The autobiography of DANA GILLESPIE 'WEREN'T BORN A MAN' is to be published on 18th January.
If you want an autographed copy NOW before the publication date, see below.
Dana Gillespie, the award-winning first lady of the Blues has enjoyed an incredible life and career. Now, she has chronicled her exploits, and as anyone who knows Dana would expect, it is intelligent, insightful, outrageous, and funny.
Detailing high points, low points and everything in-between, the book covers, amongst many other things, liaisons with DAVID BOWIE, Bob Dylan, Keith Moon, and the cream of 1960s rock royalty; Recording with Jimmy Page and Elton John; Performing as Mary Magdalene in the original London production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and as the Acid Queen in Tommy; Acting in films directed by Nicholas Roeg, Ken Russell and Mai Zetterling; Performing Shakespeare with Sir John Gielgud and Arthur Lowe; Topping the pop charts across Europe; Performing to an audience of one million people in India; And... oh yes... Being British junior water ski champion for 4 years!
Dana first met Bowie at the Marquee Club in 1964, and used to hang out with him in the sixties in Soho, at the studios of 'Ready Steady Go' and at Haddon Hall. She was signed to MainMan, who issued the now highly collectable 'Bowpromo' album, with Bowie's songs on one side and Dana's on the other. Bowie wrote 'Andy Warhol' for her, she accompanied him to Glastonbury in 1971, sang backing vocals on 'It Ain't Easy' on the Ziggy Stardust album and attended Ziggy's retirement dinner at the Café Royal.
Her book tells these stories and more; performing on the John Peel show with Bowie and the Spiders, her trip to the Château with Angie when Bowie and the band were recording 'Pinups', and her wild time living with Bowie and Angie in New York in 1974.
It also contains many previously unpublished Polaroid photos taken by Dana of Bowie, Angie and Zowie, together with Mick Ronson, Trevor Bolder, Cherry Vanilla, Tony Defries, Iggy Pop, Marc Bolan and members of the Diamond Dogs tour band.
To whet your appetite, here's 3 Polaroid photographs of David, taken by Dana.
Quotes:
"What a Thrill! DANA GILLESPIE in her element regaling, revealing, reliving all the stories, all the adventures, all the music". - Angie Bowie.
"You were there with David and Defries before any of us were around. It will be nice to hear about the early days when you and David first met." - Cherry Vanilla.
"When I met Dana half a century ago, we formed an instant bond of mutual adoration. She is one of the most honest, generous, unassuming and unaffected artists I have ever worked with." - Tony Defries.
"Having had the great pleasure of performing with Dana (in the musical sense of the word I hasten to add), I only wish I had played on more of her recordings. Introduced to me by her producer and mutual friend David Bowie, playing with her (again I mean musically so as to avoid any confusion) on the famous Trident Bechstein Grand was so enjoyable, and since then our paths have crossed more than a few times... including us both playing at the same blues festival in Ticino where her voice was truly amazing and better than ever. A real talent with everything she has ever done... I can't wait to read the book! A beautiful artistic lady in every sense of the word." - Rick Wakeman.
"Spending time with Dana was very special. She was magical, and helped me overcome my shyness. She knew my story before I did! All the memories I have of her are fond ones. So much laughter and kindness which helped me enormously. Those brilliant times will never be forgotten." - Elton John.
"Dana is fearless. She treads all over PC preciousness with some of the most funny and scandalous anecdotes I've heard of; a life outrageously lived. And if that wasn't enough she sings the blues with a sauciness that's chilli hot and ripe with erotic innuendo that can only come from a lady of full experience. A treasure, a legend, the Queen of cleavage and the last Empress of Bohemia." - Marc Almond.
"From David Bowie to Alf Garnett They say that variety is the spice of life, and Dana's life has seen more spice than most. What a life! What a woman! What a book!" - Julian Clary.
SPECIAL OFFER! There are 500 autographed copies of Dana's autobiography in hardback form available DIRECT from her publishers HAWKSMOOR PUBLISHING.
Copies have already been delivered to customers, and once they're gone, they're gone!

At the end of 1994, musician, producer and artist BRIAN ENO resolved to keep a diary. His plans to go to the cinema, theatre and galleries fell through quickly. What he did do - and write - however, was astonishing: ruminations on his collaborative work with artists including DAVID BOWIE, U2, James and Jah Wobble, interspersed with correspondence and essays dating back to 1978.
These 'appendices' covered topics from the generative and ambient music Eno pioneered to what he believed the role of an artist and their art to truly be, alongside razor-sharp commentary on his day-to-day tribulations and happenings around the world.
A fascinating, candid and intimate insight into one of the most influential creative artists of our time, A Year with Swollen Appendices is an essential classic, reissued for a new generation of readers.
This beautiful 25th anniversary hardback edition has been re-designed in A5, the same size as the diary that eventually became this book. It features two ribbons, pink paper delineating the appendices (matching the original hardback edition) and a two-tone cover on boards that pays homage to the original design.
Reviews: "A cranium tour of one of the most creative minds of our age." - Wired.
"Brian Eno's dual role in experimental and popular music is without precedent, and his influence on the music scene as a whole is difficult to overstate." - Pitchfork.
"Behind Eno stand John Cage, Marcel Duchamp, and Erik Satie." - New Yorker.
"As singular and as entertaining as anything the pop polymath has produced." - Observer, The 50 Greatest Music Books Ever.
Book Description: The diary and essays of Brian Eno republished twenty-five years on with a new introduction by the artist in a beautiful hardback edition.
About the Author: Brian Eno is a musician, producer, visual artist, and activist who first came to international prominence in the early '70s as a founding member of British band Roxy Music. His visionary production includes albums with Talking Heads, Devo, U2, Laurie Anderson and Coldplay, whilst his long list of collaborations include recordings with David Bowie, David Byrne, Grace Jones, Karl Hyde, James Blake among many. His visual experiments with light and video continue to parallel his musical career with exhibitions all over the globe.
To date he has released over 30 albums of his own music, exhibited extensively as far afield as the Venice Biennale and the sails of the Sydney Opera House and is a founder-member of the Long Now Foundation, a trustee of Client Earth, and Patron of Videre Est Credere. His most recent work includes a 23-track expanded edition of his seminal album, Apollo: Atmospheres & Soundtracks, the soundtrack to Top Boy's current 3rd season (he also scored the first two seasons) and his latest album with brother Roger, Mixing Colours released on Deutsche Grammophon earlier this year.
A Year with Swollen Appendices: Brian Eno's Diary - 25th Anniversary Edition hardback, containing 352-pages is published in the UK today (19th November).
You can purchase NOW!

Check out the official lyric video for DAVID BOWIE - The Man Who Sold The World [2020 Mix].
Released today is DAVID BOWIE METROBOLIST (aka THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD) 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION.
Originally titled Metrobolist, the album's name was changed at the last minute to The Man Who Sold The World - the original stereo master tapes were in fact labelled Metrobolist, with the title ultimately crossed out. This 2020 re-release of the album under its Metrobolist moniker has been remixed by original producer Tony Visconti, with the exception of the track 'After All' which Tony considered perfect as is, and is featured in its 2015 remaster incarnation.
The Metrobolist 50th anniversary artwork has been created by Mike Weller who was behind the originally intended album artwork which Mercury refused to release. The gatefold sleeve also features many images from the infamous Keith MacMillan Mr. Fish 'dress' shoot at Haddon Hall which would cause so much controversy when one of the shots was used on the cover of the The Man Who Sold The World album in the rest of the world in spring of 1971.
The original U.S. release of The Man Who Sold The World utilised some of the original Metrobolist design elements.
As with the Space Oddity 50th anniversary vinyl, as well as a 180g black vinyl edition, it will come in 2020 limited edition handwritten numbered copies on gold vinyl (# 1971 - 2020) and on white vinyl (# 1 - 1970) all randomly distributed.
DAVID BOWIE METROBOLIST tracklisting runs as follows:
The Width Of A Circle
All The Madmen
Black Country Rock
After All
Running Gun Blues
Saviour Machine
She Shook Me Cold
The Man Who Sold The World
The Supermen
You can purchase Metrobolist now on Special Edition CD and Limited Vinyl LP formats, also for streaming and download.

davidbowie.com have announced details of the forthcoming METROBOLIST album release...
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE 4/9/20:
Parlophone Records is proud to announce release details for METROBOLIST (aka THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD) 50th ANNIVERSARY EDITION to be released on 6th NOVEMBER, 2020.
This November sees the 50th Anniversary of the release of David Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World in North America. The rest of the world would have to wait until April 1971 to witness Bowie's landmark entry into the 1970s, marking the beginning of a collaboration with guitarist Mick Ronson that would last through classic works including Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane - as well as the first in a 10-year series of indispensable albums stretching through 1980's Scary Monsters...
Originally titled Metrobolist, the album's name was changed at the last minute to The Man Who Sold The World - the original stereo master tapes were in fact labelled Metrobolist, with the title ultimately crossed out. The 2020 re-release of the album under its Metrobolist moniker has been remixed by original producer Tony Visconti, with the exception of the track 'After All' which Tony considered perfect as is, and is featured in its 2015 remaster incarnation.
For the 50th anniversary the 1970 story of the gatefold sleeve can be told in full with unused 'dress' photos. As Mike Weller explains:
"There is a story concealed in the carpet-scattered playing cards, David has thrown a plain 52 card deck in the air as though "casting the runes" but in a significant break from 60s Tarot divinations such as I Ching etc he casts runes using a four-suit pack and switches man-dress, along with the Court Card of the Future from right hand to left, signifying a new decade and new cultural era."
David personally delivered the Metrobolist concept and his gatefold plan to the record company for production and now with this release, it can finally be seen much closer to its original concept. Bowie speaking in 2000 said of the sleeve imagery:
"Mick Weller devised this kind of very subversive looking cartoon and put in some quite personalised things. The building in the background on the cartoon in fact was the hospital where my half-brother had committed himself to. So for me, it had lots of personal resonance about it."
