The HD PROJECTS presents the fourth and final in the series of interview videos with world-famous music producer TONY VISCONTI, talking about drummer DENNIS DAVIS and DAVID BOWIE.
The interview took place at Tony Visconti's recording studio, in New York City in 2018. Tony provided a lot of information and insight into the music he and David Bowie made and the times they shared, with Dennis Davis.
Each video focuses on a specific phase of Tony's work with Bowie and Dennis. This one is on the period that produced Bowie's 1979 album Lodger and 1980 album Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps). The recording and production happened over a period of about 20 months, in London, Montreux and New York. During this time, the constant in Bowie's musical cohorts continued to be Tony Visconti and The D.A.M. Trio - Dennis Davis, Carlos Alomar and George Murray.
A personal note from Dennis' son Hikaru Davis:
"When I watch these videos, I feel time. I feel time because I looked so small and young. My voice was still a little boy's voice. But when I think about the time passed, it seems that nothing has changed. I'm afraid to forget my dad, how he was like, how his voice was like and how his drum sounded like. I'm lucky because he left us so much. I can always listen to his drums. When I visited Mr. Visconti's studio, he shared the original recording sound of my Dad. I could even hear him cough too. I would like to thank Mr. Visconti for his time, sharing many stories of my Dad and the sounds of my favorite drummer, Dennis Davis. Thank you."

Scheduled for publication next year is BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams by Michael Allred and Steve Horton.
This 160-page hardcover, published by Insight Editions hits the stores on 7th January, 2020.
Synopsis: Inspired by the one and only superhero, extraterrestrial, and rock and roll deity in history, BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams is the original graphic memoir of the great Ziggy Stardust!
In life, David Bowie was one of the most magnetic icons of modern pop culture, seducing generations of fans with both his music and his counterculture persona. In death, the cult of Bowie has only intensified. As a musician alone, Bowie's legacy is remarkable, but his place in the popular imagination is due to so much more than his music. As a visual performer, he defied classification with his psychedelic aesthetics, his larger-than-life image, and his way of hovering on the border of the surreal.
BOWIE: Stardust, Rayguns & Moonage Daydreams chronicles the rise of Bowie's career from obscurity to fame; and paralleled by the rise and fall of his alter ego as well as the rise and fall of Ziggy Stardust. As The Spiders From Mars slowly implode, Bowie wrestles with his Ziggy persona. The outcome of this internal conflict will change not only David Bowie, but also, the world.
About the Authors and Illustrators:
Steve Horton is most recently the author of the graphic novel Satellite Falling (IDW Publishing), which multi-award winning comic writer Jimmy Palmiotti called his "new favorite book". Satellite Falling is currently one issue in, and that first issue sold over 6,000 copies: one of the highest debuts for independent comics in May 2016.
Michael Allred is the artist behind such classic graphic novel works as Madman, Silver Surfer, Red Rocket 7, and iZombie. Michael's work on the eighth volume of the Fables graphic novel landed him on the New York Times best-seller list for graphic fiction for ten weeks in a row. He has been co-creator or substantial contributor to such seminal works as Sandman, Batman '66, X-Force, X-Statix, and iZombie. This last became a TV series on the CW in 2015 and was just renewed for a fourth season.
Laura Allred is an Eisner-winning colorist. She has colored most of Michael Allred's work for decades. Her award came in 2012 for her work coloring iZombie and Madman after two previous nominations, in 1998 for Red Rocket 7 and in 2000 for Madman and Happydale.
Neil Gaiman is a New York Times best-selling author whose work has won countless awards. He is world-renowned for his works, including Sandman, Coraline, American Gods, and Anansi Boys. Recently, Gaiman wrote the critically acclaimed TV miniseries Good Omens, based on the book he co-authored with Terry Pratchett.

Have a listen to the DAVID BOWIE track 'Conversation Piece' which has had a TONY VISCONTI remix.
The song appears on the upcoming Conversation Piece 5-CD Box Set, as well as the Space Oddity (2019 Mix) album, which are both released in November.
4th September 2019 London - Parlophone Records is proud to announce DAVID BOWIE CONVERSATION PIECE a five CD box set and digital equivalent tracking David's early development throughout 1968 and 1969, via his home demos, BBC radio sessions, studio recordings with guitarist John 'Hutch' Hutchinson and the experimental music and mime group, Feathers. The collection also celebrates the 50th anniversaries of the release of the 'Space Oddity' single and David's second album, David Bowie (aka Space Oddity).
DAVID BOWIE CONVERSATION PIECE contains twelve previously unreleased tracks/demos from the period as well as a brand new mix of the Space Oddity (aka David Bowie) album by long-time Bowie producer/collaborator Tony Visconti.
The new mix of the album now features the title track of the boxset 'Conversation Piece' restored to the tracklisting in its initially intended position, before it was originally dropped due to time constraints of vinyl.
Of the 2019 Space Oddity album mix Visconti says "It was so much fun to find hidden gems of musicianship with more time to mix the second time around, a guitar twiddle here, a trombone blast there, Marc Bolan's voice in a group choir and more detail in general that we overlooked all those years ago when the label gave us a week at the most to mix this album. And in the details you will find 22 year old David Bowie, who would soon take the world by storm."
The 120 page hardback book accompanying the box features exclusive memorabilia from the personal collection of David's former manager, the late Ken Pitt, as well as from the David Bowie Archive®, and includes photos by Ray Stevenson, Vernon Dewhurst, David Bebbington, Ken Pitt, Alec Byrne, Tony Visconti and Jojanneke Claasen.
The sleeve notes have been written for the release by Bowie experts Mark Adams, Tris Penna and Kevin Cann along with contributions from David's lifelong friend George Underwood, Tony Visconti, Vernon Dewhurst, Dana Gillespie and John 'Hutch' Hutchinson.
The 2019 mix of the SPACE ODDITY album will also be released separately and individually on CD, standard digital, 96/24 digital and vinyl. The various vinyl configurations will be randomly distributed worldwide with a mixture of hand-numbered labels; numbers 1 to 1969 on silver vinyl numbers and 1970 to 2019 on gold vinyl, with the remainder being black vinyl.

Rare 1973 photographs of DAVID BOWIE on stage in Brighton to go on show...
Newly acquired photographs of David Bowie performing at Brighton Dome will go on display at the venue for the first time, as part of Heritage Open Day on Saturday, 14th September.
The images were originally taken at Bowie's concert on 23rd May 1973 by an unknown photographer from the Evening Argus and Saler Photographic, a local picture agency which was based at 40 Preston Road.
Alex Epps, senior programming co-ordinator at Brighton Dome, said: "We are really excited to include these new additions to the archive as they really bring Brighton Dome's history to life. We'd love to know who the photographers were who took the shots but we've not been able to find out any more information. With our backstage tours and open days we hope visitors will enjoy learning about the past and sharing their own personal memories of the venue."
Heritage Open Day is the largest annual festival of history and culture in the country. This year, Brighton Dome will be joining the festival's 25th anniversary theme of People Power, revealing the stories of influential characters and public figures who have been connected to the venue's history from the past to the present day.
Heritage Open Day on Saturday 14th September, 10am-4pm. FREE admission.
Address: Brighton Dome, Church Street, Brighton BN1 1UD, England.
