DAVID BOWIE 'MOONAGE DAYDREAM' is the album companion to the critically acclaimed film by BRETT MORGEN.

The album features unheard versions, live tracks and mixes, created exclusively for the film.

The album is released digitally on 16th September, the 2-CD released 18th November and 3-LP released in 2023.

The companion album features songs from spanning Bowie's career and includes previously unheard material, unique mixes created for the film and this release along with dialogue from Bowie himself. The DAVID BOWIE compilation album BOWIE - LEGACY has now reached the grand total of 300 weeks in both the UK Official Album Chart Top 100 and the Irish Album Chart Top 100 (IRMA).

Legacy was released on 11th November 2016 and entered the UK Official Album Chart at #13 on 24th November 2016.

There, the album remained in both charts for a run of 46 weeks, until the 6th October 2017, when it dropped out of both the UK and Irish Top 100. Although, that very same week, the second Bowie box set 'A New Career In A New Town (1977-1982)' entered the charts at #19 in UK and #59 in Ireland.

Legacy returned the following week on 19th October 2017 at #68 in UK and #61 in Ireland, and has featured in both Top 100 Album Charts ever since.

DAVID BOWIE has been named Britain's most influential artist of the last 50 years for his ability to transcend music, film and fashion.

The Starman musician topped the Sky Arts list of 50 influential artists ahead of 12 Years A Slave Oscar-winning filmmaker Sir Steve McQueen and It's A Sin writer Russell T Davies, who revived Doctor Who in 2005.

Musicians including the Spice Girls, Sir Elton John, Stormzy and Boy George were among those featuring, alongside actors Michaela Coel and Steve Coogan.

Street artist Banksy also made an appearance in the list, as did filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott and fashion designers Alexander McQueen and Dame Vivienne Westwood.

Comedians Ricky Gervais and Victoria Wood also appear alongside artist Tracey Emin and Skin, lead singer of rock band Skunk Anansie, who was Glastonbury's first black headliner in 1999.

The list recognises renowned artists across the categories of visual arts, literary arts, performing arts, music, film and TV.

The judging panel, led by broadcaster and DJ Lauren Laverne, were challenged by TV channel Sky Arts to create the list and crowned Bowie for his ability to transcend a variety of mediums.

Laverne said: "I was honoured to be chosen to take part in this judging day for Sky Arts, as working with such a respected group of judges, I knew their conversations would be fascinating, and they were.

"The judges took so much time and care with their scoring to ensure the Top 50, Top 20 and Top 10 lists were truly the best of the best in terms of influence, and the final list are artists that are so deserving of their places.

"David Bowie coming in at number one was the cherry on top of a brilliant judging process, and it was great to be a part of it."

Bowie, one of the most influential and revered musicians of the 20th century, died with cancer on January 10th 2016, two days after his 69th birthday.

A unique portrait of the singer-songwriter has been made from more than 8,500 individually placed guitar plectrums - each featuring a cut-out shape to symbolise all the artistic disciplines Bowie influenced.

Artist Joe Black, who created the two-metre tall piece, said: "This portrait was created to celebrate David Bowie being named the most influential artist of the last 50 years.

"His visual representation had a huge impact across all of the arts worldwide.

"The idea was to use thousands of specially designed plectrums, with each design representing one of the five artistic areas of Bowie's creative life and influences - music, film, fashion, literature and art.

"Bowie was a maverick and a global icon who initiated a new Bowie era in popular culture."

Philip Edgar-Jones, director of Sky Arts, said: "As our number one artist, we wanted to honour David Bowie in a way that would feel fitting to the scale of his influence.

"The artwork that has been created by Joe Black honours the ways that Bowie's influence transcends genres, through guitar picks with cut-out designs of music, art, stage and screen."

On this day, 51 years ago, DAVID BOWIE recorded 'Life On Mars?' at Trident Studios in Soho, London.

David Bowie: "This song was so easy. Being young was easy. A really beautiful day in the park, sitting on the steps of the bandstand. 'Sailors bap-bap-bap-bap-baaa-bap.' An anomic (not a 'gnomic') heroine. Middle-class ecstasy.

"I took a walk to Beckenham High Street to catch a bus to Lewisham to buy shoes and shirts but couldn't get the riff out of my head. Jumped off two stops into the ride and more or less loped back to the house up on Southend Road.

"Workspace was a big empty room with a chaise longue; a bargain-price art nouveau screen ('William Morris,' so I told anyone who asked); a huge overflowing freestanding ashtray and a grand piano. Little else.

"I started working it out on the piano and had the whole lyric and melody finished by late afternoon. Nice.

"Rick Wakeman came over a couple of weeks later and embellished the piano part and guitarist Mick Ronson created one of his first and best string parts for this song which now has become something of a fixture in my live shows."

The original working lyrics written by David for Life On Mars? ended up with more than a few changes...

"It's been a helluva past 2 years and I'm glad to finally share a glimpse of what's coming ahead," said Cale.

"There was this period around mid-late '70s when David and I would run into each other in NY. There was plenty of talk about getting some work done but of course we'd end up running the streets, sometimes until we couldn't keep a thought in our heads, let alone actually get a song together!

"One night we managed to meet up for a benefit concert where I taught him a viola part so we could perform together. When I wrote 'Night Crawling', it was a reflective moment of particular times. That kind of NYC that held art in its grip, strong enough to keep it safe and dangerous enough to keep it interesting. I always figured we'd have another go at the two of us recording together, this time without the interference of being perpetually off our heads! The thing about creating music is the ability to divine a thought or feeling even when reality says it's a logical impossibility."

The 6th BECKENHAM ODDITY FESTIVAL takes place this month on Saturday 13th August at Croydon Road Recreation Ground in Beckenham.

Come and join us to celebrate the life and music of DAVID BOWIE.

Since 2016, the event has been fundraising for the Bowie Bandstand Restoration Project in Beckenham. David Bowie co-organised and performed on the bandstand at the Growth Summer Festival of 1969 and it is now a British Heritage Grade 2 listed building, thanks to this event and the organiser. As a result, this iconic bandstand will soon be restored to its former glory.

Organiser Wendy Faulkner: "I'm thrilled that the finishing line is finally in sight for the Bandstands Restoration as this will be a lasting legacy, to not only David Bowie, but for all the artists and people involved in the original Growth Summer Festival of 1969, and of course for their families.

The work on the bandstand will start in September this year and a launch party for the completion will take place in April 2023... and then We're Gonna Have A Party!"

For this year's event we will be raising money for three wonderful charities, Cabaret Vs Cancer, Terrence Higgins Trust and St Christopher's Hospice.
