• Ex-Thin Lizzy guitarist BRIAN ROBERTSON is interviewed by CLASSIC ROCK and talks about DAVID BOWIE - 'In 1979 Bowie was appearing on The Kenny Everett Show, and that involved him having to record a new version of Boys Keep Swinging. I was in the middle of a Lizzy tour, but I got the call from [record producer] Tony Visconti asking if I could play the guitar solo, and I wasn't going to miss that. I'd been a big Bowie and Mick Ronson fan since I was a kid. Tony sent me a cassette of the original Boys Keep Swinging and it had this crazy lead guitar stuff by Adrian Belew, all these weird noises. I thought, "F**k! I can't do that." But I went down to Good Earth studios with a Strat and a bottle of Courvoisier. David and Tony were sat behind the mixing desk. I was just getting my sound when David shouted: "Okay, done!" I was like: "But I haven't actually started yet..."' - you can read the whole article [HERE]...

Next up is GEORGE MURRAY.
Bernd's main man, his main target at the convention: George Murray. A quiet and refined man, very slim and tall. Before the interview, he first applied cream to his face. 'With or without a hat?', "With please, George".
Although Bernd was looking forward to meeting him, he meant the most to him, I wasn't nervous about him. When I asked him about Adrian Belew towards the end, he lost his cool.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: DAVID BOWIE WORLD FAN CONVENTION 2025 - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY.
Due to a combination of issues surrounding public safety, venue availability, escalating delivery costs, and the unavailability of key personnel, we have made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel The David Bowie World Fan Convention 2025 (6-8 June, Liverpool). These unforeseen circumstances have made it impossible for us to present the event as planned. As a team, we are committed to establishing a new and exciting direction for fans. Speakers and organisers were both excited, but ultimately we are not able to deliver this in 2025 for the reasons we have highlighted.
We are deeply sorry for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause. All ticket-holders will receive refunds at the original point of purchase within 30 days. If you have any further questions, please contact us at or via direct message.
Sending love to all the fan community - stay safe, and we hope to see you soon.
Thank you for your understanding.

Update on COLLABORATION: DAVID BOWIE 1991-2007 by FRANK OCKENFELS 3.
This book was scheduled to be published on 9th September.
Frank says the publishers of this book have financial problems and they cancelled the project a week before printing.
Since they don't know when or if ever it would happen they gave the book back to the author and he is in talks with a new publisher.
More details when a date is finalised with a new publisher.

Next up is YVONNE TAYLOR.
Eight hours of travelling and bad weather didn't stop Yvonne from seeing Bowie in Glasgow. On her boyfriend's shoulders!
There are three gigs for THE SOUND AND VISION OF DAVID BOWIE taking place on 9th, 10th 11th January at The Cutting Room in New York City.

Next up is KEANAN DUFFTY.
Unfortunately, they didn't do an interview in Liverpool. He saw Keanan there, he saw Bernd, but neither of them knew who the other was. Back home he found out who he was and wrote to him saying how sorry he was that he hadn't interviewed him there. Keanan suggested they do the interview via Zoom. Will the idea work? Never mind, it's much more important what Keanan has to say!
Over on the MAINMAN website: Podcast episode #67 is now available...
You can listen to the podcast now - in this episode TONY DEFRIES continues his recollections of 'The Year of The Diamond Dogs' with David Bowie in 1974.
"Diamond Dogs was me using everything I had learned since Hunky Dory to create a world where my imagination was allowed to flow completely freely, in search of a way to interpret George Orwell's dystopian vision and William S Burroughs's unique language" - David Bowie, 2001.
The MainMan group of companies was a first of its kind rights management organisation formed by entrepreneur and impresario Tony Defries in 1972, that supported and helped to develop the careers of various artistes including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Mick Ronson, Mott The Hoople, Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs, Dana Gillespie, Amanda Lear, Wayne/Jayne County, John Cougar Mellencamp and many others.

V&A East Storehouse's DAVID BOWIE CENTRE will open on 13th September 2025 - with a series of rotating displays, installations, guest-curated content and the opportunity to book to see anything from The David Bowie Archive.
Opening on 13 September 2025, V&A East Storehouse's free to access David Bowie Centre will be the new home of David Bowie's Archive, recently acquired by the V&A through the generosity of the David Bowie Estate, the Blavatnik Family Foundation and Warner Music Group. For the first time, the archive of 90,000+ items, which traces Bowie's creative processes as a musical innovator, cultural icon, and advocate for self-expression and reinvention, will be accessible to everyone. Highlights include stage costumes such as Bowie's breakthrough Ziggy Stardust ensembles designed by Freddie Burretti (1972), lyrics for songs including Fame (1975), "Heroes" (1977) and Ashes To Ashes (1980), as well as examples of the 'cut up' method of writing introduced to Bowie by the writer William Burroughs.
Split into three separate zones, The David Bowie Centre will have a mix of small, curated displays and audio-visual installations. There will also be quieter study areas, where visitors can delve into all aspects of Bowie's archive on their own. From Bowie's iconic costume to musical instruments, make-up charts, stage models, Oblique Strategies card decks, personal notes, writings, lyrics and music, sketches, designs and more, at V&A East Storehouse, visitors can get closer to David Bowie than ever before.
To develop the inaugural David Bowie Centre displays, the curatorial team consulted with 18-25-year-olds from the four Olympic Boroughs of Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest through London Legacy Development Corporation and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park's Elevate Youth Voice. The small displays spotlight the wide range of objects within the archive and Bowie's multi-dimensional creative approach, including his unrealised projects, collaborations, and influences. They also reveal the stories behind the creation of some of Bowie's iconic albums and personas from Aladdin Sane to The Thin White Duke, and his significant influence on creatives from Lana del Rey to Lil Nas X and Issey Miyake. A series of rotating guest curators - including Bowie's collaborators, experts, contemporary creatives, and young people from V&A East's Youth Collective - will also be invited to share their insights and perspectives on the archive.
You can read the latest press release from the V&A East Storehouse HERE.

Next up is CARL IVAN DELINGSRUD.
When Carl Ivan talks, it is a physical experience. This huge man has a VERY deep voice that his microphone could only begin to capture.
Bernd's favourite part of his narration is: Oslo, 1978, Carl Ivan is waiting with the fans outside the hall to get in while the band can be heard from inside. He thinks, no, that's not the band, it sounds so good, they're playing a record!
• On this day, 21 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed the first of two gigs at Palais Omnisports, Bercy, Paris, France during his A Reality World Tour in 2003...
• On this day, 22 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed at the Beacon Theatre, Broadway, New York, USA during his Heathen Tour in 2002. David named this last leg 'The New York Marathon Tour', as they were playing in each of New York City's five boroughs. He said: "I could get home from all the gigs on roller skates."...
• On this day, 23 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed at the 'Concert for New York City' Benefit show at Madison Square Garden, New York City in 2001. David performed two songs, Paul Simon's 'America' and his own anthemic classic "Heroes"...
• On this day, 28 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed the second of two shows for The Bridge School Benefit Concert at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, Mountain View, California, USA. This acoustic and bottle caps show for the Neil Young Charity saw David perform, alongside Reeves Gabrels and Gail Ann Dorsey in 1996...
• On this day, 41 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed the first of three shows at the Budokan Arena in Tokyo, Japan during his Serious Moonlight Tour '83...
• On this day, 50 years ago, DAVID BOWIE performed at the Michigan Palace in Detroit, USA during his 'Soul/Philly Dogs' Tour in 1974...
• On this day, 51 years ago, saw the final day of filming by NBC TV of The Midnight Special. DAVID BOWIE's 'The 1980 Floor Show' was filmed over three days at The Marquee, in Soho, London in 1973...
• On this day, 52 years ago, DAVID BOWIE and The Spiders From Mars played the first of two gigs at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA, USA in 1972.
This first show was broadcast live on a local FM radio station and also recorded by RCA Records for a planned Ziggy Stardust live double album. The shows at Boston and Santa Monica were also recorded and the artwork created by George Underwood.
The live FM radio broadcast introduced by Steve Martin went as follows: "Steve Martin here, backstage at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. It's a cool night in Los Angeles, and as you may know or not know, the Santa Monica Civic is about a hundred yards from the beach so we have a cool breeze blowing off the ocean through the stage at our backs. The auditorium is packed, as a matter of fact, for the first David Bowie concert in the Los Angeles area. There will be one more tomorrow night, this is the concert tonight which will be recorded by RCA for the next David Bowie album and we expect to hear some new material by this British superstar. David and his group, the Spiders From Mars will enter from the other side of the stage. The auditorium is completely blacked out except for flashing strobe lights. Now the entrance music will be the Ode, or should I say the Ode To Joy which is featured in the movie A Clockwork Orange and the house lights are starting to dim... here's David Bowie." - [More details]...
• On this day, 56 years ago, TURQUOISE performed at The Country Club, Haverstock Hill, Hampstead, London NW3. The short-lived mixed-media trio Turquoise were: DAVID BOWIE, Hermione Farthingale and Tony Hill. Also appearing at this 1968 Time Out/Free Bank Benefit gig were: Third Ear Band, Doris Henderson, George Smith and Mike Vernon, Pegasus Blues, Mimi and Mouse, Simon Stable and Pete Drummond on Plastic Dream Machine, plus others.
David had placed an advertisement in the International Times way back in June. It stated 'David Bowie needs acoustic guitarist singing/speaking for exciting project, must be alive'. The name 'Turquoise' lasted for only a small number of appearances before Tony Hill's final performance. Tony left to join 'High Tide', a group that David was later to support. His replacement was ex-Buzz member John 'Hutch' Hutchinson. Shortly after the name was changed to FEATHERS...
Check out the nineteenth of twenty-three interviews filmed at The David Bowie World Fan Convention 2024 by BERND PICK.
Next up is ALAN YENTOB.
The legendary Alan Yentob, CBE. Bernd was immediately intimidated by his super serious looks! Then when he approached him in the corridor to ask for an interview, his answer did not ease his fear. 'Yes, we can do that, but my train leaves in 30 minutes'.
Bernd's fearfulness was all nonsense of course; as soon as Alan spoke, the sun came out! It's just a shame that due to lack of time, he wasn't able to ask more questions.
• On this day, 51 years ago, DAVID BOWIE released his Pin Ups album in 1973, featuring cover versions of some of his favourite songs from the '64-'67 period London club scene.
One of his original ideas for this album was to reinforce the evocation of times past by also linking in his own song 'The London Boys'...
DB: "Probably half a verse will be used between songs. It will be a newly recorded version. That dates from the first Deram album. It's about a young boy who comes up to London, gets pilled out of his head, all those things.
"I used to do that - get dressed up, go up to town on Friday night, see what was going on, stay for the night."
• Happy Birthday wishes to MARK PLATI...
Check out the eighteenth of twenty-three interviews filmed at The David Bowie World Fan Convention 2024 by BERND PICK.
Next up is RIAS BAARDA.
Rias is a member of the David Bowie Dutch tribute band Starman.
The DAVID BOWIE original passport photograph with 1979 signature sold at auction last week in Berlin.
Lot 1215 in the BASSENGE AUKTIONEN 'Valuable Books, Decorative Prints and Autographs' 3-day sale on 9th October reached the hammer price.
The lot was for two pieces of memorabilia, namely David Bowie and filmmaker/actor Rainer Werner Fassbinder.
The photograph and signature had estimate of 2,000 Euros (£1,532 GBP) in the auction, along with an after-sales price of 1,600 euros (USD 1,720) on their website if it didn't reach a sale. Luckily it passed the hammer price.
Their lot description read:
Music and theatre: Bowie and Fassbinder in West Berlin 1979.
Bowie, David. Autograph with mounted original passport photo. Single sheet from a private autograph album. 16 x 13.5 cm. West Berlin 1979.
Autograph sheet from the album of the then 16-year-old Jennifer, whose mother worked in the passport office of the West Berlin consulate and Bowie was able to steal one of his passport photos that he had submitted for the application.
"For Jennifer, with all my love Bowie 79."
In 1979, Bowie (1947-2016) was already living in Switzerland in the small town of Blonay, near Montreux on Lake Geneva, where he recorded the album Lodger with Brian Eno in the Mountain Studio, the so-called third Berlin album.
Bowie famously spent the years 1976 to 1978 in West Berlin, where he lived in a seven-room apartment in an old building in Schöneberg at Hauptstrasse 155 and tried to get over his heroin addiction. Iggy Pop was his neighbour during these years.
During this time he produced the first two albums of the legendary Berlin Trilogy in the famous Hansa Studios, including the single "Heroes", his most famous song, in which he tells the story of a couple kissing at the Berlin Wall and being shot at by border guards. On the back of the album page is the handwritten autograph of the no less legendary Munich filmmaker and actor Rainer Werner Fassbinder (1945-1982), dated March 9, 1979, also with his original passport photo. - Browned in the fold.
Check out the seventeenth of twenty-three interviews filmed at The David Bowie World Fan Convention 2024 by BERND PICK.
Next up is AVA CHERRY.
Bernd says: "This is the only interview that ends with the words 'I love you!'. In German!
Make sure you keep watching after the credits roll, Ava has an announcement.
Sunday, 1st December is the rescheduled date for the performance of "HEROES" and LOW SYMPHONIES by PHILIP GLASS - from the music of DAVID BOWIE and BRIAN ENO, performed by The George Ellis Orchestra.
Taking place at Hamer Hall Arts Centre, Fairfax Studio, 100 St Kilda Road, Southbank, Melbourne, VIC 3004, Australia.

• On this day, 34 years ago, DAVID BOWIE and IMAN had their first ever date in Los Angeles, USA in 1990. The blind-date was set up by their mutual friend and hairdresser Teddy Antolin...
• On this day, 47 years ago, DAVID BOWIE released his "Heroes" album. Recorded at Hansa Tonstudio, Berlin in July and August of 1977, this is the only true album of the so-called "Berlin Trilogy" - (Low was predominantly recorded in France and Lodger in Montreux, Switzerland and NYC). Produced by Tony Visconti and David Bowie, the album also featured: Carlos Alomar, Dennis Davis, George Murray, Brian Eno, Robert Fripp and Antonia Maass.
RCA marketed the album with the blurbs: "Tomorrow belongs to those who can hear it coming" and "There's Old Wave. There's New Wave. And there's David Bowie..." It reached number #3 in the UK and stayed in the charts for a total of 26 weeks. Both the NME and Melody Maker named it as their 'Album of the Year'. Surely, the highest praise came from JOHN LENNON who stated in a 1980 interview - whilst recording his 'Double Fantasy' album - that his ambition was to "do something as good as "Heroes"."
Published next month is DAVID BOWIE: THE COLLECTOR by NICK SMART.
This paperback containing 244-pages is to be published on Thursday 21st November.
If it's true that most musicians who worked with Bowie did their best work with him, is it also the case that Bowie's work benefited enormously from the ideas and creativity of the people he surrounded himself with? As he himself said, 'It's not what you steal, it's how you use it!'
A study of the people from whom Bowie borrowed from is long overdue. Bowie's own genius is beyond question, but Nick Smart teases out the elements on which Bowie built his success. His profound sense of artifice, his ability to tap into the zeitgeist of his times and his gift for gathering ideas and influences from a variety of sources and rearranging them to produce not only new perspectives but also brand-new ideas made him the artist he became. Having interviewed dozens of David Bowie's friends and collaborators as joint editor of David Bowie Glamour magazine, Nick finds himself with an enviable perspective about what - and who - made the David Bowie that is celebrated worldwide today. He describes the influences that Bowie picked up on and examines the creative ideas drawn from those he surrounded himself with to produce a unique portrait of a unique star and the myriad ideas that inspired him.
About the Author: Nick Smart is joint editor and designer of the popular fanzine, David Bowie Glamour. He has been a fan of David Bowie since 1979 and has interviewed and written articles on many of Bowie's collaborators. He jointly curated the David Bowie World Fan Convention in Liverpool 2022 and New York 2023 and through his fanzine and convention has created a substantial following of Bowie fans on social media.
You can pre-order NOW! and receive a discount.
Update: David Bowie The Collector Book Launch on 27th November. Nick will be in conversation with Chris Badley. Tickets cost £6 and include a glass of wine or a soft drink and £2 off the book. Presented by bookhaus at Unit 4, Rope Walk, Hope Quay, Bristol BS1 6ZJ, England at 18.00 - More details.

Next up is NICOLA ROSSI.
Did Nicola come to promote her book Rockstar Ending? No, that's not why she came, but she did anyway. She's a charming fan who, like many others, was spurred on by Bowie to do something creative.
Released now is the DAVID BOWIE 'hours...' Remix EP which is available via the digital platform of your choosing.
Personally, I USE THIS one, as you simply just need to sign in to stream, or you if you prefer you can purchase MP3 versions.

Sad news to hear that DENIS 'TEA-CUP' TAYLOR lead guitarist of The Lower Third has sadly passed away.
Denis died suddenly at his home in Margate last week, aged eighty-four years old.
The Lower Third formed in Margate, Kent in 1963, they were originally known as 'Oliver Twist And The Lower Third'. The original line-up consisted of Denis Taylor (lead guitar), Les Mighall (drums) and Graham Rivens (bass guitar). David joined the band in April 1965.
Sending sincere condolences to all his family and friends.
Denis Taylor - rest in peace - (6th July 1940 - October 2024).
Check out the fourteenth of twenty-three interviews filmed at The David Bowie World Fan Convention 2024 by BERND PICK.
Next up is TOM KRISTENSEN.
Tom has written a book about David Bowie in Norway.
On this day, 55 years ago, DAVID BOWIE appeared for the first time on Top Of The Pops performing 'Space Oddity' in 1969.
Hosted by Pete Murray, Bowie had performed the song in Studio G, which was separate from the main studio audience. This was pre-recorded on 2nd October.
The line-up for this episode was as follows:
(#1) TOTP Orchestra - Je T'Aime... Moi Non Plus (and charts)
(#NE) Esther Ofarim - Saturday Night At The World
(#11) Lou Christie - I'm Gonna Make You Mine
(#13) David Bowie - Space Oddity
(#16) The Hollies - He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother
(#2) Bobbie Gentry - I'll Never Fall In Love Again (film)
(#20) The Temptations - Cloud Nine (crowd dancing) (and credits)
The following week (16th) there was a repeat Space Oddity showing introduced by Alan Freeman, as the song had climbed from #13 to #8.
Must read! The incredible but harrowing story about SEAN MAYES former member of Fumble, who passed away in July 1995, aged 50.
Fumble supported several Ziggy shows on tour in 1972 and 1973, and then later Sean joined the DAVID BOWIE band during his 1978 world tour on piano, followed by appearing on Bowie's 'Stage' and 'Lodger' albums.
Sean also wrote the book Life on Tour with David Bowie, which was published in 1999, four years after his death.
Onto the mind-boggling story which starts in 1972, when his younger brother Oscar disappeared.
Twenty-three years later, on 9th February 1995, a dying Sean made a secret confession to the police.
Author Simon Farquhar, revisits several forgotten murder cases for his new book, A Deafening Silence published next month on 14th November.
In the meantime, you can the read the outline story over on the mirror.co.uk website.
Check out the thirteenth of twenty-three interviews filmed at The David Bowie World Fan Convention 2024 by BERND PICK.
Next up is SPIZZ from Spizzenergi, the English punk/new wave band formed in the late 1970s. The band changed its name every year, subsequent names including Athletico Spizz 80, Spizzoil and the Spizzles.
Spizz has interesting things to say, right at the beginning it's about Mick Ronson, his story continues with Angie Bowie, David Bowie, Iman, Kevin Cann and finally ends with Tony Visconti.
Here's an update on PLACEBO new documentary film directed by BAFTA winner Oscar Sansom.
Check out an interview in the NME talking about 'Placebo: This Search For Meaning', which features rare and unseen footage following the band's relationship with David Bowie.
Key to the film is the plentiful footage of the band's interactions with Bowie, who championed the band in the late-90s, toured with them, and appeared on their 1999 single 'Without You I'm Nothing'.
"It just shows you what a fantastic person David Bowie was," Molko said of the footage, "because he always spoke to you on your level. It wasn't like you're dealing with somebody on a gilded balcony in an ivory tower. You're dealing with somebody who really, really was very interested in you and was extremely genuine."
From NME.
