 called 'THE GOUSTER'.
The twelve CD box, thirteen-piece vinyl set and digital download features the material officially released by Bowie during the so-called 'American' phase of his career from 1974 to 1976.
For the 2016 release, Tony Visconti has overseen the mastering from the original tapes and photos taken by Eric Stephen Jacobs have been put together for the sleeve based around one of David's original concepts for the album.
The vinyl box set has the same content as the CD set and is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.
The box set's accompanying book, 128 pages in the CD box and 84 in the vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographers including Eric Stephen Jacobs, Tom Kelley, Geoff MacCormack, Terry O'Neill, Steve Schapiro, and many others as well as historical press reviews and technical notes about the albums from producers Tony Visconti and Harry Maslin.
The CD box set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of the original albums and the CDs will be gold coloured rather than the usual silver.

About a year and a half ago, JAY GLENNIE was approached to write the story of the making of DAVID BOWIE's first feature film debut The Man Who Fell To Earth, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, due to his relationship with the two Oscar-winning producers of the film Michael Deeley and Barry Spikings.
The cast and crew all told him about their fond memories of working with David Bowie who described him as polite and professional as well as being a bit strange. The film's director Nic Roeg spoke of the nervousness of the studio who felt that Bowie was just too weird and out there which, of course, proved to be ideal casting.
